Dr Jarvis used a pair of retractors to pull the two sides of the incision apart. “Nurse, I need suction to clear the area,” he said sharply, unable to get a clear view of the damage.Dr J. Jarvis M.D
OOC: Linds void this post if you had something else planned. I’m just trying to get Sadee awake.
IC: NE Nursey suctioned out the cavity and immediately it began filling with blood again. “Doctor, she is mere moments from bleeding out.” Jarvis would see the artery completely detached from the spleen. This was the source of the blood. So… much… blood. Sadee convulsed and seized again. Her whole body began to twitch and jerk.
-Sadee
Drake quickly put red scrubs on over his uniform and rushed in. “JARVIS!” He shouted, seeing Sadee convulse. “Get her stabilised, anticonvulsant, stat.” he addressed the nurse. Turning to Jarvis, he said “My on sight diagnosis was wrong, but if you know her spleen is ruptured, why are you taking your good sweet time getting to it? She is dying. Fast. She is not your plaything. Save her or give me the scalpel. That is an order Crewman.”
-Lt Drake Marshall, M.D.
Dr Jarvis did not have the luxury of time to glare at Dr Marshall, “it’s not the spleen rupture that is going to kill her, rather her severed splenic artery.” From a tray, he seized a vascular regenerator and a pair of forceps. “Nurse, I need her held steady.”
Carefully but swiftly, he brought the two ends of the severed artery together and activated the device. If successful, the artery would knit together and stop the bulk of the blood flow, hopefully buying him enough time to repair the spleen.
OOC: Linds, I know you want to insert a character here, so I’ll hang fire on continuing the surgery until you have the chance to do so.
Dr J. Jarvis M.D
“You realise her ruptured spleen may be concealing a secondary source of bleeding. Right, o righteous one?”
-Dr Drake Marshall
The artery repair still in progress, Dr Jarvis could spare only a passing moment to reply to Drake’s statement. “Given that the spleen is ruptured, it is itself a secondary source of bleeding. Is it concealing a third, possibly? Regardless, if I go hunting for tertiary sources of bleeding and ignore the primary one, the patient will die. Everything in due course, Dr Marshall.”
OOC: It’s not going to work quite as planned now, but I’ll adapt and try a different character.
IC:
Behind Jarvis and to his left, a petite woman, in her early twenties appeared with a tray of instruments, none of which were needed for the current situation. She was doing her best to stay out of the way, but leaned in a bit to see what the other doctors were doing and subsequently tripped and dropped the instruments on the deck. “Ohhhh! Not again!” she whispered. “Stupid intern. Stupid, stupid.”~Mischief Maker
The clatter of instruments on the deck around his feet forced Jasper to break his concentration for a split second so he could look at what was going on. “You, Intern, stop scrambling around the floor like a Ferengi hunting for a piece of dropped latinum and hold this clamp for me.” He then turned to Drake, “while you might outrank me onboard this ship, my surgical experience far outweighs yours. And I am more than capable of handling a simple ruptured spleen and severed splenic artery. Why don’t you go and make sure everything else in sickbay is in order. After all, you are the ranking officer.”
Dr J. Jarvis M.D
“Yes, Doctor,” the intern said from beneath her surgical mask. She reached in and held the clamp for the doctor as directed, her hand much more steady than her earlier klutziness might have implied.
“Nurse. I want a full report on this surgery as well as Dr Jarvis’ conduct.” He nodded to the assisting nurse. Then he whispered to Jarvis. “Unless you were doing appendectomies in prison, we’re a little closer to even than you would like to believe.” He walked out and started removing his surgical scrubs. =/\=Doctor Marshall to Doctor Walker. Is Jarvis authorised to perform surgeries? Given his past?=/\=
-Dr Drake Marshall
=/\=If he’s being properly supervised, yes,=/\= Brad replied. =/\=Why?=/\=
=/\=XO’s daughter came in, ruptured spleen and associated internal bleeding. He’s not doing anything wrong per se. He’s just taking his time. I ordered the nurse to give me a full report on the surgery and Jarvis’ conduct. If Ms Brooks codes, I’m taking over.=/\=
-Dr Drake Marshall
=/\=Crap. Alright, watch him closely, you’ve got my backing to do what you need short of killing him,=/\= Brad replied.
“I would have thought Doctor Holt would have been doing this surgery. Isn’t he the general specialist?” the intern asked, even though there was no Doctor Holt on board.
“Who?” NE That Guy asked.
Lt. Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker/NE That Guy
Chief of Staff/Random DudeIgnoring the back and forth between the chief of staff and chief of surgery, Dr Jarvis finished with the vascular regenerator and held it out for the nurse to take. “I was unaware that we had a Dr Holt on board, however, it is possible that I have not encountered him yet. Regardless, Nurse, I am the one performing this surgery,” he emphasised, alluding to the nonsense going on between the senior officers. If this was going to be the reaction every time he tried to save someone’s life, he would not be surprised to find himself in the brig sooner or later. “Nurse, hand me the anabolic protoplaser. We can now begin repairing the damage to the organ itself.”
Dr J. Jarvis M.D
Bump for Harley and Linds.
Meanwhile outside of the surgery Cai sat looking a little lost and more than a bit shocked considering his sort of, but not in that way, friend had collapsed in front of him and the doctors had all rushed off to deal with it. He watched Drake on the other side of sickbay and looked around. There were a lot of people he didn’t know in sickbay....he hated sickbays. This posting was the worst of all the ships Willow had dragged him to because it was basically one giant sickbay. The teenager shuddered, a clamp sort of sweat breaking out across his forehead and closing his eyes willed the nauseated feeling to go away.

Drake didn’t want to interact with the Captain’s brother again, but he has been taught that there are certain things you just do. He walked over and sat down. “She’s going to be fine. You on the other hand, look like crap. What’s the deal?”
-Dr Drake Marshall
Opening his eyes he looked at Drake and gave the required scowl of angsts teens. “I don’t like sickbays. When they are empty and it’s quick it’s fine but full like this it gives me the creeps ok. Can you go away and deal with someone else.”
“Well you also look like you’re about to hurl on my sickbay floor. And the guy I would typically put on mop detail is in surgery. So, how about you tell me what’s really going on? Then I’ll medicate you and you can tell me to go to hell. Deal?” Drake had been Cai ten years earlier, minus the blue hair. He understood hating the world because it felt like nothing but pressure in a place where no one really cared. Cai had the advantage of not being in his first year at the Medical Academy at the time. He just needed something beyond the metal music and pissing off his sister to do that he cared about.

Just then, Melaia and Jonathan entered the med bay with the twins in tow and Mel looking like she was trying her best to hide her pain. Quickly she surveyed the the place and knew that her injury was minor and low priority, so she simply moved over to the waiting area. “You can leave the kids here and go. I know they probably need you,” she told Jonathan.

OOC: I’m sorry for the delay. I was wondering, however, if we should split this thread. It’s a bit confusing as there are really two locations going on here, the main area of sickbay and the surgical suite. I’ll change the location for my reply and those in the surgical suite can reply. If you are in sickbay, go back one post and reply to that one.

IC: Sadee’s vitals began to stabilize, and her color was slowly returning to normal.
