Panicking slightly, “I uh I don’t mean like I enjoy when it happens just that there is never not something to do on a hospital ship.. Like that type of chaos.. not.. not probably what you are thinking” Geth looked down and took a shaky breath before looking back towards the woman. “My siblings and I ended up being abandoned by my parents at a young age and ended up living on the streets for a while. Hades here helps me deal with the PTSD of that. I wasn’t able to go through counseling for it because that would’ve caused me to be away from my siblings and we would’ve been separated.” Taking another breath Geth smiled once more. “So I ended up with Hades as a way to be able to keep working provide for my family, thankfully my siblings are old enough to be home alone and we have an apartment…” He trailed off a bit. “I know it is not the best situation nor does it give much confidence to anyone else that I have a service dog, but I am able to work just as anyone else is.”

Ana’s expression slowly changed from detached professional interest to genuine intrigue as she listened to Gethmire detail his experience. She hadn’t attended to much of the research regarding the use of service animals in such situations; perhaps there was a hole there that she could fill with research into this lieutenant’s particular situation. Her teeth caught her lip between them as she gnawed softly on it, contemplating literature reviews and interventional studies for a brief moment before returning her focus to the task at hand. “It sounds as though you have a close bond with your siblings, yet you chose to pursue a career in Starfleet, which would take you away from them. How do you rationalize that choice?” While her question was provoking, the tone of her voice made it clear that she was not malicious, simply direct.

“I do, we uh..” Geth trailed off for a moment and Hades whined a bit standing up and placing his head in the younger mans lap. Shaking himself out of it a bit Geth smiled once more. “We ended up talking as a family if this would be the right choice. We decided that they were old enough to be able to take care of themselves in school and food, so I pursued StarFleet as a way to make income for us all. I uh my pay goes straight to them and I have a small bit I keep. But it helps that I have had a general interest in getting off of earth and exploring the Galaxy..It is a.. win win situation as one would call it.” Petting Hades, Geth took a breath in. “I am trying to do what is best for my siblings..It is not easy but we make due”

“And if something should happen to you? How do you handle that risk?” Ana immediately fired at the officer as he completed answering her previous question. Directness was certainly an attribute of hers.

“Honestly we prepped for what we could before I left, there are documents signed giving my younger sibling, the middle child, guardian ship over the youngest and I was able to make some contact with friends in our apartment building that woukd step up as needed” Geth looked right at the woman with a small smile, though a determined face.
