As she rolled in the darkness of her room a short stab of pain shot across her ribs and caused her to cough for what felt like the thirteenth thousand time since coming to bed. Willow fumbled groggily for the time piece by her bedside and groaned at the lateness of the time. 2:39am…she flopped backwards onto the pillows and pushed her hand up her forehead and into her hair feeing a clammy sweat and burning skin under the touch. She shivered despite this, feeling cold. She lay on her back for another few moments taking into the whiteboard of her mind the list of symptoms and then with a sigh that started another coughing fit she slow, clumsily got to her feet.

In the en-suite she looked critically at herself in the mirror and shook her head. Three days and she still hadn’t shaken the symptoms that had come across her. Though in her mind she knew it had to be a result of the stupid fall in the holodeck the ex-physician heal thyself mantra and the limits of a basic medkit didn’t seem to be enough. There was only one thing for it....she would need to go to sickbay. She pulled off the damp pyjamas and pulled some lounge pants and a vest T-shirt on instead. The whole thing left her feeling exhausted, despite this she left her room pausing only to Put her head against Cai’s door and checking she could hear him still playing away at whatever he was doing on his mini PaDD she decided to parent later and headed out the main door into the corridors.

It took a stupidly long time to reach the secondary sickbay and the clammy had turned into a full on sweat by the time she reached the door and caught the attention of the first nurse she could.

“Captain..oh my.” The NE said and put a hand on her to steady the red haired, red faced, woman. Willow waved her away.

“Please…get me a tri-ox hypo and something for a fever please.” She said.

It was the middle of what passed for night aboard the USS Ogawa. Giving the lack of a star around which to orbit, a day/night cycle only really existed for conventions sake. In that respect, it did not bother Doctor Jarvis one iota that he had been stuck with what was considered the ‘graveyard shift’. In fact, back on Tarisa II, he had often used stimulants to allow him to work in a hospital during the day and… elsewhere during the night. Two or three hours of sleep per day had been the norm over a five day working week.

Tonight had been quiet. The ship and it’s crew had befallen no accidents, or at least none that had seen casualty brought to secondary sick bay, leaving him time to catch up on some research articles. Unfortunately, given the nature of his position, the opportunity to conduct his own research had been, put lightly, limited. So he was left to digest the work of lesser minds. This current article, on the fabrication of an improved Andorian prosthetic heart, would be receiving a scathing rebuttal.

Doctor Jarvis looked up when he heard the sound of voices coming from the direction of the entrance. A nurse was in conversation with someone that had just walked in. His eyes scanned the individual in much the same way a tricorder would; searching for the ailment. Even from this distance he could see the flush on the woman’s cheeks. Almost a perfect match for her hair. His lips formed into a thin smile on recognising her; the Captain. Well, you certainly took your time, he thought smugly as he rose from his chair. He could recall the incident where she had staggered into secondary sick bay several days ago. A stealthy scan of her injuries had revealed her to have a mild pulmonary contusion. A review of the treatment logs since had shown he still had not received the proper treatment. And just from her appearance, he could tell she had a fever, which almost certainly meant infection.

Light on his feet as ever, Jasper scuttled forward and intercepted the NE nurse before she headed of to do the CO’s bidding. “Nurse, belay that order, ” he said sharply. Though his words were directed at the nurse, his gaze was fixed on the Captain.

great…you. Willow thought as she watched the creep creeping forward. “Of course it’s you on duty,” She said and rolled her eyes. The nurse paused looking between the two. It was a dilemma for her, captain’s order of Doctors. She bit her lip and then withered under Jasper’s gaze. “Yes doctor…” she said waiting with an apologetic look at Willow.

The captain sighed but nodded. She regretted putting the woman in such a position. “ Doctor Jarvis, if you wouldn’t mind..” but she didn’t finish as a coughing fit took her again.

“Not at all, Captain, ” Dr Jarivs replied, his tone eerily pleasant, “step right this way.” He motioned to put a hand on the woman’s lower back and shepherd her towards the nearest biobed. “That cough you have sounds quite nasty indeed.”

Willow scowled at him. A look somewhat diminished in terms of its authority given her present state. She shied away from Jasper’s touch but only succeeded in moving closer to the biobed he was trying to shepherd her to. Tired and resigned to the fact she had no other choice at 3am Willow pulled herself up to sit on the bed. It was soft and part of ger wanted nithing more than to lie down curl up and go to sleep. “Spare me the pleasantries. Just hurry this up.”

Dr Jarvis was the type of person who drew great satisfaction and enjoyment from his work; so long as it was interesting. His time so far aboard the USS Ogawa had not been. And while he could probably diagnose tonight’s patient without even examining them, the identity of the individual would at least bring him some measure of enjoyment. To say the Captain had been hostile towards him since he had come aboard, would be akin to describing a drunk Klingon as mildly irritable. However, when it came to matters of a medical nature, all collar pips went out the window. In sickbay, the doctor was in charge.

“Is that a symptom you are displaying, Captain,” Dr Jarvis said in an almost humorous tone, if that was even possible. “As I cannot imagine a Star-Fleet Captain displaying such open hostility towards a member of their own crew under normal circumstances. Now, if you would lie down for me.”
