Adrian Sorel glanced at Sadee and then back to Em’ugo. “Are we done here or are we going to work on some assignments today?” He asked.

“You have the rest of the hour to work on any additional assignments you were previously working on. Starting tomorrow, we will begin with organized curriculum so that everyone in this room is working on the same schedule, even if at different levels of comprehension.” She spoke up, once Adrian had finally swung the topic back to school work. “If you have any special projects you’d like to work on during school hours,” She addressed each of them, “Run them by me and we can discuss further.”

Cai rolled his eyes as if this was not what he wanted to do. “And if your curriculum is as boring as every other one I’ve encountered?” He asked.

“Suck it up. Not everything is life is going to live up to your expectations, Mr. Taylor. You’d better learn to deal with what you have, while you still have it.” It was harsh, but what else was to be expected from a Klingon?

Cai sighed deeply and crossed his arms. “You know it always struck me as odd that adults say things like that when in fact they tend to indulge in the very thing they are shaming us for, complaining, pouting, rage. In terms of the psychological implications for your words, as an educator you carry extra weight in many ways. What you are doing is teaching us not to feel empathy for ourselves. So I guess I will suck it up as you say but when I get fed up of that you may find yourself being the one projected on later.”

He pushed the ear buds back into his ears and looked down at the PaDD. “People who say suck it up are betraying that they too are living with previous issue and betraying the fact they are doing nothing to help themselves.That’s what sucking it up gets you. Projection onto others. It’s not strong. It’s not how it is…it’s cowardice.”

Adrian Sorel’s eyes widened as he listened to Cai. He himself would have never dared to say such a thing to an adult, never mind a teacher. But the other boy did have a point, a very valid one if one considered it logically. “Internalizing emotions is destructive in the long run, it is better to face one’s emotions.” He dared to add.

Sadee listened and watched with delight. She was falling hard and she didn’t even care. “I mean, seriously, have you ever seen a Klingon ‘suck it up?” She laughed out loud her eyes sparkling with rebellion.
