<Snip>The Doctor stood in the middle of the bed on the left and the nurse was on the right. With a nod from Alexis the group moved off towards the Ogawa.
OOC: Anyone else want to jumpin and help out with NEs from the Outpost, feel free!
Dira joined them, needing to head back to the ship herself while she waited for word about the investigation. She felt impatient for info but knew better than to make things more difficult for Haven and the Outpost’s COS.
All was going well until they reached a corridor before the one leading up to the airlock. Two phaser blasts seemed to come out of nowhere. One hit the nurse on the chest and the other strick the doctor in the head. Both collapsed instantly.
McCandless, Head Nurse
Alexis heard the whine half a second before she saw the nurse fall. She threw herself over the top of John and then saw the doctor was down. That was it, how did she get involved in these situations? Solomon was going to put her in a bubble. How annoying.
Riggs and Sam’to sprung into action with Crewman Santo, covering the patient and other staff, while Riggs let off a shot in the direction the blasts had come from and took cover.
The shots brought valuable time for Dira and the others to take cover as the assaulters ducked behind cover.
Myqian was thankfully quick to react and helped cover her crew while she tapped her commbadge. =/\=Captain Myqian to Outpost Ops and Ogawa Bridge. We’re unders attack. Ten metres from our airlock at Berth Three. Two down!=/\=
Captain Myqian, CO
A quick look of regret at the nurse and doctor and then she was pushing the gurney into the corridor, trying to get John out of the way and closer to any reinforcements that might arrive at the captain’s call. She glanced down at John looking for any futher injury and then kept her eyes forward and her ears focused.
Lt. Cmdr. Kane, AMO
As soon as Alexis moved with John shots fired in their direction. One narrowly missed John and another signed a piece of Alexis’ hair. A conduit exploded. Whoever was attacking them was intending to kill. Glancing at John he was unscathed. For now. The attackers continued to fire and then more joined them. Four in total. Two from the front and two behind.
McCandless Head Nurse
Alexis moved quickly down the corridor, or she tried. “Solomon,” her voice dropped to a subvocal level so her ear piece would pick up the sound and transmit. At least she had learned to be a little stealthy. No need to tell these people she was calling for specific reinforcement. The strain in her voice was enough to snap her husband out of anything he was doing. “We’re being fired at,” her voice disappeared as it went into normal registers, but the earpiece picked up the unmistakable whine of phaser fire passing right beside her ear. She shoved John’s gurney into a corner, wedging him as best as she could, and put herself between him and the four oncoming individuals. It was stupid. Very Very Stupid. But she didn’t have much of a choice. “We’re surrounded, four at least. 10 meters from the airlock. They’re after McCandless.” And her, but she was pretty sure that was because she was with John and nothing else.
Lt. Cmdr. Kane, AMO
There was no response to her call, but less than thirty seconds later there was the unmistakable whine of a transporter arrival somewhere outside of her vision. It was then she heard the distinct voice of one on very angry Solomon Kane. “I’m gonna gut all of you sonofabitches!!!” was all she heard before a lot of phaser fire erupted down the corridor.
Alexis shouldn’t smile. Really, she knew that. The situation was dangerous, but the sound of absolute rage that echoed down the corridor told her one thing. She and her patient were going to be fine. Maybe a bit bumped and bruised, but fine.
Outside of her view, the heavily tattooed and wild-haired ‘R&D Chief’ appeared in the middle of the passage way with a phaser rifle that he thumbed the firing stud of so quickly it might have seemed to be a rapid fire phaser cannon. His face was a mask of rage and fixated hatred directed at the unknown assailants who had dared to attack his wife.
Kane, R&D
The sound and smell of rapid phaser fire filled the corridor. Alexis hit the control on the gurney and lowered it to the ground. Then she curled her body over his to protect him from any stray fire. It wasn’t perfect but it would make them a smaller target.
Lt. Cmdr. Kane, AMO
The phaser fire from the unknown assailants stopped abruptly as Kane appeared firing wildly. One went down with a thud.
There was a brief pause and the silence was deafening. The only sound was the occasional beep from John’s bed. But then suddenly a voice echoed around the corridor, it was deep but human.
