Dev moved down the corridor at a measured pace, her bootfalls soft against the polished deck. Surprisingly, deck 5 was quieter than she was expecting—given that the Ogawa’s medical suite occupied nearly a quarter of the floor. The usual traffic of a starship corridor was absent, replaced by a clinical stillness and the faint hum of biobeds and filtration systems.

Unlike every other ship Dev had served on, there was no central sickbay, not on the Ogawa. Here, medicine didn’t happen behind one door—it spread out like roots, interwoven, specialized. A network of treatment rooms, analysis bays, surgical theaters. Designed for mercy in motion.

She paused at the entrance to the reception area. A soft chime sounded as she stepped inside.

The faint scent of antiseptic lingered beneath something floral—synthesized, but pleasant.

Dev inclined her head politely. “Lieutenant Commander Dev Siobhan, reporting for boarding medical.”

Her tone was crisp, but not cold. She didn’t dislike medical exams—she simply didn’t see the point of unnecessary ceremony. Starfleet already had everything they needed in her file: vitals, performance scores, a lifetime of scan records. But protocol was protocol.

She folded her hands behind her back, waiting to be directed further. Eyes scanning the room, taking quiet measure of the space—clean lines, efficient layout, everything in its place.
