Between the medical team and engineers, they managed to get Zoi and the pilot out of the stuck turbolift. The Ensign’s broken arm was easily tended to, but the Chief of Security was brought in and placed on the biobed with a head injury. She was still conscious. Kehinde leaned in and squeezed Haven’s shoulder. “Now you listen to the good doctors, okay Chief? We need you back and in good shape,” she said as the doctors renewed their assessment of their patient.Ensign Kehinde Anghelescu
“Yes sir Ensign.” Zoi said with a half smile.
Drake walked over and started assessing the patient. “Somebody take this Ensign and fix his arm.” He opened his tricorder and started scanning his patient. “Lieutenant, can you tell me your name?”
-Dr Drake Marshall
“Zoi Haven, Chief of Security. I am on the USS Ogawa and as far as I can tell, there was an explosive decompression on the ship which resulted in enough jostling around to give me a concussion.” She took in a deep breath and let it out slowly. Her voice was steady, though she was speaking her words more slowly and intentionally than usual. She looked extremely pale. “Good evening Doctor Marshall.” She replied blinking slowly. Gods above she was so tired. It was hard to stay awake even in the bright lights and loud noises of the SickBay after such a disastrous explosion on the ship. The sounds around her hurt, her head hurt, her eyes hurt, her neck hurt. Overall she had a pretty severe concussion and a strained muscle in her neck. The nausea was at bay for the time being but who knew what would happen if she sat up.
She wanted to tell them to go to other patients who had worse injuries than her, but she had no way of knowing how bad her concussion was and what the repercussions of the damage would be. It was hardly the first time the Chief of Security had retained a concussion in the line of duty.

Drake checked his tricorder but was encouraged by Zoi’s response. He smiled. “Good evening. Just try and relax while we check you over.” He hoped the scans showed nothing serious.

As soon as he smiled, she started to blink more slowly, really beginning to close her eyes for longer and longer. She found it hard to keep them open. The scans show a pretty severe concussion. One of her pupils was blown compared to the other. It showed a severe muscle strain in the neck area. Zoi could not move without it hurting and causing her to suck in a breath. The Chief of Security was a strong willed woman and did not let out the yelp she wanted to in light of the pain. There was also a large swollen knot on the back left of her head. To say she had a headache would be putting it mildly.

“Concussion, accompanied by anisocoria, contusion in the left posterior of the head, sternocleidomastoid muscle strain.” Drake called it for the medical staff around. And then he looked to Zoi. “Get some rest, you’re gonna be fine and back on duty in no time.” He went back to the other medical staff. “Bring in painkillers and anti-inflammatories. Somebody let Captain Myqian know one of the DHs is going to be out of the line for a few days. Unless she her condition deteriorates, some time, care, and monitoring will put everything right.”

Elsewhere, the captain was dealing with the fallout of what was supposed to be a drill. Things had gone terribly, terribly wrong. But when she got word that her Chief of Security was injured and in Sickbay, her heart fell. Making sure things were being taken care of, Dira left her ready room and hurried down to Primary Medical.
Normally, Zoi would have known Dira was coming. They sensed each other and she would have been turning towards the door shortly before it opened to admit the Captain. However, Zoi had a horrible headache and she was trying to stay conscious to listen to the doctors so their work the idea of going to sleep terrified her even a she felt the bone weary desire for it.
Stepping in, she moved through the space she knew well, he mind and body drawn by the inexorable sense of pain she could feel from her beloved. When she found them, Dira stopped short and took a deep breath, steadying herself before she approached. She should be professional, but much like wen Zoi made it to her bedside after Franks, Dira wanted nothing more than to make everything better. She slowed her approach, but her worry was written all over her face. Myqian took in the doctors even as she slipped her hand into Zoi’s, trying to to stay out of everyone’s way. “You know, I don’t remember to agreeing to doing this swap thing. We might need to have a chat about that,” she teased, though her tone was fond.
Zoi finally closed her eyes, feeling the comfort of Diras hand in her own. She held tight for a long moment before finally relaxing some. She felt a year run down her temple and into her hairline.
“How is she?” Dira asked the medical staff.

“First thing to know, she’ll be okay.” Drake offered reassurances. “She has a pretty severe concussion, and she has a strained muscle in her neck. I’m personally of a mind not to intervene in brain injuries that can be healed with rest. A few days in sickbay, maybe a few days more at home. If the anisocoria doesn’t resolve itself as the concussion heals, we can explore options for repair. Neurology will keep an eye on her, but the good news is she doesn’t need my help.”

Dira nodded and redirected her attention to Zoi. She rested her other hand gently on her partner’s head, carefully to avoid pressure, but in hopes of providing soothing comfort. The telepath conveyed ease and certainty through her touch. “Which means you’re going to listen to what they tell you, correct?” she said softly, a teasing edge to her voice as she squeezed their conjoined fingers. She was not the captain in this moment.

Zoi smiled softly. feeling tremendous comfort at the touch of Dira both mentally and physically. There was a warmth between them that had nothing to do with temperature. She had relaxed significantly since Dira came into sight there in Sickbay. Her doctors would see the change easily as she finally rested. “Oh, unlike some people, I am an optimal patient. The doctors should have no concerns that I will disregard their orders.”
“Pfft! Captain’s prerogative. It comes with the extra pips,” Myqian said, her dark eyes glittering.
She opened her eyes briefly to smile a little at Marshall. “While I hold Doctor Marshall in the highest regard, I should like NOT to have to use his services if it can be avoided.”
Haven, CoS
“I think we can all agree on that point,” Dira said. “How long till she’s in a position to be released?”
Captain Myqian, CO
Drake thought for a second. “Three days here, and then three days at home. As long as you take it easy, everything should resolve itself.” He started to walk away. “Oh, and the ensign who came in with you, he’s fine, his injuries were tended to.” He smiled and headed off to let the Captain and Zoi have a little privacy.
