M’Nalie had been repairing a replicator in the lounge when it felt like she was bitten as she reached into the machine. She had discovered on retracting her hand paw from the machine that she had been struck by some manner of barbed quill. A tricorder scan had identified it as from a cactus. How that got on the ship let alone into a replicator was nothing she could comprehend. It might be a joke or hazing ritual but she was far from amused.
She entered Primary sick bay holding the stricken hand paw. “Do we have a doctor who isn’t certifiable or part of prisoner reform initiative to treat this?” She fairly snarled at the room then looked contrite as the room was full of people she mostly didn’t recognise. She blinked at the various people then heard a squeel of delight from behind her, she recognised the squeel as coming from one Misui Fujiyama age 3. Who M’Nalie had previously met when repairing ensign Fujiyamas fresher which had malfunctioned. Mitsui like most toddlers treated M’Nalie like a giant stuffed toy that had come to life. The toddler grabbed onto M’Nalies injured handpaw and squeeled again, “UP! Up!” , Misui squeeled imperiously. Her Father looking embarrassed chased the child who was waiting to have a marble removed from her nose where it was lodged firmly.
M’Nalie winced in pain but lifted the child as ordered to pertch her on a shoulder wher the child clung pulling fur and an ear for a grip. M’Nalie changed handpaws supporting the child and kneeled so her Father could coax her off eventually.

Pilar came over “Mr. Fujiyama, Estelle will take care of Mitsui.” She said smiling at the child “Ensign. It looks like you have a friend.” She said gently “However, it also looks like you have injured your paw.” She said as she came over “Mitsui, I need to look at M’Nalie’s paw. Can you go with Miss Estelle and your daddy?” Pilar asked the small child.

M’Nalie purred out, “Children seem to like big furry things. “, as the child was coaxed from her by nurse and father alike. Ne Fujiyama made a polite bow and carried Misui after nurse Esrelle. Misui waved and M’Nalei returned the bow and then waved to the happy squeeling toddler with a marble in her nose. Showing the handpaw to Pillar she sighed, “the needle if deep and has barbs. How it got in the replicator I was repairing I do not know. “, and she stayed kneeling so that she didn’t overtop the nurse too severly.
