John had spent the last couple of days relaxing by the pool engaging in his favourite pastime, reading. Well, trying to read anyway. It had mostly involved swimming and getting distracted. He’d indulged in a couple of drinks by the poolside but he felt that now was the time to take advantage of the opportunity while he had it. He had beamed up to the Outpost earlier in the day and had taken the time to scout out some viable options. He’d found the main bar straight away. That’ll do nicely. He thought to himself and smiled. He had made his way back to the ship and then to his quarters and got himself ready for the evening, making sure to attend to Garry. When the time came he gave her a pet and then left not before saying “I’ll see you later my love. Be good, you gorgeous cutie.” In his best cutsie voice (the one everyone makes around animals regardless of species). She meowed and looked almost disapproving at his leaving. John whistled to himself as he made his way to the bar on Outpost 42. He was wearing a navy blue blazer with a grey buttoned shirt, he had cream trousers on and a pair of brown leather shoes. He also wore a trilby, he had a penchant for hats. 10 minutes went by and he was at the entrance to the bar. He clapped his hands together, smiled and walked confidently in. He strode over to the barman, sat down on the bar stool and placed his order.
“Double single malt please. I’ll have a small jug of water to go with it too.” The Orion barkeeper nodded, a hint of respect in his eye, clearly John knew how to drink whiskey. A moment later and a glass and jug appeared. John smiled and placed a small drop of water into the whiskey glass and looked around.Lt. John McCandless, Head Nurse
A couple stools down was perhaps a familiar form. In fact, some might have even done a double-take, depending on how used they were to seeing a certain captain off-duty.
The reality was that Commander Myqian had been seen around in off-duty clothes, but it was more rare for people to see Captain Myqian out of uniform. Part of it was opportunity, and the rest were simply the circumstances and timing of her promotion to CO. She just hadn’t had many opportunities to actually relax off-duty somewhere that wasn’t her quarters or with Zoi.
Her cropped black curls had grown out in recent weeks, though she still kept her hair short for ease of maintenance. She wore a brown satin top that was cropped at her navel and had a twisted front, and it sat over top of a pair of high waisted slim black pants in a stretchy material that had a very subtle sheen. The outfit was complete with black high heels and a large gold necklace made of a set of interlocking rings.
She was half way through a glass of a vibrant green liquor. As John took in the other occupants, Dira felt the attention sweep over her and she turned her head. She gave the head nurse a bemused half-smirk. “Busted,” she joked, seeming far more relaxed than anyone had seen her lately. Though that could have been the result of whatever she was drinking.
Captain Myqian, CO
John was mid drink and nearly spat it out with surprise when he saw the Captain. He took a gulp and managed to keep it down. Then he smiled. It was odd to see the Captain in plain clothes, out of uniform especially looking so relaxed.
“Captain! I wasn’t expecting you here.” He stated and then gave a wink, “don’t worry your secret is safe with me.” He chuckled and stood picking up the glass and small jug.
“Care for some company?” He asked, hoping she’d agree. He wanted to get to know the Captain more.Lt. John McCandless, Head Nurse
She gave a nod. “Sure, why not.”
John smiled, nodded and sat down.
“Thank you Captain.”Dira took a generous sip of her green drink and gazed at him intently. “Sometimes a captain just needs to go somewhere where she’s not automatically a captain. It’s called hiding in plain sight,” she said with a smirk.
Captain Myqian, CO
John took a sip of his whiskey and inclined his head.
“Indeed! Well, how long did it take to get found out?” He replied smiling.Lt John McCandless, Head Nurse
“An hour and half,” she said with a grin. “I had dinner elsewhere and then found this place.” Dira wiggled her glass. “This is my second, but I’m taking my time. It’s hard to be truly leisurely on the ship these days. I’m glad to see you out and about as well.”
Captain Myqian, CO
John chuckled.
“That is quite a while to be fair.” He stated, he could certainly empathise. He thought it must be hard for the Captain and how hard it must be to relax knowing that she could be called on at any time.
