Dr. Selvane hurried off the shuttle his feet taking him as fast as regulation would let him walk. “I knew I should have taken the other shuttle time, that would have been the logical choice. Blast this small bit of human from my family long past.” he thought to himself. Even though his shuttle should have arrived on time, it was close, too close, to his reporting time.

As he continued through the turbo lift and into the hall outside of sickbay, all he could think was how bad it would be to be late to report for his first post-academy position. He had been dreamed of becoming a medical officer of a starship for as long as he could remember. It was what kept him going through his rigorous studies.

Stopping for a moment to collect himself, he stood waiting just outside the door to sickbay. Eagerly he thought to himself, “Ok. Deep breath. This is actually happening but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. There will be time to be excited later, right now let’s be professional and do what I’ve been training my whole life for”.

With a calm “woosh”, the door opened to sickbay. Empty of patients but full of the rest of the medical staff introducing themselves once the had reported the CMO. As he was the least experienced, he had been given the last reporting time to allow the more senior officers to get antiquated.

Excited he knocked on the door to the CMO’s office and with a “come in”, the door opened.

With an excited but professional tone, Ensign Selvane took a breath and started. “Dr. Selvane reporting for Duty”.
