Aaron strolled into main engineering looking rather disturbed, carrying a large duffle bag and a large composite backpack. He looked around as he entered looking from someone to help him. Calder was talk his firm forearms exposed by his rolled up sleeves. He was an odd site in yellow security tunic black tactical pants with enough pockets to store his own tool kit, with enough medical pouches and packs at his waist to service a small disaster team. “Could I get a hand?” he asked.Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityNavale was passing through the main bay and looked up. She didn’t paused, just walked right over and took a handful of items off the man. She was used to seeing people carry everything they owned on them at all times, or hoarding so much in a run that it was falling off them like leaves in the fall. That was at home though, where resources were scarce and you fought for each item that might or might not help you. It was an odd sight on a star ship. “How can I help you Lt?”
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
He look at his hands, then at her and smiled. “Calder”, he responded.
“Well my Grav locks for my climbing tent is failing and I don’t know why, I test them in the holodeck make sure they are working” he noted. “I do a lot of free climbing on my off time and like to make sure the gear is sold so” he paused. “Well so I don’t die a horrible death.” he noted.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa Security“Huzzen. And you’re in luck,” she smiled and started walking toward a side door. “Small machine diagnostics is my specialty. We’ll get it looked at.” She keyed the door and stepped into a small machine room. Full of tools and gadgets on tables that were in various states of repair or disassembly. She moved toward a table on the far right and set his gear down. She reached into a drawer and pulled out a rolled up canvas bundle. “Want to pull the tent out, and I’ll take a look.”
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
Calder smiled, she was at least entertaining, his life on the Chimera was full of noise, hurry up and wait and tones of getting shot at. “Sure” he said, “Just press the two grave locks against the wall and press green button.”
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityHuzzen moves some things around and grabs the grave locks and presses them against the wall and hits the green button and then removes her hands.
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
The locked hummed to life filling the room with its dull sound the small one man tent expanded and hung on the wall. “It works great till you actually get in it” he said pushing down on the edge, the hum became broken as he tried to climb in and then. Pop it came of the wall. Calder caught the tent, “Fine in here but when i’m 300 feet up a cliff not so much.” he smiled
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityNavale stared intently at the tent, her brows drawing together making the etching’s on her forehead more pronounced. She flipped open a tricorder and reset the tent. “Push down on the tent again?” she asked as she ran the tricorder over the two antigrav pieces to make sure they were actually engaged correctly before he tried to ‘enter’ the tent again.
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
Aaron smiled as he thought of several inapproprait comments, he had been around marines to long. “Like this?” he said puting a little weight on the unit, much more and it would break lose. The read out showed the field around the joiners was faltering slightly.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityNavale nodded, “Yes, just like that.” She studied the scans. She scanned both anchors and then hummed softly. “Thank you,” she set the tricorder down. “You can lett go.” She reached over and pulled the tent down and removed the anchors and with deft fingers opened them to show the inner working parts. “Hmmm I think the joiners have worn down.” She popped them out and set them on a diagnostic scanner to get a look at the physical and mechanical integrity.
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
Calder smiled, “good I was worried i might fall and look like and idiot” he said smirking .”So how long have you been on the Ogawa?” he asked, he liked engineers they had clear minds normaly, got to the point, and always seemed to know how to have fun.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa Security“Nah, I’d catch you, and can’t fall too far in here…though,” she glanced around at the mess, “should probably straighten up in here.” Navale set the pieces down and started removing parts and grabbing little pieces that looked shiney and new. “Hmmm… about a year?” Her nose wrinkled as she stared at the device and carefully placed the smaller pieces in place. “Yeah almost a year. Doesn’t feel that long.”
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
“I bet you would” he smirked in response to her catching him. “Strong hands working over all this machinery I imagine” he looked around at the mess. “Mmm guessing you know where everything is right?” he noted. “hmm Year how do you like it, to be honest I miss my friends , and, well my friends” he noted
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa Security“Mmmm… more like quick reflexes. Got to be read to dodge out of the way of sparking relays or catch the tiny things that roll off the table before they disappear between cracks in the bulkheads.” She was clearly distracted by what she was doing and not paying attention. A heart beat, two, and then three.