“I think that’s enough frightening for one day, no? Why don’t we strike a deal?” The voice sounded hopeful.McCandless, Head Nurse
“I think you’re under some false assumptions here, given you’re the one firing on medical staff on a Starfleet facility,” Dira said. She wasn’t going to just cave and do whatever some random unknown person said just because they were trying to appear reasonable.
=/\= Haven to Captain Myqian. It looks like our Head Nurse has a substantial bounty on his head. I am going to send more security to his location. Have we transported him to our ship yet? =/\=
Haven, CoS
Dira dropped her voice so it was barely a whisper. =/\=Ten metres from airlock. Under fire. Backup needed.=/\=
“How about you surrender before you find the charges against you escalating?” Myqian called out to their attacker.
Captain Myqian, CO
There was a pause as though the person was thinking.
“From where I stand, you’re the ones on the backfoot. We have you surrounded. Station Security are too incompetent to respond to anything quickly.” There was a single phaser blast from the direction of the voice and hit the wall near Dira’s face.
“See, we have you dead to rights. Now, howabout you hand over the patient and we’ll leave the rest of you alone. You have 15 seconds.” The voice stated simply, it was a male voice and he had a British accent.Lt. John McCandless, Head Nurse
<Bump>
As Zoi and Tom had run through corridors to the airlock area, they had met up with other security from both the Ogawa and Toms team and split up to flank the assailants. Zoi moved on point, silently and quickly along the corridor to slip up behind the man with the British accent, phaser in hand. She knew Kane was a loud distraction. Others of the teams spread, taking aim at each of the assailants and waiting for the signal.
“That’s ten seconds longer than the detonator on these plasma grenades.” rang out the voice of the madman in their midst. “And don’t think for one second I won’t do it. If we’re gonna die, then we die my way… not yours.” A phaser bolt rang out and struck the wall near the British-accented speaker. “Ask anyone in here. I don’t f^<€ing bluff.” As if to add emphasis to his words, the unmistakable sound of a grenade powering up could be heard. “Can’t spend what you aren’t alive to collect, jackass. And my thumb comes off this safety, we all get to find out if there is life after death. Now leave, or die here. I really don’t give a damn which. “
Kane, R&D
The man laughed, it was cold and empty bereft of any humour. One could picture the man smirking and leaning nonchalantly on the wall with his arms folded.
“Go on then tough guy. Do it. Our bounty is wanted dead or alive, preferably alive but they’ll take dead too.” It was a battle of stubbornness now, soon they would find out who was going to break the quickest.Over her dead body. Alexis really hoped it didn’t come to that, but she wasn’t going to let them take John. She kept her body curled over him, quietly pulling her tricorder out and checking John’s vitals. She didn’t want to risk transporting him, but at this point it might be the only way. She wondered if she should confirm that Solomon really was crazy enough to kill them all. Then she decided it was better to keep quiet and not draw attention to herself of John.
Lt. Cmdr. Kane, AMO
John’s vitals remained low but stable, fortunately the bounty hunters hadn’t been very accurate and the bed, and John remained intact. The monitors beeped away dutifully doing their job.
Dira stayed crouched behind at the gurney with Alexis and John. What the hell was going on that John had a bounty on his head? She could negotiate if necessary, but there was little reason to do so given their assailants were out of blood and she wasn’t giving them John.
She caught the eye of Riggs, who was crouched in a nook ahead of them, not far from where Kane beamed in. She held up four fingers and then pointe to Solomon.
Riggs moved just enough to be visible to the R&D specialist and held up 4 fingers.
Satisfied they had the lay of the land as it were, she turned to Alexis, speaking very softly. “I’m going to check on the other two, stay here with John.”
Alexis didn’t say it, and the Captain didn’t see it, but Alexis just gave her a look. Did the captain really think she was going to abandon her patient to be killed? No way in hell. Alexis checked the John’s vitals again. She may have to risk trying to transport him. She might have to try a neural link with herself to keep him stable enough.”
