“Despair, huh?” Mark looked at the trail. “It’s been all over this section. Now, I was a Marine. Which is the short way of saying I spent a lot of time in jungles searching for targets, or lost troops. Any chance this could just be a mama looking for her kids? Basic animal instincts. Ran into our power relay. That’s a block in the road, took a bite to get through.”

T’Pris’ brow raised up as she continued scanning.”It appears to go into this second panel as well, could you remove it?” She asked as she tried to fine tune the tricorder to give her a more specific reading on the creature. Such as what type of creature it was, how its inner system worked and why it might be interested in their system. Was it siphoning energy from their system for food? Was it in a hibernation state now that it was sated?

The readings were a bit confusing, since there were few in the way of vitals, but the physiology seemed to suggest a gastropod mollusc but with resilient upper dermal layers more reptiloid in origin. What vitals that did come bad suggested some sort of bradymetabolism. Also, there was a fairly developed brain centre, even though there was no obvious head.

Mark understood at this point that once he had called down to science, he was just a grease monkey. A crowbar with a uniform. He lifted the next panel. He was still interested though, so he looked down to see where the trail went. Most likely to another panel for him to lift.

As the panel was removed, they’d find not only some more burnt out relays with more of the substance there, but nestled amongst the cabling where it was warm near the relay systems was a small cluster of white eggs sitting coated with a thick mucous.

T’Pris finished classifying the creature and her eyes widened a bit as she looked over the engineer’s shoulder.”Well, that would explain much. We can not leave the creature here with its offspring though. I think we should remove them to a proper habitat in the labs. =^=T’Pris to Lt. Moreino. Ensign Pierce and I have discovered a gastropod type lifeform and a nest of its young among the relays. It is my wish that we remove them safely from this environs and relocate them to the labs. =^=
