Arriving at the Command Centre, Cori moved around the outside to the starboard door. She briefly tossed Royal a look that invited a conversation later and stepped into the access corridor to the rest of the deck.

Pressing the chime of the Captain’s Ready Room, Dalton drew in a steadying breath as she fought the urge to tap her fingers on her thigh. Reasonable and compassionate or not, she wasn’t expecting Myqian to be entirely thrilled at the turn of events. “Here we go,” she said softly to Dev.

Dev’s mouth curved just enough to register as a smile, though it was tempered by the steady calm she carried into unfamiliar ground.

“Indeed,” she said quietly, matching Cori’s tone. “Best to step in with both feet.”

Her posture shifted subtly as they waited—chin lifted, shoulders set—not defensive, but prepared. Whatever the captain’s mood, Dev meant to meet it with clarity and composure.

The same lyrical voice sounded. “Come in.”

An office space said something about the occupant and Dira’s was no different. To the right of the entrance was the captain’s desk, a couple chairs for guests, and a replicator tucked into the corner, while a sitting area took up the space in front of the an expanse of windows opposite the main door. The sitting area comprised of a navy blue sofa that had a gentle curve to it. On each side of it, nestled between the windows and where it curved out was a side table with a potted plant. One had trails of forked leaves and the other had tall dark green stems lined with alternating heart shaped leaves that had a blue hue.

Other small touches had been added that were Dira’s. Aside from the plants, there was a round and squat pot in a deep blue colour with sweeps of white and green paint. It sat on the shelf behind the desk, along with a picture of an older brown skinned woman with a heart shape face, natural black kinky curls not unlike Dira’s, and the dark eyes of a Betazoid. On the other side of the pot was a brown skinned Haliian man with a greying moustache, short dark hair and a receding hairline that made his forehead ridges and bulges more prominent.

Other indicators of the woman and her position were dotted throughout the space. The lingering smell of coffee from a mug on the desk (possibly long gone cold). The empty plate on the coffee table in the sitting area, forgotten in a distracted moment of multi-tasking. The many PADDs on her desk, organized in small piles to the sides, away from her active work area. Her computer screen facing her that had a small framed photo to the side and out of the way, its image visible only to herself.

Her obsidian eyes gazed at the officers and Dira rose to her feet. She was not overly tall, nor was she short- in fact, her and Dev were about the same height. Stepping around the desk with an ease, Captain Dira Myqian took up space all at the same time as she radiated warmth. A coy smile played on her lips as this dark eyes glinted. Pointing her index finger at the pair, she gestured with that finger at them in a circle. “I was wondering how long it would be before this little reunion happened.” It was, at least in her mind, inevitable. For other, they might surprised she knew, but then again, it was a small detail to recognize the USS Saracen from Dev’s file and note that she had not only bene there at the same time as Dalton, but been her DH. Dev would have known about the tragic accident that claimed the young scientists body.

Captain Myqian, CO

Dev’s answer came with a faint lift of her brows and the smallest quirk at one corner of her mouth.

“Some currents are stronger than others, Captain,” she said evenly, her tone respectful but not without its dry edge. “And some are simply… inevitable.”

Cori couldn’t help but smirk at Dev’s statement. She was rather curious what the CSO would make of their captain. She didn’t know Myqian all that well, but every interaction thus far had been reassuring.

She let that stand as acknowledgment—of Myqian’s insight, of the history unspoken between her and Dalton—and then inclined her head in greeting.

“Lieutenant Dalton thought it best we speak with you together. I agreed.”

“A wise suggestion,” Dira said, casting a brief and tiny smile at Dalton.

She extended her hand to the captain.

“Lieutenant Commander Dev Siobhan, your new CSO. I’m pleased to make your acquaintance.”

Myqian took her hand and held it for a small moment before giving a small shake. “Welcome to the Ogawa, a perpetual place of healing.” Letting go, she gestured to the sitting area. “Come, I don’t stand much on formalities and despite the potential seriousness of this conversation, I think it best we be comfortable.”