Lt. Cmdr. Kane, AMO
Creeping out from the gurney and knowing Kane had a better view of the situation, she could see where the doctor and nurse lay. Given the weaponry and settings, she was trying to be hopeful that they were still alive, but knew the chances were slim, especially if they didn’t get help soon. “Cover me,” she said just loud enough in Solomon’s direction as she pointed to the downed station medical staff.
Captain Myqian, CO
Kane certainly didn’t disappoint and she had to smile knowing she had barely contained chaos on her side. It could be so easy to say something witty before shooting, but Zoi wasn’t about giving people chances to surprise her or her team. She simply shot first. Asking questions could happen in a secure location. Her priority was the well being of her crew. Her volley was immediately followed with her team shooting to stun as well. Zoi’s only focus was the British man. She simply trusted her team and Toms to take the others out.
Zoi Haven, CoS
The British man sighed impatiently and then spoke up.
“Well, tough guy? I think it’s been longer than 10 seconds. Now, I’ve been more than generous here. I’ll give you all one more chance to give up your patient and then things will....” He never had a chance to finish his sentence as he was hit in the back by the volley from Zoi. He collapsed to the ground with a thump. There were three others with him, a Klingon another Nausican and another human. At the sound of the volley the human had a chance to spin round, but she was hit in the chest and she collapsed.“Ok!” came the flat response from the R&D Chief. The next thing heard by anyone was the unmistakable sound of metal on metal rolling as not one… not two… but four grenades rolled around the corner and stopped just short of the kidnappers. There was half a heartbeat of silence…
and then the modified flash-bangs went off.
An ear-ahattering BANGBANGBANGBANG!!! went off as the passageway was filled not just with light bright enough to fry optics; but the aluminum powder mixed with just a hint of blue phosphorous dust created a localized fireworks show that- had it been outside and several hundred feet in the air- would have been quite pleasant to watch.
Tom split from Zoi’s group with three other officers. Than ran round in the opposite direction aiming to cut off the other group at the other end of the corridor. They arrived just in time to fire at the other group, a Human a Ferengi and a Nausican. Tom shot the Human hitting him in the middle of his back. The other Officers shots found their marks too. Tom sighed with relief and moved up the corridor. He then turned part way looking at his team.
“Looks like we’re all cle…” His voice was cut off, he tried to talk but he couldn’t make a sound. Confused he looked down and saw a blade sticking out of his chest. His feet felt weak and he lost his balance, falling to the ground. The Officers roared with anger as they fired at the human who had started to run away. Three phaser blasts hit him in the chest all at once and left a hole where his stomach should be. They roared and screamed for help as they made their way to Tom.
“Officer down! We need urgent medical attention!” They screamed as Tom lay on the ground, blood pooling out of his mouth.McCandless, Head Nurse
Alexis couldn’t leave John. She grabbed the gurney and pushed it ahead of her. She looked at Zoi, “Get him to the ship he’s stable! Dr. Walker will take him.” She grabbed the med and hurried toward the down officers. “Solomon!” Her voice carried orders, not panic. She needed another pair of hands. She dropped to her knees over the fallen man, flipping open her tricorder to get an idea of the damage, not that she needed it. She pressed her hand over the wound while opening the med kit with the other. She pulled out bandaging and packed the wound. It was too deep for a vascular pad. She had to repair the deeper damage first.
Lt. Cmdr. Kane, AMO
Kane saw the officer fall and he made his way to his side, firing down the passage to ward off anyone who might think doubling back was a good idea. He knelt next to Tom and began to do his assessment. “Blood is pooling, no arterial bleed. We need to clear the airway.” he said calmly and without emotion.
Kane, R&D
Bump
Looking at Tom they would be able to tell that the blade had pierced his heart. Blood was everywhere and had begun to pool out of his mouth. His chest was heaving and he looked up at Kane’s face.
“Where’s Commander Zoi?” He asked weakly, he was almost gone, it was clear he wanted to speak to her one final time.McCandless (Head Nurse)
Tom wasn’t going to make it until they got to sickbay. She reached into her kit and pulled out a portable Stasis Field Generator She gave one of the devices to Solomon, “Place it on the bottom of his feet,” she placed a matching one on the top of his head.
Once in place she activated the field monitoring the readings to make sure the suspension was stable.
