“It’s such a small ship though,” Mel reasoned. But then she sat upright a bit. “But… I wonder if we could modify part of the triage deck. We don’t need all of it and we can reconfigure the space to make guest quarters that we can then try to alter the environment from there.”

Amari smiled at the response. “That’s an excellent idea. We’ll need the approval of the captain of course but I think she’ll agree. Put in the request and I’ll endorse the idea.” She liked Melaia Reez. She could hear the passion for the work in her voice, see it in her eyes. “In no time we’ll have our own little nature preserve.”

Mel gaze a lopsided grin. “Well, except for the one slight issue of the triage deck possibly being needed for medical emergencies.” Her grin deepened. “think you can guarantee us not to need the space before we get them home? Otherwise, it’s going to be more stressful on them than where they are currently. You know, use that magic first officer wand of yours,” she teased. Of course Brooks couldn’t guarantee anything. No one could. And she understood that better than most. But still, it was nice to throw a little banter into the mix.