If Navale had been drinking she would have spewed it all over the work bench. She laughed and shook her head, “Wonderful, I just stuck my foot in it didn’t I?” The engineer looked over at him and laughed, “I didn’t mean that the way it sounded, or at least…I don’t think I did.” She laughed again, clearly not afraid to laugh at herself. She looked around at the mess. “Mostly. I’m not the only one who uses this space. We engineers are notoriously messy.”
The back of the stabilizer snapped into the place as she paused. “I like it. It’s different from my last posting. I miss my friends too, but I’ve made new ones. And there are always new people coming through, and I enjoy meeting them.” She cracked open the second stabilizer and working on replacing those parts.
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
Calder smirked. “Well at least there is someone around her that likes to play a little, life is to short to be all stuffy.” he laughed leaning around to smile at her which was a mistake “CRACK BBBBBBSSZZZ” the locks failed and so did he, the small cot fell as did he, right into Huzzen, sending them both to the ground.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityShe was quick. The parts were quickly moved out of the way and her hands grabbed his arms to steady him, but they fell anyway. The breath was knocked out of her with a “Huuuf,” and the back of her head hit the deck plating.
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
“uhh” he muffled sitting up on his arms, “Are you ok?” he asked while still laying on top of her, he was more worried about her head that where he was currently positioned.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityHer eyes were slightly dialted before she squinted them shut against the throbbing. “Hit my head. Bulk heads are hard.”
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
Aron moved to the side and stood holding out his hand while pulling a nearby stool and helping her too it. “Lets have a look” he said pulling out his tricorder, activating it he let it sweep across her head will he checked her eyes for signs of a concussion.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityNavale took his hand as she stood. The room swam a bit as she sat down on the stool. She batted his hands away as he started running a tricorder over her. “I’m fine.” She was not, the tricorder said so. Mild concussion, nothing serious, but she had one. “The doctors here get bored easily. They see you fretting and I’ll be confined to a biobed for a month.”
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
He was looking at her eyes more than the tri-corder he could see rhe conclusion. “You have a mild concussion” he said confirming on the tri corder. He liked to do physical check sometimes you did not have equipment. “With pretty eyes like those I might just put you there myself.” He said with a chuckle. He pulled a small cold pack out of his medical pouch. “Here” he noted, this can wait, let me walk you back to your quarters, you should get some rest” he noted.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityNavale chuckled quietly. “Oh that’s a good line. I like it.” She took the ice pack and put it against her head. “Ugh, you do realize if I leave my shift, I have to tell the chief why? Then she will send me to medical. I’m okay, really. I’ve had worse.” Her head was starting to do that disorienting pounding throb, but she had had worse.
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
He looked at her, tilting his head sideways. “Truth, is not a pickup line, and besides I’m a medic I can clear you with the chief, you just need rest” he noted. She was fun he thought, feisty.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa Security“Ugh great coils, you medical people are everywhere. You are supposed to be in blue so I can hide,” she chuckled quietly. “No no nope,” she slightly popped the ‘p’. “You go tell her and then I get sent to counseling because I have to explain how I got into another accident while working on something simple.” She set the ice back against her head and bit back a wince. She was going to have a bump. “Come on, can’t you just pretend I didn’t hit my head?”
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
He thought about it,”well im off duty for the day, so I guess I can stay with you while.you.work, but” he said with a smirk.” One if you get nauseous and sick we take you to your quarters”
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityNavale rolled her eyes, “Now I know it was a line. You’re going to shadow me all day and then walk me home?” She grinned but reached for the pieces she had quickly moved aside.
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
He smiled. “Only if you get sick, but I guess I can walk you home if it would make you feel better, and you can make me dinner for all my hard working watching you all day” he said finding a seat so she could work.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityShe laughed loudly, her eyes crinkling in a slight wince from her head. “Or you could watch me out of sense of responsibility since you are the one who fell on me.” She pulled an old fashioned magnifying lamp over and leaned over, replacing the small parts in the grav locks. “Also, I’m a horrible cook, so that might be dangerous. I know how to order from a replicator though.”
