A little more than 45 minutes later, the chime sounded.

The chime startled Ana awake. Raising her head and rubbing her eyes once again, she called out, “come in!”

When the door opened, Mel stepped in, her long body softened by the previous year’s pregnancy. Her dark eyes did a quick sweeping assessment of the space and she smiled slightly at Darren before unconsciously smoothing out the front of her blue tunic she opted for as part of her civilian work uniform. “You rang?”

Momentarily confused what the woman was doing there, Ana connected the dots again to her mid-nap request. One slow blink of her dark eyes later to try to shake the rest of the tiredness out of them, she studied the woman in front of her for a few moments and then gestured to the extremely boring Starfleet issue chairs in front of her desk. Taking a deep breath in and letting it out slowly to steady herself, she pushed aside her nerves.

Reez moved gracefully over to the chair and settled herself in before she gazed at

“As I mentioned, I’m Doctor Darren, one of the psychiatrists on the Ogawa. I recently came aboard to take over from Doctor…” In her nervousness, her mind went completely blank while trying to recall the name of the psychiatrist she had replaced on the Ogawa. “…from another psychiatrist.” Taking a deep breath and trying hard not to ridicule herself for her performance so far, she continued, “she thought that it would be worth checking in with you as you’ve had a lot of, um, transitions lately.” Ana’s hand went to unconsciously rub the side of her face where she could still feel a slight indentation from the PaDD she had taken a doze on.

“Is that how she phrased it?” Melaia said with dry amusement as she crossed on leg over her other knee. “I suppose that would be a reasonable way to describe it.” It was hard, oh so hard not to slip into Captain-Mode! But she had been working hard to let that part of her go and now was probably as good a time as any to reinforce the process. Reez resisted the urge to scrutinize the woman overly, but she could tell even without her psi abilities that the woman was not one hundred percent ready for this. At least in this moment.
