She walked to their bags and pulled out her dark grey blue silken nightgown. Her mind listened to Dira’s observation and she nodded. “Ah, the double standard that applies to all in dangerous leadership positions. How much to you divulge to share your triumphs and sorrows enough without overdoing it? I suppose it is trial and error.” Zoi slipped out of her outfit, carefully folding it and placing it on the dresser and followed it quickly with her undergarments of frilly lace. She turned, naked as a jaybird, to her love. “I think you have realized you have given too little and shall now endeavor to find a more middle ground. I know they understand. Your parents are very good people.”

Dira had unzipped the back of her long dress and simply stared at Zoi, her eyes intense. “By the Goddesses, you really are stunning,” she said. No exaggeration, no qualifiers.
Closing the distance with sure steps, all the sadness and weight from the conversation with her father was pushed aside as she swept Zoi into her arms and pressed her lips to her beloved’s.

For a full second, Zoi just blinked at her lover. She grinned widely as Dira came to her with purpose and the laughed loudly as she was swept up. Her legs wrapped around Diras waist as they kissed and pleasured each other until their worries fell away into oblivion.

Zoi was always a balm for her weary heart. No matter how she was feeling or what was going on, some days all she needed was to hold Zoi or have Zoi hold her and everything felt okay.
As morning cast a thin beam of sunlight past the drapes, Dira soaked up the sensation of warmth from her lovers’ body, listening to her breathing, and smiled. Knowing they had time to be somewhat leisurely before preparations for the ceremony ensued, Dira would have been happy to just lay in bed with Zoi. But there was one other conundrum: she really wanted coffee. So, with a regretful sigh, she rolled over knowing that her movements would wake the blond woman. “Going to make coffee,” she whispered. If Zoi wanted to continue sleeping, she absolutely could.
Slipping out of bed, she threw on a nightgown and then a robe over that and quietly left the bedroom.
Zoi rarely turned herself in her sleep. Once she found a comfortable position, she usually remained there all night. This morning, she lay on her back, legs spread a little to allow for the entwining of Diras dark legs with hers. One arm was out and wrapped around Diras body. The other was upturned with her hand resting on the cascade of messy blonde curls splayed out over her pillow, fingers slightly curled towards her palm. When Dira left her, she moaned softly, an acknowledgment long known to her partner as “of course my dear. I will wake soon and join you.” The she turned on her side, nuzzling into the pillow and warmth left over from her partner as she let her mind wake slowly. In the back of her mind, she knew how long it would take for the coffee to be made and the smell to make it’s way to her.
In the small kitchen, Dira moved about like no time had passed. Sure, things had moved around a little, but she knew her father so well that she could intuit where he might keep this item or that thing. Soon enough, she was pouring hot water over the grounds in the large press and secured the lid to trap the heat.
Kesren padded into the kitchen rather bleary eyed and blinked. I thought I smelled coffee. Go figure it’d be you up first.
Dira laughed through their mental connection. Since when have you ever been a morning person, Ada? Don’t tell me it’s something new you’re trying.
He flashed a grin. Not quite. Though I have taken to having a morning walk before everything gets busy. It does require me to be up reasonably early.
She shook her head. Wonders never cease.

The moment the refreshing warm spicy scent of coffee hit her nose, she breathed it in and stretched languidly, feeling the soft sheets sliding against her skin as she did so. Her bright blue eyes finally fluttered open and then squinted at the golden sunlight that poured across her bed. Zoi slowly slipped to the edge of the bed, sitting up and feeling the stiffness start to fade from her body.
Zoe was one to take her time in the mornings though she could get ready in the snap of her fingers. Having a long life had goven her the opportunity to really figure out what she enjoyed. To Diras inherant bright chaos, she was a calm and silky night. could feel Dira near so she donned her dark blue grey silk nightgown and the matching velvet robe. Time to get coffee.