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
he laughed, it was a low gutteral thing. “I only know how to cook trout, eggs and steak” he noted. “Do you like to fish?” he asked thinking about the hikes into the remote lakes back home.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityHer head was bent over the glass her hands barely moving as she placed the small pieces. “To fish?” she asked puzzled. “I’ve eaten fish. I enjoy it. What is ‘to fish’?”
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
“You know, fishing, catching fish?” he asked. She was certianly interesting and a lot of fun to banter with.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityNavale’s head turned toward him, her furrowed brow making her brow etchings deeper. She studied him for a moment. The image of him standing in water trying to catch a fish like one would try to catch a hyper cat made her grin. The image of her attempting to do so made her laugh, her whole body shake. “Why?” she took a breath, “Why would I want to try and catch a fish?”
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
He laughed guessing that she was unaware of the process. He decided to play on it. “Its very relaxing, being one with nature, the fog lifting off the lake in the morning in a cool misty embrace, and casting your rod and hooking a fish” he said longing to go climbing again.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityNavale wasn’t sure that Calder wasn’t making some innuendo, but he wasn’t sure he was either. Either way, she didn’t care. “I’m not sure about the fishing thing, but the nature sounds great. Didn’t have a lot of that where I grew up.”
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
I love all things nature” he noted, “and doing just about anything in it. Climbing, hiking, bike riding, skiing , boating.” he could list for days, he was not fond of being couped up in the ship. “How about you what do you like to do in your spare time?” he asked
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa Security“I love nature. All of it. The beautiful and the extreme.” She snapped the case around the first grav lock and opened started on the second one. “I’ll try anything once. The more unusual and risky and wild the better.” She laughed softly. “It tends to get me into trouble.”
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
Calder smiled a rather sinister grin, “I’m the same, sounds like you and I are going to be a bad influence on each other” he shift back a little in his seat to get comfortable. “I’m planning on going free climbing on Oed V when I get some shore leave” he noted. “It’s going to be a rush!”
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa Security“Free climb?” She paused and closed her eyes a moment, letting the throbbing subside. “Like without safety gear? I’ve done some wall climbing, but I’ve never done that.”
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
“Well it’s not for amatures for sure, there is safty gear, we clamp in with temp safty to take breaks but,, there is something about not having a safty net that is very freeing” he said with a grin. “I climb the other way too but it’s a little easy” he noted
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa Security“Sort of like zero G repairs without mag boots. Did a lot of climbing as a kid, but not like what you are talking about. Dangerous, but if you fell you didn’t go far. Climbing scrap heaps.” Navale turned back to the second grav lock and leaned over the magnifying light. She carefully removed the damaged pieces one at a time.
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
“That sound interesting, what draws you to tinkering with things?” he asked looking around for a replicator. He was thirsty and did not want to leave her alone at least not yet
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityThe corner of her lips twitched upward. “Necessity. We didn’t have much growing up. Coridan is rich, but it doesn’t trickle down. What we had was old and broken. There was no replacements and no extra parts. I learned how to piece things together and make them work.”
“Sounds rough? At least it left you with the ability to be really creative with what you have to work with” he smiled
“It was, but we didn’t know it at the time. It was just the way things were. It was hard at times, but we all had each other.” It wasn’t a time of her life Navale really liked to talk about. She hadn’t known any different, but she’d known on a deeper level that it was wrong. That life shouldn’t be that way. Getting into Star Fleet had changed a lot. Mostly allowing her to move her mother somewhere better, healthier, safer.
“So why security?” Everyone had reasons.
There was a small replicator on the wall behind her.
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
Calder shook his head “Not really sure, I was a trained medic buy the time I got there, but somehow landed in security” he said. “I don’t really remember how but once in I started getting the risky assignments because I had medical training.” he noted
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa Security“Oh? Where did you train?” she asked. She paused again, letting her eyes close and the pounding to subside just a bit before going back to work.
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
He got a little solum. “I grew up on Anchorage Station, a small medical triage orbital over Talos IV. It was remote and rough, I started training basic medical when I was 11” he noted. ” he said, “There was an explosion during a zero G training exercise when I was nine, I got to my friend and stabilized him. I was nine, just kinda stuck from there” he noted.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa Security“I’m sorry. That sounds rough.” It wasn’t a platitudes but genuine. “So why not go into medical? Why security who happens to be a medic?”
