The need for constant checkups had passed but Cori still went in every two weeks and this was her checkup date. She stepped into Secondary Sickbay and looked around for Dr. Kane.
~Corinne Dalton
Jt’nal, the Vulcan head nurse in secondary sickbay walked over. “Hello Lt. Dr. Kane will be right with you. Follow me please,” he said as he walked her over to a biobed. “Have a seat. He flipped on the biobed and then went to let Dr. Kane know she was there.
Alexis walked out, long hair in a haphazard bun held in place by too many styluses. She looked up from a PaDD as she stopped in front of her. “Hello Corinne. How are you feeling?”
Lt. Cmdr. Kane, AMO
She nodded. “I’m doing okay. Still having the sleep issues though. Makes me a little tired. I keep thinking my body just needs more time to adjust to how my brain works or something, but sometimes I can sleep well and sometimes I can’t.”

Alexis nodded as she scanned Cori. “How much success have you had in setting a sleep routine?”
Lt. Cmdr. Kane, AMO
Cori chewed on the inside of her cheek. “I mean, I try. I know all the steps for good sleep hygiene, but sometimes it doesn’t seem to matter what I do, I just can’t fall asleep.”
~Corinne Dalton
Alexis nodded, “If you remember,” which she should given her brain, “I said your body is very much like an infants. Babies do not sleep annormal schedule, you won’t either. You should sleep when you are tired, and if you cannot sleep, do not stay in bed. You will train your body to stay awake. Slowly you should sleep longer and longer. However, I can give you a sleep aid if you like. Have you used a Delta wave machine?”
Lt. Cmdr. Kane, AMO
Cori shook her head. “No, can’t say I have. How does it work?” Despite having information in her head, Cori was also still learning to process the data into useable knowledge. It seemed that was a slower process right now too. it was frustrating, all told.
~Corinne Dalton
“It is a small device that you set beside your bed. Delta waves are the rhythm your brain slips I to during sleep. The machine sends out pulses to help lull your brain into slipping into Delta waves so you can sleep,” Alexis explained.
Lt. Cmdr. Kane, AMO
It seemed straightforward enough. “Do we program it, or do I wear a monitor? I guess I’m worried about oversleeping if my brain doesn’t know it’s time to be awake,” Cori said.
~Corinne Dalton
“We’ll start with a short setting. Basically it will teach your brain how to calm and go to sleep, then your body takes over and follows its natural rhythm. If that doesn’t work, we’ll go for a longer setting. No more than 6 hours though, that way your body has time to wake up naturally.”
Lt. Cmdr. Kane, AMO
Cori nodded. “That makes sense. I’m willing to try it.” It amused her that her body was like an infant’s, even though in practice it was rather annoying.
She waved to the nurse, “Get a delta wave emitter.”
“Did we need to do any tests or anything today?” So far they had just discussed her sleep issues.
~Corinne Dalton
“Just a basic physical to see how you are progressing.” Alexis started the basic scans, “How is your physical therapy going?” She read the notes of course but it was beneficial to see what the patient said.
Lt. Cmdr. Kane, AMO
“Pretty good so far,” Cori said. “I’m definitely feeling stronger and I stretch everyday. I’m trying to be careful not to push too hard, but… well, I’m eager to get back to duty. Do you know how much longer it might be? I still have to go through all my qualifiers but I’ll need medical sign off first.”
Her scans showed that her body was in great shape, and other than the obvious signs of sleep issues, Dalton was doing well. In fact, her brain activity was still way above expected and it seemed that her formation of neural connections was increasing at a rate even more so after she was first transferred into the new body.
~Corinne Dalton
Alexis looked over her progress. “I don’t see any reason you can’t go on light duty. You will need the therapy until you’ve caught up to your age. Light duty would be good for you. We’ll give it a couple of days, see if the Delta Waved inducer helps your sleep. If it does, I’ll sign off.”