“I can imagine it must be hard to get any free time on the ship, if there is such a thing for a Captain! I thought I’d take the opportunity to get some ‘off ship’ time while the opportunity has presented itself. Its likely we won’t have this opportunity for a while. If that’s your second, I’ve got some catching up to do.” He replied with a grin, he finished off his drink in one swig and motioned for another. A bar worker dutifully provided another glass.
“Is there anything you do you for fun in your free time Captain?” He asked, he realised he didn’t really know much about her and he wanted to take this opportunity to get to know her better.Lt. John McCandless, Head Nurse
She snorted. Dira had had just enough to drink that she was feeling a little loose, less inhibited. “Now? Or before? Before I used to do all sorts of things. I grew up with an artist father, so I was always playing with different art forms. Though I liked the performing arts the best as I got older. But these days I don’t get as much time for that. When I do get downtime, I want to spend it with my partner, or I’m doing things like yoga or mediation to unwind. Those take precedence.”
Captain Myqian, CO
John listened intently to the Captain and nodded when appropriate.
“Very interesting, I’m always fascinated by art. How someone can paint a picture, it boggles my mind. I can’t draw or paint to…” He was cut of shortly by the barman, a gruff round, middle aged, bald man with a long beard.
“Excuse me sir, there’s someone outside who wants to see you. Urgently.” John frowned.
“Excuse me Captain. I’ll be just a moment.” He rose and followed the barman through the bar.Dira also frowned, and she half-wanted to tell John to ask for more info, but she was well into her second drink and it was not synthehol she was drinking.
“What’s this about?” John asked him but the man shrugged and continued to walk. John’s frown deepened and his curiosity grew and he followed closer. They made it to the entrance and the barman ushered John outside and pointed to a side street. “He’s just over there.” John looked very confused but the curiosity got the better of him and he walked over to the side street, it was opposite the bar and was dimly lit. It was empty except for a tall, broad shadow. John quickened his pace until he was an arms length away from the figure.
“What’s all this....” He was cut short, as soon as he got close the figure leapt into action. It pushed John roughly against the wall and pulled a bladed object and stabbed him in the chest, pulled and then stabbed again in his stomach.
“She says, I hope you experience the pain I feel everyday after you left.” The stranger growled, dropped the bladed object and disappeared. All of this happened in a blur. John felt intense pain as he clenched on to his stomach. His breath quickest as he gasped for air. His world became a blurry confused mess. He tried to move his legs but they wouldn’t, instead he slumped to the ground. He tried to call for help, his mouth moved but nothing happened, no sound was made. He suddenly felt cold and he shivered his hands began to shake and he could taste iron. Odd he thought, he hadn’t eaten any iron. Focus. Focus. He thought, he needed help but he couldn’t use his voice. The Captain is a telepath you dummy! He almost screamed to himself. He had no idea if it would work but he had to try. He tried to focus his mind and called for help is this how telepathy works? He thought as he sent out desperate screams. He suddenly was overcome with an urge to sleep, he was so tired. No. Must. Stay. Awake! He thought, someone must be along soon. He shivered and then coughed spitting up blood as he did so hoping someone would come soon.Lt. John McCandless, Head Nurse
One didn’t have to be able to read thoughts in this case, as even the desperation and sheer panic smacked the sensitive telepath upside the head. It shook Dira out of the alcoholic buzz she was feeling. But the thoughts directed at her hit. “John,” she whispered as she slipped off the chair and moved through the bar, weaving around tables, twice bumping into objects. Pain bloomed on her right hip but she kept going, almost breaking into a run.
Koria had been wandering through the Outpost since finishing up her dinner. Her engineering team had practically shoved her out the airlock, and told her not to come back until 0800 the next morning. She could only grumble at them slightly, it wasn’t their fault that she was still learning the ins and outs of the ship, and wanted to oversee the repairs. She also was admittedly not the best at the whole R&R thing.
As she came down the street she noticed a man duck down a side street a bit down the street from her, and before she knew it a different man in dark clothing came darting out and ran down the street. Her curiosity got the better of her at what just happened, she peered down the street and nearly screamed at the sight of John slumped against the wall, blood everywhere. It only took a second before she was able to pull herself together enough so that some of the emergency medical training from the Academy finally kicked in.
Running over to John, she pulled off the cardigan she was wearing and pressed it against his chest. “Stay with me!”
