USS Ogawa

New beginings

Posted by Ensign M’Nalie Eshenti (Engineer) in New beginings
M’Nalie awoke in a strange medbay to strange doctors and strange nurses. The last thing she remembered was the sounds of her ship almost ripping itself apart as they passed through the barrior. She had grabbed Woods to keep him safe. They had been thrown when gravity failed. They had hit a bulkhead hard. She had almost managed to get her feet under her but the angle was off.. they must of repaired the damage as her leg felt fine. She sat up. And nearly slid off the biobed. Her leg wasn’t fine. IT wasn’t there at all. Nothing but a stump remained. Neatly closed up by protoplaser. Her Clan were warriors in a sence that other species of the Federation didn’t usually understand. It was more than a job, a culture or a way of life. It was who you were. She settled back onto the biobed wanting to die. Knowing she couldn’t allow herself to die and not even hearing anything being said to her by the nurses who had rushed over when she sat up. She closed her eyes and it felt like her spirit floated free. Not that she went anywhere in reality. It was more of a disconnect from reality she didn’t want to accept. She fell back asleep. Or was Catatonic a better word? A soul to tired to face the world right now.

They arrived źt the Starbzse just as the doctors were ready to release M’Nalie from Medical care. She moved about using antigrav belt for now. She had hardly had a moments peace as one doctor after another had explained her options to her. She had for the most part grunted at them to aknowledge she’d hezred them and said nothing till they left when things got akward. The came ouncilors fared no better. She wasn’t in a mood to talk and she wasn’t going to talk. Her possesions were crated up and in the temporary quarters assigned to her at the base. Her Species, more so her own subspecies than the larger Caitan population had a very negative view of people crippled. It didn’t really matter how they became crippled. To her it mean failure of the worst sort. Had they been fighting she could of accepted bioreplacement, or cybernetics. But to rub salt in her wounds now that the crisis was over she could think of at least a dozen things that might of mitigated damage to the ship. Hindsight is always a bitter drink she thought. She wrote her after action report, added her ideas on how it could of been dealt with better and took personal responcability for having failed to come up with them in the moment. Submitted it to Her CE, Starfleet command , and since she was between ships right now to the Starbase’s dept of Engineering. She then put in a request for a travel voucher so she could return to Cait till after she gave birth. So great was her shame at her failure she booked the earliest transport to avoid meeting any of the Ogawa’s crew who in her eyes she had let down..
