Tressex left the CSO’s office and began furiously building a containment vessel for the specimens in the relay. While he was no biologist, he did have the idea that if the mother subject and her children found that particular area of the ship suitable, he would have to replicate that environment as closely as possible. He first scanned the area and got current temperature, humidity, and lighting parameters. The comfort of the creature was of paramount importance, and Tressex got the impression from T’Pris that the mother was under some kind of duress. Once the container was done, Tressex applied a filter on the outside of the glass to keep the light as close to the inside of the relay as possible. The whole construction took approximately half and hour. He then coordinated with the Transporter room to lock onto the unknown life forms in the relay and beam them directly to the container.

As soon as it was complete, Tressex tapped his commbadge. =/\= Tressex to T’Pris. Isolation container is prepped and ready. I have duplicated the temperature, humidity, and lighting of the area you are in. Commencing beam out… now. =/\= and he sent the signal to the transporter operator. The familiar shimmer of the transporter working around the mother and the offspring appeared, intensified, and they were gone from the relay; appearing inside the closed container. Tressex immediately began running scans and trying to identify the life form. As he did so, he contacted the Transporter Room. =/\= Tressex to Transporter. Please send me a copy of the transporter buffer olg from the subject. Thank you very much. =/\=

The creature was definitely a Gastropod-like being, but with the more developed brain and the fact that T’Pris had sensed emotion from it, it was clearly sentient. Its vitals were rather low right now, but matched a bradymetabolism. Given the apparent state of duress, it seemed like the mother had been forced to drop her metabolism in order to survive. Most likely she hadn’t been able to find a food source, but had managed to keep herself going at least through the warmth found in the relays.

Tressex looked at the being and checked the scans as they showed the results. He then began to check and see if there was any indication of vocal capabilities, larynx and such, developed inside their new acquaintance.

OOC: GM, is there any such physiology?
OOC: GM is LOA until the weekend, she’s just getting home today:)

Krys

There was no obvious mouth or vocal structures that indicated vocal speech capabilities.

Shortly after, the red alert came on and signalled an intruder alert.

Willow walked in from engineering and looked around. Approaching the duo as they examined the creature she looked at it and felt…something like a surge of pity. “Is that it?” She enquired. “Have we any idea where it came from…or how it got here?”

Willow Taylor
CO

“No, Ma’am. Not yet. But we are running full scans of all of them.” Tressex replied.

Arun had followed the Captain silently and now stood next to her, looking at the creature. “Dispair, fear, anger. Anisha and Melaia felt it first, however that was very close to Melaia’s quarters on deck 3. I can attempt to make telepathic contact and establish communication.” he offered her.

  • Lt. Cmdr. Onuru

Willow considered her chief of staff, she glanced at the scientists. “Can you suggest a better method of establishing communication with this…” She felt slightly annoyed at having no reference to it other than creature. “Life form?”

T’Pris entered the lab in time to hear the last few comments and reported.”The creature was apparently ingesting plasma from our relays so that appears to be what it was looking for. More then likely to feed its offspring as well. As for communication, Captain, it does not have the organs to verbally communicate and only has a rudimentary intelligence. Mostly natural instinct. I could readily sense its desire for food and fear telepathically. I suppose an attempt could be made to try to reach it deeper telepathically to see if there is more then that. I could attempt a mind meld with it now that it is contained. Do we have any idea where this creature may have come from?”

T’Pris Psychobiologist

Arun raised an eye at T’Pris. “Hello.” he greeted her cordially. “I’m not Vulcan but I venture to say that my brand of telepathy is less risky than a full-on mind melt.” he said matter-of-factly.

  • Arun Onuru, Chief of Staff

“I have had full psi training as well, so I do have more then the typical Vulcan training with mental shields. But it is logical to consider which form of telepathy would be more effective. ” T’Pris said not in argument with the Chief of Staff but just so her own abilities were known.

T’Pris Psychobiologist

“I would suggest we wait a few moments. We need to complete a tox-screen and ensure that it carries no communicable pathogens before we initiate any kind of contact, shouldn’t be too much longer.” Tressex said, his furry brow wrinkled in concentration.