Moving to the long sofa, Dira sat at one end, turning herself to face the other two women. She focused on Dalton. “You crossed my mind earlier, and I made a mental note to check in. How are you adjusting, especially with this new occurrence?”

Captain Myqian, CO

Cori sat on the other end, giving Dev space in the middle and the curve of the couch allowed her to see the others easily. Drawing in a deep breath, she nodded, breaking into a genuine smile. “You know, some days are still weird, and I’m seeing Dr. Grayson regularly, but…” She paused, trying to figure out the best way to explain everything in her head. “I forget, some times. I wake up in my quarters and panic. It’s just a brief moment where I feel disoriented, but then I remember that my physical presence is not a projection.” She reached up and pressed her fingers to her carotid and smiled. “Just have to feel my heart beat to know the truth.”

Dalton shrugged. “There’s no use lying to a telepath”-she smirked at Myqian-“so I will say that that some days I am overwhelmed by the sheer possibilities that are open to me now. So I’m using Petrakos’ suggestion and curating a list of things I want to experience and using that as a starting point.”

She turned her gaze on Dev. “When I walked into Commander Dev’s office, it was surreal. We have more than just a common history, we share a… pain point. Which is why I made the decision to bring her into the loop on my new body. She’s the only one here who knew me before the accident.” She shrugged one shoulder as she gazed back at Dira. “It made little sense to give her our public version of events. Not after everything. But I realize that that is a risk and I understand if those in the know aren’t thrilled with someone else knowing. I think, I hope though, they will understand the need.”

Dev settled into the curve of the sofa, hands resting loosely atop her knee. Her gaze moved from Dalton to the captain, steady and measured.

“You have my word, Captain—what’s shared between us stays between us,” she said, her tone neither perfunctory nor overemphatic, but anchored with the quiet certainty of someone used to safeguarding more than just data. “I understand the sensitivity. I won’t speak of it outside those who already know.”

Myqian gave a slight nod, easily sussing out the truth behind Dev’s words.

A faint crease formed at the bridge of her nose as she added, “And I appreciate the trust, Lieutenant. I don’t take that lightly.”

Her eyes lingered on Dalton for a beat, then returned to Myqian. “Whatever role I can play in supporting her adjustment, I’ll fill it. Quietly, if that’s what serves best.”

She breathed in, filling her lungs and allowing a space of silence between them all. Myqian was not one to be rushed. “Secrecy in terms of the actual events surrounding Cori coming to be here are necessary, but we have a more public story for a reason. The story everyone else gets, should it ever come up is that she was rescued from a lab already in the new body. She woke up that way.” Her dark eyes glittered with amusement knowing that the deception was unexpected (especially from her) but also it concealed the sheer audacity the entire plan had required. “As far as anyone knows, Cori came to us to heal adn adjust to her new circumstances, which is actually not really all that far from the truth, don’t you think?” she said, shifting her gaze to Dalton.

Captain Myqian, CO

Cori chuckled and bobbed her head back and forth. “More or less. Everyone else doesn’t need to know the crazy circumstances and I agree it’s safer that way. For now, I’m just happy to take small steps. I’m not in any rush, though sometimes I have to remind myself that I can waste time. My life is far more finite than it was before.”

Satisfied that she had done what she felt was necessary, Cori rose to her feet. “Disclosure aside, Commander Dev and I are going to slowly work through our common… history together and I’m glad for the chance to do so. But I suspect, you two need to talk some more and I should get back to my shadowing. Today I’m in the bio med lab.” She all-too-blue eyes lit up more. “Lieutenant Carrington has no idea the far more interesting subject will be sitting right next to her. Permission to be dismissed?”

At Myqian’s smirk and nod, Cori gave Dev a nod. “Tomorrow evening, as planned?” she said lightly, exciting for their dance plans.
