<snip>Dr Jarvis’ eyes too scanned the readings, confirming what he already knew about the Captain’s temperature; 101.2 degrees Fahrenheit. He also noted the lowered O2 stats and elevated respiration rate. No surprises there. If not properly treated, a pulmonary contusion could lead to a respiratory infection. As the red-haired woman had not bothered to do so, hers had done just that. He just had to figure out which one. However, while this could easily be done with a tricorder, he decided it would be far more amusing to take a leaf out of Dr Marshal’s book.
“Wait here, Captain, I’ll be back momentarily,” Dr Jarvis said as he strode away from the biobed.
Well where was she going to go? She thought in annoyance as he turned her head and watched him skulk off.
Crossing over to one of the cabinets, he rummaged around inside until he found the old fashioned stethoscope. Truth be told, Jasper had always felt more at home when using what would be considered archaic medical implants. During the civil war on Amarok III, when he was a young teenager, tricorders, laser scalpels and hyposprays had not been readily available, so they had been forced to use older tools. Surgeries had been bloody and occasionally bordered on barbarism. Still, when on Kronos and all that…
Walking back towards his waiting patient, Dr Jarvis said authoritatively, “sit forward and lift up your shirt, Captain.”

Willow had sat up slightly onto her elbows, it was more comfortable to breathe like this. She frowned at him and coughed slightly feeling her chest tighten. “Uhh…how about no you creep” she said. Not very professional but of course the fever was a wonderful excuse. “Use a tricorder like a normal person.”

CO“Dear me, that sounds nasty,” Dr Jarvis’ said upon hearing the Captain cough. His sharp features contorted into a look of amusement that would send small children running to the escape pods. “Besides, I thought you expected me to follow the lead of my superiors, Captain?” he said with a slight hint of derision. “Dr Marshal, your chief of surgery, is well known in this sickbay for using older medical implements in his diagnosis and treatment of patients.” His expression then turned serious. “Now, shall we proceed with diagnosing which particular respiratory infection you have contracted?”

Willow brought her hand up and rubbed the bridge of her nose, her eyes closed as if by doing so she could ignore the man. “You’re enjoying this.” She accused. She did not respond to his other commentary and pushed herself back up into a sitting position.
“I enjoy my work, Captain,” Jasper replied smoothly, “just as I would hope everyone else aboard this ship dose. If one does not enjoy their work, they tend to do a sloppy job.” He paused for a moment as a thought came to him. Then under his breath, he uttered, “although that would explain a lot around here.”
After a few moments she opened her eyes and looked calculatingly at him, green orbs slightly glazed with exhaustion and heat. She frowned slightly then with a shake of her head and acting as though this was the Major inconvenience of her life thus far she pulled the bottom of her vest top up just enough to give him access to her lungs. “Happy?” She demanded.

A thin smile tugged at the corners of Dr Jarvis’ lips. “Good girl,” he muttered to himself as he walked over to stand behind the woman. Without warning, he pressed the cold, closed bell of the stethoscope against the naked skin of her back.
