Dev moved down the corridor at a measured pace, her bootfalls soft against the polished deck. Surprisingly, deck 5 was quieter than she was expecting—given that the Ogawa’s medical suite occupied nearly a quarter of the floor. The usual traffic of a starship corridor was absent, replaced by a clinical stillness and the faint hum of biobeds and filtration systems.Unlike every other ship Dev had served on, there was no central sickbay, not on the Ogawa. Here, medicine didn’t happen behind one door—it spread out like roots, interwoven, specialized. A network of treatment rooms, analysis bays, surgical theaters. Designed for mercy in motion.
She paused at the entrance to the reception area. A soft chime sounded as she stepped inside.
The faint scent of antiseptic lingered beneath something floral—synthesized, but pleasant.
Dev inclined her head politely. “Lieutenant Commander Dev Siobhan, reporting for boarding medical.”
Her tone was crisp, but not cold. She didn’t dislike medical exams—she simply didn’t see the point of unnecessary ceremony. Starfleet already had everything they needed in her file: vitals, performance scores, a lifetime of scan records. But protocol was protocol.
She folded her hands behind her back, waiting to be directed further. Eyes scanning the room, taking quiet measure of the space—clean lines, efficient layout, everything in its place.
Exactly how she preferred it.

U.S.S. OgawaA Vulcan nurse walked over, “Hello Lt Cmdr. How can we assist you today?” he asked.
Lt. Cmdr. Kane, AMO
Dev turned slightly to face the approaching nurse, offering a polite nod in return.
“I’m here for my boarding physical,” she replied. “Standard clearance procedures.”
Her gaze remained steady, though not unkind. There was no impatience—just efficiency. The sooner this was done, the sooner she could return to work.
“If there’s a preferred sequence, I’m happy to follow it.”
She folded her hands loosely in front of her, waiting to be led deeper into the suite.

U.S.S. Ogawa“Right this way. I will get your vitals, and then I will get Dr. Kane for you.” He led her to a biobed and flipped it on. “Just have a seat.”
Lt. Cmdr. Kane, AMO
Dev eased herself onto the biobed, the sterile hum of the field flickering to life beneath her. She rested her hands lightly on her knees, posture straight but relaxed.
“Vitals first, then Dr. Kane,” she repeated softly, more to acknowledge the flow than to question it. A small, almost imperceptible nod followed. “Efficient.”
Her gaze flicked once to the readouts as the biobed began its automatic calibration. The faintest crease touched her brow at the familiar sequence of beeps and data streams—but it smoothed quickly.
“I assume you run half the crew through this ritual every week,” she said, tone even but carrying the barest suggestion of dry humor. “At least I’m a straightforward case.”
Her eyes returned to the Vulcan nurse, steady and unhurried, content to let the process take its course.