Pushing with one hand she fumbled for her communicator that was in the pocket of the slacks she was wearing. She tried not to think of the blood everywhere.
=^=Lieutenant Sutret to station security. We have a medical emergency! I found a man with what looks to be several stabbing wounds.=^=
The station security chief yawned. It was boring, being in charge of Security on an Outpost, this Outpost in particular. He had a boring name too, Tom Thomson. He rolled his eyes just thinking about it. He was just about to nod off for his final nap of the day when the call from Koria came through. He leapt to his feet =^=On my way.=^= He almost yelled into his comm badge and ran to the scene of the crime.
“Look at me!” she practically screamed at John, she was herself on the edge of panic. “Stay with me, help is coming!”
Lt Sutret - CE
It worked, I’m a telepathic geni..... oh. He thought when he realised he was looking at Koria and not the Captain. He was weak and breathing hard, he smiled weakly glad that someone had come to his rescue. He tried shift and groaned as pain shot through his body.
“H…h....help.” He managed softly. He reached up and touched her arm.Dira didn’t even know where she was going, she just hurried in the direction of the pain and fear. Turning the corner, her breath caught in her throat as she hurried over and dropped to her knees on the other side of John. “Dammit, John!” she said, checking his pulse. “I wasn’t planning on using my medical degree tonght, for the record.”
Captain! It did work! I AM a telepathic genius! He thought to himself. His pulse was weak but he was trying to hang on. He was so tired though.
“C....Cap.....He....S…Stabbed.....m…m.m…e.” He managed and then burst into a coughing fit. He was pale and losing blood. She glanced at Koria and pressed on CE’s hand a little firmer, indicating the need for more pressure on the stomach wound and then she took part of the cardigan and pressed against the upper chest wound. “What happened?” she said, with all the authority of a captain, even though she was very much not dressed as one.
Captain Myqian, CO
“Captain!” Koria said in nearly a squeak. She had been so focused on John that she hadn’t heard her come up.
“I was coming up the corridor when I saw him duck down this side corridor, and another man ran away just a few seconds later. My curiosity got the better of me and when I turned the corner, I found him already laying here bleeding.” She pushed her hand pressed harder at the stomach wound. “I called security right before you got here. Is he going to be okay?”
Lt Sutret - CE
Tom, the Security Chief panted as he arrived at the scene he took it in. The blood, everything.
“What the hell happened here!?” He asked trying not to freak out.Lt. John McCandless, Head Nurse
“He was stabbed!” Koria said looking up at the security chief. “Are you going to call for some medical help or something?”
She could feel the blood slowly soaking her cardigan. “Is he going to be okay Captain?
Lt Sutret - CE
There was no way to know in this moment, but Dira was not only not one to give up, but she wasn’t going to lose a member of her crew. Not today. “You’re damn right he’s going to be,” she said in a low tone of utter conviction, as if she dared anyone to contradict her. She looked at the security chief. “I am Captain Myqian, of the Ogawa currently in dock. This is a member of my crew.” It was the unspoken ‘he’s one of us, now get on it!’ order.
The Security Chief’s eyes went wide as he was confronted with the information that the woman was several ranks superior to him. He left off a salute and then pressed his comm badge =^= Security Chief to Security I need a team here now! An Officer has been stabbed! =^=
Keeping one hand pressed on the wound, she used her other hand to recheck his pulse. It was not great. Thready. Myqian bent her ear over his mouth, checking for breaths as she watched his chest (which was complicated by them having to press on the holes stabbed into his body). “Listen to me John, and I mean it. We’re here and you’re not alone. We’ve got you, I promise.”
John tried to focus on Dira, it was so difficult. He was getting so cold and tired. Yes, that was it. His main emotion was tired. He could just go sleep. Sleep yes that’s exactly what he needed. He went close his eyes and then shook his head. No, don’t give in. He had the overwhelming feeling that sleep now would be bad..... very bad. Stay awake John. He groaned, he tried to move his legs but they felt so heavy against the floor. His thoughts began to drift. Is this how I am going to go? Stabbed to death in some alley on some Outpost in the middle of nowhere. His thoughts then turned to home. Islay, Port Ellen. He remembered the smell of the sea and the rolling hills throughout the island. He coughed and groaned as a sharp pain shot through his chest.
