Achilleas started describing what could be seen through the telescope, “This is a view of the Sol system or where Earth is located from the viewpoint of the Proxima colony in Alpha Centauri. Naturally you can’t really see Earth from this many light years away, but you can see the orange star that is Sol. Alpha Centauri is the nearest star to Sol, so this is the best location to look back. Ironic maybe how in my desire to leave Earth and explore the unknown that I would want to look back to Earth right? I just don’t want to forget where I come from in the exciting and hectic adventure of life.”

Ana spent several moments carefully looking through the telescope at the various points of interest that Petrakos had mentioned. As he finished his tour of the night sky, she carefully stepped back and raised an eyebrow at him as he offered up what she assumed to be a rhetorical question. She wondered briefly if he had any idea what position she held on the ship; the Ogawa was fairly small, so it was likely that he did and perhaps that was why he was offering up such emotional self-evaluation. Out of habit, she repeated back his final words to him: “exciting and hectic adventure of life?”

Achilleas smiled ruefully, “‘Visit the stars and explore the galaxy! Join Starfleet!’ That wasn’t the main reason I joined up but I guess I yearn for excitement. The unknown!”

His excitement peaked and he paused, suddenly embarrassed by his outburst, “Sorry. This is my first time off Earth and it’s hard to contain my expectations. I’ve always dreamed of seeing something no one else ever has.”

Thinking of something, he suddenly looked aghast, “Oh shoot, I can’t believe I got so carried away I forgot to introduce myself! I’m Achilleas Petrakos.”

Ana’s inky black eyes widened as Petrakos’ excitement overwhelmed her slightly. The only other physical evidence of her discomfort was her lips tightening against each other, pressing together forcibly. Fortunately, she was saved from trying to come up with a response to his immature thrill by the introduction. The tightness in her lips loosened slightly as she forced a friendly smile. “Anastasia Darren,” she responded, in kind.

Achilleas smiled in response, “Good to meet you Anastasia. Sorry for hijacking your holodeck session like this. You’re the third person I’ve met besides the Captain and another science officer. I’m glad everyone seems to be so nice. Wasn’t sure what to expect. Have you been aboard very long?”
