“Teenagers of every species seem to be befuddling at best,” Jessica commented with a laugh. “I’ve received plenty of training in normal behavior and they still confuse me half of the time.” Her head tilted to the side curiously as she heard M’Nalie call out to Cali and she watched with interest to see how the teen would respond.

Bump for Roger/Cale

M’Nalie had never been able to just stay still and to say that waiting on others was not something she was good at might be considered a understatement, she was starting to get frustrated. There was nothing here that she could see that provided any sort of challenge to her so she made her way back to the enterance and called up the arch. A few minutes fiddling with the controls and she was ready. A few quick commands. She hid the arch again. Then she walked back to where she had left the doctor pulling on a pair of gloves made for her and a bucket of talc powder. She had added a few things to the scene a series of stone spheres each larger than the last and a ttwelve foot long wooden pole about the roughly a foot an a half round. She put the bucket down and started a more serious warm up than she had done beforehand. “Enough nonsence. If they choose to waste time I might as well have some fun.”, she rumbled to the doctor as she warmed up and streached.

Jessica watched M’Nalie’s actions curiously and then studied the new objects appearing in the holodeck in front of her. “What’s the plan?” she asked of the Caitan, her voice bubbling excitedly. She bounced on her toes lightly as she awaited her response.

M’Nalie looked Jess up and down then sighed. “I din’t take your abilities into account lieutenant.”, and she gave the holodeck a few comands that added smaller sones to the mix, so that the sones all round spheres varied in size & weight between 10 lbs to 500lbs in 10 lbs increments. “This is a test of skil, strength & technique. You choose a stone, lift it, then carry it 5 yards before setting it down. She measured off the distance as she spoke. “You can not drop the stone. It must be set down properly. ” She said as she drew a line with the talc at the 5 yard mark. “Once all the stones are moved you score a point. The goal being to improve upon your previous score. ” and she drew another line before where the stones sat. “It develops strength, stamina and requires more concentration the heavier the stones get. ” and she then had the computer change the stones from 200 to 300 lbs to yellow and allthe stones over 300 lbs to red. “White stones should be child safe. Yellow stonues safe for a adult Human. Red stones are for me. This way each is handicapped so that is should be fair. ” she said brushing talc off her handpaws. “If this was a competition it would also be timed.” She rumbled

The doorway suddenly appeared and then opened as a curvy young teen with dark skin and vivid red hair, shorn very short, entered. She looked around, not immediately recognizing anyone, except for Cai of course. Suddenly, she felt a twitch in her stomach. Was this what she had always heard referred to as butterflies? She had always liked Cai of course, was fascinated by him even, but this was the first time she had ever felt anything like that. She hoped the butterflies didn’t give her away. “Hey Cai,” she waved, hoping she didn’t sound like a complete slug. “How’s it going?” She didn’t acknowledge anyone else in the holodeck. She hoped, silently, that he would take down his hood. It rarely happened, but it was always glorious when it did.

Jessica listened carefully to the instructions for the activity, but just as she was about to voice that sheer strength contests weren’t really in her area of expertise, the holodeck door opened and another teen entered. She studied the young lady as she first focused on Cai and greeted him. She noted that her focus was exclusively on the other teen and decided to leave them be for the moment before making her way over to introduce herself.

Returning her attention to the Caitian, she remembered her earlier protests and studied her. “I’m not sure sheer strength is my idea of an athletic contest,” she noted, her voice full of laughter. “I’m not quite built for it.”

M’Nalie watched the new arrival closely. Noted her interest in the other teen and her disinterest in anyone who wasn’t the boy. Her attention returned to Jess as the doctor spoke. “It is not really a competition against others Doctor. It is more a game againts yourself that happens to be good exercise. That it also builds character and strength is a side effect.” She rumbled finally looking away from thecteens.

Jessica laughed. “But what’s the fun in it if it’s not a competition against others?” she responded. “I’ll do this but only if I get to see you do yoga afterward with me.”

Dr. Lemann

M’Nalie flicked an ear in amusement, “You realise Doctor that as a Caitan I have what humans would call superior flexability. Even with miy size I can out contort most of humanity. Also doctor because of the fact that my subspecies is as comfortable on all fours as on two limbs , we are what humans term double jointed.”, A trait that the smaller so called main species of Caitans no longer enjoy. Yoga is not much of a challenge to me. However I would enjoy spending time with you as many of the crew find me intimidating anud avoid me.”, M’Nalie rumbled , her ears and tail motioning out forms a Caitan would intpret as honored and pleased by your request.

Ensign M’Nalie Eshenti. Engineer.

Jessica grinned at the engineer. “While I’m very competitive, yoga is one place that it’s more about your personal practice than turning into a better pretzel than the person next to you,” she observed. Her small blonde head tilted to the head as she processed the rest of M’Nalie’s statement. “Well, one of my closest friends is a Caitan.” She shrugged to emphasize the nonchalance of her point. It didn’t matter to her what species her friends were, just like it didn’t matter what one they were when she was treating them.