Her head turned in Zoi’s direction the moment she felt her partner’s presence drawing nearer. Dira shifted her mug to her left hand and poured a new cup with her right, holding it out for the blond woman as she entered the kitchen. Her dark eyes glimmered. “Perfect timing as usual,” she said with a grin.
Zoi smiled and kissed Dira’s cheek as she took ahold of the mug of hot brew. Her pavlovian-like response to the smell of coffee was a sense of calm and rightness in the world. It was second only to Dira or her mother’s touch.
Kesren sipped his own cup and watched the pair for a moment, a soft smile on his lips. “You know she’s going to ask, right?”
Dira shot her father a sideways glance. That question could relate to a number of topics, but his emotions were far too happy for it to be about her revelation last night. “Mother can ask a lot of questions, and it is her wedding day. What is it you think she’s going to bug me about today?”
Her gaze traversed between father and daughter, curious about what question he was referring to. She sipped her coffee without putting anything into it, tasting the deep bold roast and determining how she would like to doctor it this morning. Deciding on a little cream and a solid two spoonfuls of sugar, she moved over to begin preparing her cup of morning joe to her liking while Dira’s father explained what he meant.
Kesren laughed and sipped from his mug. “She’s all filled with feelings of love on this day, and she is happy to see you so happy.” He turned his gaze between Zoi adn Dira. “She’ll prod to see what the future looks like, because she can tell how happy you two are, and that You wouldn’t have brought a guest to her wedding if it wasn’t serious.”
Dira smiled and looked at Zoi, quirking a brow as if to say, Shall we tell him? Sure, they had only just agreed to move in together last night, but it had felt like the most natural progression, even inevitable.

She took her time adding and stirring and took a sip before smiling and nodding. “I suppose we should since your mother will want to weasel it out of you anyway.”
Haven, CoS
Dira chuckled. “Oh, undoutably. This is the problem with having empathic and telepathic parents. They always know something is up.”
“It makes for easier and more difficult parenting,” Kesren said, sipping again.
She held the mug in her hands and smiled softly, the simply joy of that moment last night where Zoi so naturally went along with her rather impulsive suggestion. But was it impulsive? Dira rather thoguht it was more inevitable. “So, last night I suggested to Zoi that when we get back to the Ogawa, that we should move in together and share quarters. And she said yes,” she said, breaking into a beaming smile and holding out an arm to Zoi.
Zoi responded to her lovers smile with a wide one of her own and instantly moved into Dira’s arms, wrapping her own around Dira’s waist. The movement was natural and it felt right, as so much had since they met. Both had taken chances to be together and yet each step seemed exactly where it needed to be.
Kesren broke into his own wide smile. “Well then, that is a big development. I’m so happy for you two.” He gave Zoi a sideways glance. “Have you fully prepared for the whirling dervish that is my daughter’s space? I’m sure you’re familair with it, but living with it is something entirely different. And I thought I was bad.”
“Hey!” Dira said, breaking into a laugh. “I am not that bad, and besides, I actually have been making an effort. My office is impeccable though, save for the ever present pile or piles of padds that people bring me. Occupational hazard.”

