Mark sat in his office and stared at a report that had been filed to him. He hated snitches. =/\=Ensign M’Nalie to the Chief’s office ASAP.=/\= he sat and waited, looking at the PaDD. He glanced back to the ritual dagger she had given him. Trust established. With trust came a certain degree of communication. Or so he thought. He returned his gaze to the report on his desk.

-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE

M’Nalie dressed quickly and groomed herself. But she stopped at the door to her quarters. For all she had lost any respect for the CNS when the woman had snubbed her hospitality the councilor had ordered her confined to quarters. Her direct supperior she knew held more authority over her. BUTshe had never disobeyed a order on purpose.
It was just so frustrating. She closed her eyes and said a prayer apologising to her ancestors for being a utter failure and stepped into the corridor. Her entire seeming drooped and she went from imposing to miserable excuse for a person in that one step. She dropped to all fours and ran at her full speed to Engineering That curvature of the corridors caused her to appear suddenly to those she practically flew past meant she left a trail of startled shipmates clinging to corridor walls behind her.

She was impatiant at how slow the turbolift was, and burst out of it as if it were on fire. Leaving a couple of crew diving for safety in her wake. She slowed only enough to allow the doors to Engineering to open before charging straight at the door to the CE’s office. Her attempts to brake on the bare deck plate of engineering were futile and she skidded into the door to that office (THUD),with a impact hard enough to stun her and fell prone. She was confused and disoriented but remained true to her focus enough to slap the door Chime. ((Thud, chirp)), And lay there blinking at the ceiling.

Ensign M’Nalie Eshenti. Engineer.

Mark raised an eyebrow, he walked to the door and opened it. “At least you understand what ASAP means. Come in. Close the door behind you.”

He didn’t offer her a seat. “Ensign. I received a report that you served in this department while declared unfit for duty and confined to quarters. I come from the Marines. I understand the impulse not to wait. But it says ‘awaiting re-evaluation.’ After violating orders like that, no one would argue if security confined you to the brig for the rest of your hitch on this ship! Next time you see that counselor, I expect you to behave like an officer. If you don’t, I’ll personally see you dropped off at the nearest starbase.

“You’re good at your job. Very good. So I’m going to listen to you instead of just issuing as many demerits as I can and kicking you out. What the hell made you think that would fly? The report from Darren’s office wasn’t final when you saw me. So I let you walk out of here and work. Explain why that’s ok.”

-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE

M’Nalie had known this talk was coming. She was not comfortable with herself at the moment. ” I needed to think about the meeting. I need to be active to think. The shipmwas damaged and the warp field inexplicably collapsing when every system, power coupling and coupler has been replaced. Duty to the ship seemed more important than a brused ego the CNS appears to be suffering. But she forced me to talk about my past failures. I got frustrated and swatted a chair. She ordered me to stay and sit. I sat as ordered but I sat facing away from her as I was taught to do so that the sight of what frustrated me did not provoke me further. She got upset and she called security. When security showed up she told the officer to escort me to my quarters. Dismissed finally I left. I followed every order as given. Exactly as it was given sir. So yes I went back tonwork. Nobody ordered me not to. I worked continuously for three days trying to understand what exactly had gone wrong. So I asked for a second appointment. She showed up at my door. She snubbs my hospitality. Insulting me my ancestors and the animal who in theory sacrificed it’s life to feed us. I try to ignore her rudeness sir. I ask her to appologise. She… She had a hissy fit. Now I am at a loss how to react. This is when I found out she had meant for me to be confined to my quarters. I am thinking I need to fike charges against her for her deception and manipulation of events to create a incident to dishonor me. She is insane sir? I need advice.” M’Nalie rumbled out looking bewildered by the situation she found herself in.

Ensign M’Nalie Eshenti. Engineer.

“So. You are saying that at no point did Lt Darren say that you had been declared unfit to serve, nor that you were confined to your quarters under security measures? That leaves you at unfamiliarity with and failure to abide by Starfleet code. And her with failure to properly conduct herself as an officer and provocation of conflict. Now you’re both in deep. I believe you because I know you believe in honour. And lying is one of the greatest failures in honour there is. I am going to ask one last time.” Mark was physically much smaller than M’Nalie, but his presence was large. “Lt Darren failed to conduct herself in a manner befitting a Starfleet Officer, and provoked you into actions which lead to your being deemed unfit for duty. Is that completely correct?”

-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE

M’Nalie frowned and sighed. “It seems so to me, but I feel like it is more that she was unfamiliar with my species. Mistook me for one of my smaller cousin speices and so acted inappropriately due to this. We may share a Planet and we can both trace our lines to the same ancestors. But we are very different culturally. So she asked me what made me join Starfleet and I answered but there are choices made that I never looked back on that do not sit easy with me Sir. So in telling it I became more frutrated with every sentence but once started such retellings must be recited completely. So asking those types of questions is something my people avoid. It is I think sir more that her entire job is designed by my cultural standards to pry into the things most likely to cause offence.”, she rumbled sadly, “This would not of been a problem except humans are too fragile a species to cuff casually when they are acting stupid.”, she continued “So she declared me unfit because she made me angry and I hit a chair and not her. Do you understand why I see her actions as insane?”.

Ensign M’Nalie Eshenti. Engineer.

“I understand. At least you didn’t strike her. Whether or not I would advise striking objects when you’re angry is another thing.” Mark thought for a moment “I’m issuing a disciplinary citation, and when you return to duty, you will not go anywhere unaccompanied for a month. I will speak to Lt Darren and will explain the situation. Any questions?”

-Lt(j.g) Mark Pierce, CE

M’Nalie flicked an ear, “Striking objects rather than people is what my anger issue management councilor suggested. I understand that other species do not cuff each other wrestle and generally work out problems phsically but it remains a common practice in my culture. “, And M’Nalie looked bemused, “It is perhaps notable that The Federation, and Starfleet insist everyone be treated as a equal. But in my culture not rough housing with someone is like saying you are weak and inferior and is a insult. Insulting each other can turn fatal in my culture. So I have at times wondered if joining Starfleet was a wise choice. But I do enjoy my work sir.”, and she sighed, “If It is required that I must seek arbitration this will cause a embarrassment to my family that would result in my mother insisting I return home. But attempts to talk to the councilor only lead to further insults against me.”, and she sighed heavily again,

Ensign M’Nalie Eshenti. Engineer.

“If it’s been recommended, keep it away from people who don’t understand that. I’m trying to save you from arbitration. I’m going to speak to Lt Darren alone. I’ll try to make her see your side. But if I’m going to ask Starfleet to meet you halfway, I need you to do the other half.” He looked at a collection of data chips. He picked one up and held it out. “Marine hand to hand combat training. You have some aggressions to get out, beat the hell out of some holograms. They’re set to simulate a lethal attack and stop just short of a kill stroke. I’m not asking for a model officer, decorated for good conduct, just get through the day.”