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
He shook his head, “It just kinda happened that way, I did not want to be stuck in a medbay, I wanted to be in the mud and burning ship hulls saving lives.” he said “I wanted to make a difference where seconds mattered, I was a naïve want but it has let me down a very unique path” he noted.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa Security“Nothing wrong with that,” Huzzen grinned. “As long as you like the path you are on and where it leads, it doesn’t matter.” She snapped the back onto the second grav anchor. “Alright, let’s try these.” She stood up, too quickly, eager to check her work. The room spun and the table rattled as she grabbed it for balance.
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
Calder stood and was at her side fairly quickly .”You ok?” he asked not really paying attention to the the bed. He was like this, always looking out for people it often got him in trouble and would very likely get him killed someday.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityWhoa where did he come from? Wasn’t he across the room? Navale felt like she was swaying on a collapsing building. “I think the bulkheads are giving way,” she said with not enough urgency in her voice.
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
Calder took her by the waist and lifted her back onto her seat, he was very strong, much stronger than he looked the deceptive slender tight corded muscle from climbing was hard to weigh. “Easy now, you rest and tell me what to do!” he smiled looking at her eyes and pulling out his tri-corder again making a quick scan.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityOh that sudden movement didn’t help. Navale held her breath a moment as a wave of nausea hit her. The tricorder showed what Calder already knew. She had a concussion and insisting she work on such delicate work wasn’t helping her.
After a moment she laughed, then groaned. “That’s just my luck. I get permission to order a good looking security guard around, and I’m too dizzy to come up with anything.”
Then she really groaned. “I’m sorry Lt. That was totally inappropriate of me.” Her words slurred a bit but that was more because she thought she might be sick. Maybe she should have gone to her quarters.
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
“Why don’t you steady yourself a minute, and i’ll escourt you to your quarters. ” he said with a smile .”And no need to apologise, I’m great a taking orders.” he said trying to ease the situation a little. “Just two people having a bit of fun, no harm done” he noted.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityNavale started to nod and thought better of it. “Those should be fixed. You can attach them and try your tent out.” She kept a hand on the table as an anchor. It stopped the room from spinning.
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
“I wont need to for a few months, lets get you back to your quarters so you can rest” he said
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa Security“Ugh,” she was going to have to report to Medical to be cleared. But Navale knew quite well she was wrong and Calder was right. She hit her head harder than she thought. “Alright.” She told him where her quarters were.
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
“You know come to think of it I could use some maintenane on the replicator in my quarters,” he said seeing if she would pick up the request, she could rest just as well in his room.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa Security“Oh? I can take a look,” she offered. “It’s the least I can do.” She paused, grabbing a kit before leaving the room.”
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
He smiled and stayed next to her, ready to catch her if she went down. They moved slow through the hall, him asking simple questions as if she was guiding him around the ship. When they reached his quarters he opened up his room. It was bare, he had not had time to unpack. there were a few pictures sitting leaning against the floor. “Help your self to the sofa and rest. Can I get you something to drink?” he asked
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa SecurityNavale gave him an odd look. Something about that offer didn’t seem right, but she moved over to the couch and sat down. That change in height made her dizzy again. Yep, yep she certainly had hit her head hard. She remembered when she’d done that as a kid. Ugh, she hated the feeling. Her mom had been so worried. Despite what Navale had said to Calder she did NOT, in fact, hit her head often. But bumps and bruises were part of engineering. Trying to crawl around in the tubes and sparks and flares and heat and dropped tools on unsuspecting toes. She closed her eyes, with her head back, “Um, just water.”
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
Calder smiled and moved to the replicator, he requested a water and some coffee, and an cold back. He moved over and sat her water down on the coffee table and handed her the Ice pack. “Here you go, ” he said as he sat down in the chair just to the side of the Sofa. “Feel free to stretch out and rest a bit if you want, I have some writing to catchup on” he noted.
Aaron Calder
USS Ogawa Security
Navale took the cold back and when she set it against her head she groaned at the instant relief, and it made her very tired. She didn’t say anything for several minutes, perhaps nodding off.
Lt. Huzzen, Engineer
