USS Ogawa
Mess Hall
The lunch rush had settled into its familiar rhythm aboard the USS Ogawa. The hum of quiet conversations, the clink of utensils against trays, and the occasional chirp of the food replicators blended into the comforting background noise of the Deck 4 Mess Hall. Crew members from every department filtered in and out, taking advantage of a brief respite before returning to their duties.
Lieutenant Dr. Ronda Holms, Assistant Chief Medical Officer, occupied a table near one of the large viewport windows. Beyond the transparent aluminum, stars drifted silently past as the Ogawa continued on her mission. Her lunch was simple but satisfying—a steaming plate of chicken parmesan accompanied by a cup of hot Earl Grey tea.
A medical PADD rested beside her plate. Between bites, Ronda reviewed the day’s reports with practiced efficiency. Sickbay had remained relatively quiet, limited mostly to routine physicals, minor injuries from engineering maintenance, and a handful of crew members suffering from fatigue after extended duty shifts. She made a few annotations, flagged two follow-up examinations for the following morning, and approved the latest inventory update from the medical supply officer.
She paused long enough to take a sip of her tea, savoring the familiar bergamot flavor before returning to the report concerning the ship’s annual medical readiness statistics. Even during lunch, the responsibilities of an Assistant Chief Medical Officer were never far from her thoughts.
Around her, life aboard the Ogawa continued uninterrupted. Security officers discussed duty rotations at a nearby table, engineers debated warp field diagnostics over sandwiches, and a pair of junior science officers quietly argued the merits of competing stellar cartography models.
For a few precious minutes, however, Dr. Holms simply enjoyed the rare luxury of a hot meal, a warm cup of tea, and a moment of calm before whatever challenge awaited her next.
