After taking some time to ring her self up to speed and settle in her own office, Mariah decided to message Ana about the completion of Darren’s psychological evaluation. Of course, it would be up to Darren to tell her when it would be good to meet, but Grayson had to admit she was curious about the other woman after their first meeting, and she also wanted to let Darren know she hadn’t forgotten the request. She sent the message, setting it as a moderate priority and returned to reviewing the crew’s profiles, making note of those in need of updated evaluations.

Within a few moments, the chime to Grayson’s office alerted her to the presence of someone requesting entrance.

Darren, CoP

“Come in,” Mariah called out, turning her chair toward the doors that hissed open, genuinely surprised to see her visitor. “Hello. I see you’re not wasting any time,” she added with a grin. “I hope I didn’t take you away from something important.”

“I had a few moments,” Ana responded, slightly awkwardly. “My shift ends in approximately 30 minutes and I didn’t have any appointments or notes to complete.” She had taken a step through the open door as she spoke, but now stood just inside the entrance to Grayson’s office, shifting her weight minutely side to side.

Darren, CoP

“Oh wow,” Mariah replied. “My timing was perfect then.” She gestured for Ana to take a seat anywhere she liked, taking note she still seemed nervous. Evaluations like this could do that to some people, Grayson knew, but she couldn’t help but wonder if there was more to it for Ana. Darren had seemed uneasy the moment they met, which surprised her given Darren’s position, but it was important to Mariah the other woman not feel judged, both now and in the future. They were a team after all. “May I get you something to eat or drink while we chat?”
