Jessica’s characteristic emerald green eyes widened to what felt like the size of saucers as the door slid open to the USS Ogawa’s secondary sickbay. She couldn’t keep a massive grin from sliding over her features as she studied the array of medical technology in front of her. She’d never seen anything like it and she shivered with glee as the excitement of being posted on the medical ship washed over her yet again. Stepping through the door, she stopped a few paces into the facility, taking a slow opportunity to turn in a circle, resisting the urge to bounce happily. Her right hand ran through her hair, winding it in the long, blonde locks and pulling them over her shoulder as she stared at her new home with utter fascination.Lieut (j.g.) Lemann, General Practice
From a secluded corner of the sick bay, Dr Jarvis looked up from the scanner he was calibrating. Someone new had entered his domain. Hmmm what have we here he mused as he watched the woman twirl in a circle like a child who had just entered a candy store. Human, mid-twenties and just over five foot tall. He frowned to himself as he observed her and pondered whether there was any depth to her giddy grin of fascination. Only one way to find out…
“Beautiful, isn’t she,” he said in a nasily tone as he creeped from the shadows once her back was to him. “However, you should see it after an incident. Patients littering the biobeds in various states of mortal peril, only mistake away from the final curtain. Doctors rushing around, trying to cheat the seven foot skeliton. It’s quite breathtaking.”

Perhaps unsatisfying for Jarvis, Jessica barely jumped at the voice from the shadows. She did, however, drop her handful of hair and whirl around, blushing lightly at being caught in her excitement. Tossing her hair haughtily, she responded, “that’s what it’s here for, isn’t it? To save lives. It’s amazing.” She made a slow circle of the room once again before returning her attention to Jarvis and responding lightly, “and I don’t know about you, but I don’t make mistakes.”

Dr Jarvis watched as the woman barely flinched at his approach. So she had some degree of control over herself; how intriguing. When she blushed, however, he realised that there was still room for some improvement. Not that he considered that to be a bad thing. Once you had mastered every aspect of any given field it soon lost its charm. The pursuit of perfection was always more interesting than residing in such a state. He then listened to her words. Overconfident, egotistical, narcissistic? He would wait until he had read her record before making that judgement. Nevertheless, she at least seemed to exude some measure of personality, if a little too exuberant for his liking. In fact, she reminded him of… he quashed the thought the moment it materialised. That individual was very far from here and there was little to be gained from making a comparison with the newcomer.
“It’s often said that the person who never made a mistake, never tried to do anything. Yet I somehow doubt that applies to you.” He looked her up and down as though the glasses perched on his nose allowed him to penetrate her skin. “A new crew member I presume? And in need of a boarding physical, I’d expect. Step right this way.”
“For God’s sake, Jarvis, stop creeping about like a damned vampire and trying to induce heart attacks in our visitors just to give yourself something to treat!” a man shouted from across the room.
Following the voice to its point of origin would reveal a man with a receding hairline standing in the doorway to an office suite with his arms crossed and eyebrows narrowed as he glared at the offender.
“Dr. Lemann? If you could step over here, please?”
Lt. Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker
Chief of StaffDr Jarvis glared over at the figure of the Chief of staff. “I would hardly describe my movements as creeping, Commander. I’m not to blame for this room not having adequate lighting to illuminate its deepest crevices nor for the fact that the young lady had her back to me. Besides, if she were to take a heart attack, who better to treat her than a cardiologist?”
Dr J. Jarvis M.D
“Do you happen to know a good one?” Drake chimed in. “Dr Lemann, I would recommend getting away from the vampire ASAP. Especially if you’re A Positive. Dr Drake Marshall, Head Surgeon. Welcome to the Ogawa, now, between Jasper the Ripper and myself, you’ve met the extremely low bar you have to leap to be the favourite, personality wise.”