Someone from the Outpost’s Infirmary appeared in a hurry. “Sit-rep?”
“Stab sound to the upper chest and lower torso. Thready pulse, weak breaths. Sporadic consciousness. He’s losing a lot of blood.”
A tricorder was already scanning and analyzing the nurse’s condition. =/\=Kagen to Infirmary. Incoming Medical Emergency. Stabbing. Have blood and fluids on standby. Human.=/\=
Captain Myqian, CO
=^=I’m sorry did you say stab wounds? We’ll get everything prepped, you’d best hurry!=^= The infirmary replied.
The scan confirmed the injuries to his chest a lower torso. A lung had been punctured and he had a couple of broken ribs for good measure. The torso injury had fortunately missed his vital organs which was an utter miracle, he had lost a lot of blood though and his vitals were becoming worrying, he needed medical attention asap.
At that moment the Security team arrived and Tom got to co-ordinating them sealing off the area from random passers by.
Lt. John McCandless, Head Nurse
Myqian looked to Koria and gently removed the woman’s hands. “I’ve got him now, okay? Stay with security for the moment and give them every detail you can remember. I’ll call the Ogawa and let them know, so we can coordinate. But come find me in the Infirmary once you’re done with Security.”
John made to protest as Koria’s hands were taken away. Come with me, please. He thought to himself wanting his saviour to be near him. He tried to reach up to her but his arms barely moved.
Dira nodded to the medic. “Let’s go,” she said.
The medic nodded and called for the site-to-site transport. The trio disappeared in a shimmer of light.
“Kori.... plea....” His voice was cut off as they transported away.
Captain Myqian, CO
“Uh, yes Captain,” Koria said as she watched the trio disappear. Looking down at her hands that were still covered in blood she took a deep breath. There would be plenty of time to break down later, but she needed to get somewhere a bit more private first. But that meant dealing with everything here first. A long hot shower, and a fresh change of clothes, would sadly have to wait.
Standing up she walked over towards where the security chief was. “Chief, I’m assuming you are going to want to talk to me.”
Lt Sutret - CE
Tom sighed as he took in the scene around him. This sort of thing didn’t happen here. He was nearing retirement and very much looking forward to living out the rest of his career in peace. He turned to Koria and nodded.
“I most certainly do. So lets start at the beginning. Did you see anything or hear anything? What happened?” He asked taking out a Padd to take notes.Lt. John McCandless, Head Nurse
A mere minute after the Captain transported McCandless to the infirmary, Zoi transported down to where Koria stood next to Tom Thomson. She knew he was the security chief here on the station and nodded to him respectfully. She had not looked at his full file so she hoped he was competent though the station was hardly crime central. The fact that one of her officers had been stabbed in the middle of the station was shocking. Dira must be worried sick for him but Zoi could not concentrate on the victim at the moment.
“Thomson. Lieutenant Commander Zoi Haven, Chief of Security for the USS Ogawa. Sit Rep?”
Haven, CoS
Tom looked over to Zoi as she came over. He looked relieved as she introduced herself. The older man smiled and then grimaced.
“Well, so far we’ve got a stabbing. Not much to go on I’m afraid. I was just asking the Lieutenant here some questions. She was the first on the scene. I was waiting for her to respond when you came over. That’s about it at the moment I’m afraid. We don’t get much crime here, certainly nothing like this. I could use your experience.” He said to Zoi.Lt John McCandless, Head Nurse
She nodded to the officer. “I am glad to assist sir.”
Koria looked between Zoi and Tom, not quite sure what she should do next. With a gulp she looked back towards Zoi, “Commander, as he said, he had just asked for my account of what happened as I was the one who called in the emergency.”
Lt Sutret - CE
Zoi turned to Lt. Sutret and nodded. “Lieutenant. Why don’t you give us both the account of what happened now that I am here? I am sure we will work together to figure out what is happening.”
Haven, CoS
Tom nodded as well.
“An excellent idea. Start from the beginning and take your time. We need to know as much as you can remember about what happened. So when you’re ready.” He replied holding a padd to take notes.
