Mark made his way back to engineering. “Since no one knows what needing an assist is, we will be having shakedown drills when we get out of here.” Every NE cringed or moaned their discontent. Mark stepped up to a console and checked helm console function.

With power back to the command processors, the helm was now functional.

=^= All hands, this is the Captain. Due to an unforeseen course correction we have found ourselves in a spacial anomaly that we are seeking to rectify. We also seem to have somehow picked up some extra passengers. If you encounter anyone you do not know please notify the bridge immediately. All Duty Personnel report to your stations, civilians report to sickbay. Section and Department heads take stock of your staff and report to the bridge.=^=

Mark sighed. “Woods! You’re in charge until I get back.” An idea hit him and he approached the engineer. “Try to figure out exactly why we can’t generate a warp bubble. Coordinate with M’Nalie to see if you can get one going. I’ll be back ASAP.”

M’Nalie heard her name from where she was tearing apart a replicator to recover it’s dilithium matrix. And set the power regulator into a burn in diagnostics cycle for the next eight hours. Something had gone wrong and she suspected that a power fuctuation had caused the units mini computer to lock into a loop that had essentially caused the replicator to spew hot tomato soup continuously for over 10 minutes before it was taken offline. Setting up the Diagnostic took longer to discribe than to do so she of course just did it logged the time use and went to find Woods who apparently was in charge of her next task. M’Nalie hated the paperwork but did it religiously as she worked to avoid the need to sit still and waste time doing the paperwork later in the day. Her work log was full of such small notations as she loved working and continued doing tasks as long as nobody stopped her for her entire shift and a half that was her usual work day. Her work theory was that if the minor systems were kept sound the larger more robust main systems would continue to function. So she had so far avoided looking at why the ship could not form a warp bubble as the rest of engineering had been working on that and a host of minor subsystems had broken down when the ship got stuck and it was just possible that such a minor breakdown could be causing the failure.
In any case every system diognostic was turning up more faults as repairs to system A brought faults in B, C anD to light. So the big Caitan just quietly took a work station next to woods and started doing detailed diagnostics into every subsystem that interacted with the Warp field initiation process, Then the warp bubble sustaining systems and every power relay, capacitor and power system or subsystem even remotely involved in the process. She wanted to be sure it wasn’t a mechanical or electronic failure before she even tried looking at theoretical subspace phenomenon as a possible cause. But one thing did strike her as odd, ” Mr. Woods sir. I understand that chronaton particalsare part of the cosmic sinkhole we are stuck in. such partical generally form during temporal events and decay quickly. MIght this not indicate if they are maintaining a constant level thatcwexare within a temporal anomolous area such as a stasis field? If that is the case I read that Anoletic radiation will cause chronoton particles to collapse faster perhaps causing the root cause of the phenominon to pop like a balloon.”, and she wrinkled her nose at the idea as such speculation was more forcscientists than engineers.
