Gordon dodged yet another medical crewman, or was it an officer? He hadn’t been paying attention, his eyes darted from the PaDD in his hands to the door numbers. He knew he was near his destination purely from the number of bustling medical staff and he thought he was on the right deck, his inadvertent exit onto the bridge from the turbo lift told him that. After a few more turns he made it to a large pair of doors which he presumed to be the main sickbay, with a sigh of relief he stepped inside and was almost crushed underfoot by a determined nurse pushing a cart. He made his way to a nearby bulkhead while he scanned the room for someone who looked in charge…

Drake now frequently had to leave the comfort of secondary sickbay to hand certain PaDDs over to the Chief of Staff. As he was on his way out, he found someone in his path. Someone looking very confused. “Can I help you?” He asked, hoping the answer was no.
-Dr Drake Marshall, Chief of Surgery
Gordon’s head snapped round at the sound of the voice, the man had appeared out of thin air…how did such a lanky individual sneak around like that? Then he noticed the pips on the mans neck, an officer, although Gordon had guessed that already by the cocky and overconfident air the man had.
No matter how they tried to hide it, officers tended to have that attitude. It was like someone preprogrammed them at birth to all talk with that “I’m in charge” manner. And what was with that weird American accent…
“Uhh I hope so sir, I was to report here for my boarding medical? I’ve just transferred onboard…could you point me in the right direction?” He said knowing that he sounded as confident as a teenager trying to buy his first non synthahol drink.

“Yeah. Right. Over there.” Drake pointed to a biobed. “I’m Dr Marshall, Chief of Surgery. Hopefully it won’t go that far.” He picked up a medical tricorder. “Name?”
-Dr Drake Marshall, Chief of Surgery
Gordon blinked, the chief of Surgery? Great, which limb/organ was he going to be “Diffy” when this was done!
He wandered over and hopped onto the bed indicated by Drake, he looked around nervously as the room bustled with staff.
“I’m Crewman Muir sir, Gordon Muir.” He said after an awkward pause of a few seconds when he finally remembered he had been asked a question. His rather weird not quite Scottish not quite Federation standard accent mangling his words slightly.
Drake would find nothing wrong with the young man besides the usual fluctuations you found on a nervous patient.

OOC: unless you want to cause some carnage and find something?
“Apart from your startling blood pressure and heart rate, you’re fine. I would be concerned, except for the fact that your sweating. And chewing up every word more than your accent already would. So you’ve got jitters. As we call them in the medical community.”
-Dr Drake Marshall, Chief of Surgery
Gordon smiled at the blood pressure comment then frowned at the accent comment, “Excuse me, SIR, but there’s nothing wrong with my accent…” he said in a growl but which actually sounded like: “Excoose me, Suur, but thurs nuffing wrang with ma accent…”
Gordon’s accent appeared to get thicker as he spoke, but he held himself in check. Even if the saw bones was cheeky!
“Anyway sir, I’m just a little nervous. Seeing as this is my first ship and all…” he said after a moment, his accent softening.

“Ah. First assignment. Well, a piece of advice you didn’t ask for. You don’t seem like the brown nosing type, but even if you’re tempted, don’t. And… if you get an offer that doesn’t look great on the face of it, take it. I was offered Head of Surgery and turned it down. Biggest mistake I ever made. And ask anyone, you don’t want to be me. One day, someone might offer to promote you from enlisted to officer status. Ensign is more PaDDwork for no more pay. Take the job.”
-Dr Drake Marshall, Chief of Surgery
Gordon listened to the strange American, he seemed a not bad man even though he was clearly a knife wielding maniac. “Thank you sir, I’m only here to serve sir. Being promoted isn’t high on my list of priorities.” He said softly and earnestly, he coughed and decided to change the subject. “Am I okay to go sir or do you need anything more from myself?”
