Having just left the briefing, Koria made her way straight down to engineering. As always, there was too much work, and never enough time.

“Chief, what we got?” Chief Bowers said as she walked through the door.

“Just another small medical emergency, as always.”

There were a few chuckles as she made her way over to the center display board, her team leads joining her. Back in Engineering, her nerves disappeared, she was at home. This is where she knew what to do.

“Unfortunately, it is looking like the possibility of a pretty big pandemic this time, so we will need to double check all of the environmental systems, make sure that we can actually contain any potential pathogens that come aboard. It’s big enough that, we are going to need to land the ship to lend support. And, if you remember, we modified the external access hatch on the triage deck during our last mission to make it into an airlock.”

Koria let the silence linger for a minute.

“Alpha team, you are on access hatch duty. Make sure that we can still actually use it the way it’s meant. Beta team, I want you double checking the environmental systems, I’d prefer not to get sick. Charlie team, check the landing systems. I’m not sure the last time they were used, and I really don’t want to crash the ship into the ground. Any questions?”

Looking around and the team leads, they were shaking their heads.

“Alright, let’s get to it.”