She laughed and kissed Dira’s cheek before turning her bright blue gaze back to Kesren. “I certainly am familiar with it but if we are honest, I have been staying with her more often than not. Truly my quarters are dusty and neglected except for my plants, though I have moved my more temperamental ones to Dira’s quarters already. She is less whirling dervish and more lackadaisical yogi these days.”
Dira snorted. She wasn’t wrong. Yoga was the easiest thing for her to do before or after a shift, and something about Zoi’s calm organization helped her pause before she just threw something over the back of a chair and actually put it away. Most of the time. Well, it was fifty-fifty. She was a busy starship captain afterall.”
“I am a tidal wave of tidy pretty regularly. Because I have to keep an eye on my plants, tidying is sort of second nature.”
Haven, CoS
“That and I swear it soothes her. Maybe also that she knows it’s a kindness she can do for me and that I appreciate, though she can correct me if I’m wrong,” Dira said with a warm smile as she turned her face to Zoi and planted a kiss on her cheek. She was usually a touch-feely person, but years of having therapeutic boundaries and now being in command meant that she had often tamped down her natural instincts. It had been rather freeing to realize that she could just drop all of that when she was off-duty on Zoi.
She scrunched her face and giggled a little as Dira kissed her cheek. Giggling was not something she did around others often. Zoi was simply reserved around most people, but Dira drew her natural hidden personality out for others to see. “Actually, I think you are correct. I really do enjoy tidying. Its a bit like meditation. I do it regularly and that way I can keep it from getting overwhelming for either of us.”
Kenren sipped from his own mug. “Well, I’m glad you two have figured it out and that you have a path forward that makes you happy. That and I think I can speak for both your mother and myself that we’re thrilled there is someone to help take care of our daughter while she is usually taking care of everyone else. A little balance is nice to see, yes?” he said with a deep and warm smile that lit up his eyes. He sent an affectionate brush over Dira’s mind and she closed her eyes briefly and smiled as she nodded. With Zoi in her half-embrace and her father’s care so abundant, she felt loved. Pure and simple.
“Now, let’s get ourselves some breakfast and get going. Sesara will be pissed off if I get you there late, today of all days,” he said, stepping over to the fridge.
“Ada,” Dira said, that strangely timid voice creeping back in again from last night. “Are you sure I should tell her about… it all, today? Shouldn’t I wait until after.?
Kesren turned and he stood there feeling his age in the same breath as he could so vividly recall Dira as a child working through something tricky. He shook his head. “I know you’re anxious about it, and that telling me last night was so very difficult. I do appreciate that. But it being that difficult is why you need to tell her before the ceremony. Clear the air. She’ll be wondering, Almai, you know she will. I think you opening up to her will be a lovely gift, even if the story is hard to hear.” He looked out one of the windows and then back at Zoi and Dira, breaking into a tiny smirk. “Though do yourselves both a favour and do it early. Redar has incredible patience, but the man has been waiting long enough, and he might be a bit miffed if he finds out his bride is holed up somewhere hashing out every detail.”
She couldn’t help but break into a laugh. “I’ll be sure to keep that in mind.” Dira turned her gaze on Zoi. “Mother being a neuroscientist will definitely have her working through some things in her head. I can see her now just trying to work out the intricacies of my telepathy-blocking headband and all the possible benefits and issues.” She shook her head, though it was with a fond smile.

“I shall follow where you lead my love…” She paused. “Dira, you have titles for your family or rather, terms of endearment like Ada and Almai. What is one for your partner?”
Haven, CoS
Dira beamed. “Well, Ada and Almai are Hallian terms. And for a person I loved romantically I might use, something like Sialhara, which translates loosely to heart keeper.” Dira set her coffee to the side for a moment, before reaching for Zoi’s free hand and brushing the back of it with her lips. “I would say it as a phrase, de sialhara,” she said, letting the words roll over her tongue with the correct accenting. “Keeper of my heart.”
Zoi took a moment and rolled the word around in her mind. De Sialhara was a mouthful and she wondered if it would be as easy to say in time as “dearest”, which she used often when speaking to and about Dira. She cherished the woman before her and dearest was simply the best way to convey that in her mind. Then again, she did not have Hallian as her native language.
“But I am fortunate that I have phrases from more than one culture I can choose from. If we pick a suitable one from Betazed, I’d use Imzadi, to mean my beloved. But it’s so much more deep than that, more… everything.” It was hard to explain. I wouldn’t use Imzadi for anything less than someone who has claimed my heart so fully that I feel they are an essential part of me.” Dira broke into a cheeky grin. “So we can pick. Which do you like?”
Captain Myqian, CO
She smiled, liking the idea of being everything to Dira one day. “Well, I dont think you are ready for Imzadi just yet. I do like it the most, but that is probably just because it is something I am familiar with. Beloved or de sialhara sounds nice and maybe one day it will be Imzadi.”
