After leaving the company of Dr Marshall, Dr Jarvis found himself escorted by security officer Williams to what he reasoned would be the psychiatry suite. Approaching the desk he saw that, unlike the secondary sickbay, there was no hapless crewman to irritate him. An irony he thought, given that psychiatrists and counsellors were supposed to be welcoming, whereas medical facilities needed to run with the utmost efficiency. Nevertheless, he signed himself in and took up a seat to wait on one of the counsellors. He did not relish having to sit through another individual’s attempts at delving into his mind. The one before Counsellor Pope had gotten himself hopelessly lost.

Mariah was sitting at her desk writing notes when a chime sounded at her terminal which alerted her there was someone requesting to see a member of mental health services. Closing out the current file, Grayson stood, always grateful to have someone to talk to over paperwork any day. Leaving her office, the department yeoman handed her a PADD and nodded in the direction of The day after. Approaching him, she offered politely, “Hello, I am Dr. Mariah Grayson. Please, follow me and we can talk in my office.”

Dr Jarvis’ gaze roved over the woman as he stood up. Human, just over five and a half foot tall and just under forty he suspected. He would find out more when he reviewed her medical record at a later date; as he would the rest of the crews. “Lead the way,” he replied as he motioned to follow.

Having seen Grayson be called away for a psychiatric emergency, Ana took a deep breath and intercepted Jarvis.

“I’m sorry about that, Doctor,” she explained politely, her dark eyes large and meeting his.

The sudden change in personnel amused Dr Jarvis somewhat. So much for providing the patient with a calm and stable environment. He tutted internally. What would Counsellor Pope have thought about this, he mused. A thin smile threatened to tug at the corners of his mouth, however, that was before he caught sight of the newcomer’s eyes. Those beetle black’s were the hallmark of a Betazoid. Yet if this deduction unnerved him any, he did not let it show.

“I’m Doctor Darren and I’ll actually be the one conducting your evaluation. Shall we get started?” She waved him into one of the small offices and indicated several seating options including chairs and a comfortable looking couch.

Jasper stepped across the threshold, his mind already running through the exact process of how to transplant a Vulcan heart; just in case. His gaze cast over the variety of seating options available to him. A classic way for someone in the psychiatric field to try and make a judgement about you before you had even sat down, literally. He’d chosen the couch with Counsellor Pope. An easy way of convincing the man he was willing to talk openly. Today he chose the seat in front of the desk. This was a simple evaluation after all, not therapy.

“Would you like a lollipop?” She queried, reaching behind her for a small decorative bowl full of brightly colored candies on a stick. The selection included purple, red, green, and orange.

“Tell me, Counselor, do you offer everyone who enters your office some free cavities with their consultation? If so I would imagine that the ship’s dentist is either your best friend or worst enemy. Depending on his disposition, of course.” He waved a hand to decline the candy, should his question not have already sufficiently done so.
