-^- Chief Sutret, NE Didn’t Do It asked me to tell you he didn’t do it. I’m not sure I believe him though, I think he did do it. I know for sure it wasn’t me who did it, anyway. NE Tattletale -^-

“What is he talking about…” Koria trailed off as the lights suddenly started to flash and alarms went off.

“What are they doing up there?” Koria asked no one as she ran for the master display board. It almost looked like the energy from the nebula was penetrating their shields, causing havoc with the ships systems.

“Modulate the shield frequency, block out as much as you can. Isolate critical systems to the core of the ship, and either cut off or ground any systems close to the hull. We need to stabilize the ship ASAP. Go!” Koria started calling out orders as she started isolating the warp core, the last thing they needed was a power spike causing it to have unintended catastrophic failure.

Lt Sutret - CE

“Aye Chief!” Huzzen called as she stepped over to the auxilary control panel. Her fingers tapped over the controls, rerouting power and cutting connections to the core systems to protect them.

Lt. Huzzen, Engineer

” Were you able to stabilize our systems?” Koria called out from her station. She has been able to isolate the warp core from whatever was creating the feedback, but she really hoped that they weren’t about to fly into whatever caused it.

Lt Sutret - CE

“I believe so, Chief,” Huzzan called, “I’m double checking everything, just to be sure it’s all isolated and there are no problems in those systems.”

Lt. Huzzen, Engineer

Despite the meticulous checking, the systems continued to fluctuate and malfunction. Fortunately, they’d caught it time to cut off the warp core from whatever was causing the systems to go haywire. Lights and consoles were still flickering.

GM Budgie

Navale glared at the interface screen as if it was a personal insult that it wasn’t cooperating. “It’s no good Chief. That’s not stopping the problem. Should we shutdown and restart?”

Lt. Huzzen, Engineer

“I doubt that the Captain will like that. What systems are we looking at having the worst of the issues?” Koria said as tried to bring up a list of major ship systems to see what the computer was calling out as their current status.

=/\=Bridge to Engineering. We have a medical emergency we are responding to and will need to enter the nebula. Things will get bumpy and we will need to reinforce external shields but also prepare for biohazard isolation.=/\=

=^=Bridge, we are seeing system fluctuations and malfunctions across the ship, I’m going to take a wild guess that either something in this nebula is the cause of that. I’m not sure how long we’ll be able to guarantee shields at this point.=^=

Huzzen scanned the readouts flashing across the screen looking for which systems were having the worst issues. Sometimes it was just a judgement call.

A scan of the systems showed that life support and the impulse engines were most effected.

GM Budgie

“Life support and impulse engines are the most severely affected, Chief,” Huzzan reported from her spot across the main control area.

Lt. Huzzen, Engineer

“Of course they are,” Koria said mumbling under her breath.

“Concentrate on life support, we are going to need it if we are entering a biohazard situation,” she said to Huzzan. “I’ll concentrate on keeping the impulse engines running.”

With a nod Koria turned and headed over to the impulse control console. She brought up the schematics of the impulse system. First thing, she needed to figure out what was, and was not acting up. Hopefully it wasn’t everything.

=/\=Can we pull power from non-essential areas and still maintain triage and biohazard protocols?=/\= Myqian asked, frustration starting to build but not that she let it show.

Navale worked quickly to try and reroute the life support power from the damaged/malfunctioning areas. Then she began a diagnostic to figure out what exactly was wrong. =/\=Huzzen to Work team 3. I need you to run the junctions for life support and see what’s wrong.=/\= It never hurt to have eyes on the problem.

=^=Aye L.T. We’re on it now.=^= Work team 3 responded and got to work, she would expect to hear back from them in a few minutes. The re-route was a success. The diagnostic showed that there was particle infiltration of the life support and impulse drive.... Huzzen could deduce that this was from the nebula.

=^=Standby.=^= Koria said as she slammed her hand down on the panel in front of her. What was going on, what was going on. As she scanned the readouts the results of a diagnostic popped up on her screen. Which was weird, she hadn’t specifically started one.

Navale waited for the chuef to reply to the captain and then gave her report. “Chief it’s particles from the nebula. They infiltrated the life support and impulse engines. I’ve successfully rerouted life support. Maybe we can reconfigure the deflector dish for the particles to keep them away, or try a different shield harmonic?”

“Why do they never listen when we tell them it’s a bad idea,” Koria grumbled as she worked.

Navale resisted the urge to laugh. Life would be boring if they listened, though she did agree with Sutret.

Pulling it up in front of her, she quickly scanned through it and saw why the computer had brought it to her attention. There was some particle infiltration into the impulse manifolds, and it was gunking up the system.

Hopefully there was an easy fix, and it would just be something that they would have to keep an eye on. With a quick few types, she sent the command to purge the impulse manifolds.

The computer ran the purge cycle. It took a few moments and the computer beeped when it was completed. The system showed it was clear of the infiltration.... for now. Life support was the next crucial system to fix.

“Alright what was your idea Lieutenant?”

“I was thinking we could reconfigure the deflector dish for the particles to keep them away, or try a different shield harmonic,” Huzzen said.

Lt. Huzzen, Engineer

An Engineer coughed as he siddled up to the Chief and Navale.
“That could work. Me and my team can lend a hand.” Thanible said. He worked in a team called the Z team. There were 4 of them and they had all worked together for years. There was Mr C, Thanible, Chase and Kirkdock.

GM Budgie

“Let’s start with the deflector. If we can push the particles out of our way first, it would make our life easier. I don’t want to count on shields, we are flying into an emergency medical situation, good chances that we’ll have to lower shields to use the transporter. We also need to look at shoring up the like support systems.”

As she talked Koria was setting up an alerts for the impulse engines for when they would have to purge them again.

“Aye Chief.” Thanible said and then turned to Huzzen.
“Let us know when you’re ready to get started.” He stated with a smile.

GM Budgie

“The sooner the better. The bridge isn’t waiting. Let’s go ” Huzzen said as she followed the team to deflector control.

Alerts set up, Koria turned her attention towards the shields. She pulled up what scan data they had on the particles in the nebula so far, in the hopes that it would give a clue to modifying the shields.

The nebula was 2 ly at its longest and the inner 1 ly was the most dense and turbulent. The nebula seemed on the surface to be a standard planetary nebula with evidence to suggest that there had been a second stellar remnant there, but there was no second remnant in the system. Additionally, there was hydrogen and helium present, but no carbon, oxygen and nitrogen. The metallicity seemed oddly low as well for a nebula of this type and size. The nova remnant present is also too new to have created the nebula itself, so the question is, where is the original remnant?

The rest of the danger of the nebula (eddies and what not) seemed to have been caused by something else. If they could maintain them power wise, they might need to rely on a stronger and more adaptive shield in order to handle the nebula’s odd makeup.
