Sinclair, XO

Ch’zaraahan moved their scanner to show a holographic image of their patient’s vascular system. He moved it along slowly, zooming in. “There! One of the branches of the middle colic artery. Actually two. Right near where the lower right corner of the metal had stopped. If you move about five centimeters to your left and two centimeters down, you’ll probably find it.”

~Mischief Maker

“Well spotted, Doctor.” Drake moved where Ch’zaraahan indicated and set to work. “When we’re done here, we may have more casualties to deal with. Are you my second pair of hands?” When he had sealed off the wounded artery, he did one last check for problems, waiting to close until he was sure they were done.

-Dr Drake Marshall

“Ummm, I can be,” Ch’zaraahan said, though it was clear he wasn’t feeling very confident about the prospect.

OOC: I’m not sure if it’s appropriate for my character to be here or go with you, just trying to find the most appropriate place to slot in!

IC:

John was just doing the rounds of ICU making sure the nursing staff were all in order. Since starting the role of Head Nurse he prided himself on stepping in when required and getting his hands dirty. He found this helped moral and also kept up his nursing skills.

He overheard Doctor Marshall as he was checking in with a nearby nurse. He coughed by way of interruption.
“Excuse me Doctor Marshall.” He said in a deep voice off to the side of Drake.
“I could go with you and be your second. The nurses are all okay here and I could check in with the other Sickbays when we’re done.” He waited patiently for a response from Doctor Marshall.

John McCandless, Head Nurse

Drake looked up at the Head Nurse. “That works as well. Once we close here, you and I can move onto other urgent cases. Last I knew, there were other urgent surgeries and a shortage of specialists, we might be busy. Depends how things have been going. Dr Ch’Zaraahan, you move to the triage area when we’re done.”

-Dr Drake Marshall

The Andorian resident nodded, still clearly unnerved by this case that spiralled out of his hands.

John nodded at Drake. This was going to turn into one long shift. While Drake was closing up John took the time to get everything together that they might need. A Doctor valued a nurse who predicted need rather than waiting to be told what to get. It was John’s job to make Drake’s job as smooth and easy as possible.

John McCandless, Head Nurse

It didn’t take long to repair the stubborn bleed, and as soon as Drake had, their patient’s pressure started going back up. Ch’zaraahan looked to McCandless. “When we’re done, he can finish off the rest of the blood transfusion but after that last unit we should switch him to a saline infusion with 5% glucose,” he said, though he glanced at Marshall for confirmation as if he was second-guessing all his decisions now.

~Mischief Maker

John nodded and walked over to NE Nurse Lyra, an Orion, and whispered.
“Wait for confirmation from Dr Marshall, finish the blood transfusion then give the saline infusion with 5% glucose. I’ll be with Dr Marshall assisting around Sickbay if you need me.”
John waited for Drake to finish and made ready to follow him.

John McCandless, Head Nurse

Drake closed the surgical site and stepped back. “Send him to the nearest biobed to finish off the blood and then chase that with saline. Try and have this operating room ready for use as soon as possible.” He looked back to the frightened resident. “Well done, Doctor. We’re all done here and I bet they need you in triage.”

John looked over to NE Lyra.
“We need to be ready to except more patients who may need emergency surgery. See to the blood and saline, then clear up here and prep for more surgery.”

When the Andorian had gone, Drake walked over to the Head Nurse. “Poor kid. Left on his own to handle all this. Now. Shall we go find out what’s going on out on the floor?”

-Dr Drake Marshall

John nodded in agreement, there was just too few senior surgeons to oversee everything. Poor lad John thought.
“Aye Doctor. You lead, I’ll follow.” John replied.
“Once more unto the breach.” He muttered to himself making ready to follow Drake and preparing himself mentally for the influx of patients.

John McCandless, Head Nurse

Drake walked out into sickbay and started evaluating the situation. “We haven’t had much chance to speak before now. These are less than ideal ‘get to know you’ circumstances. Though having the Head Nurse around will probably be for the best.” Drake liked having a skilled nurse on hand. Especially when the Emergency Department was in full operation.

-Dr Drake Marshall

John also looked out over Sickbay standing next to Drake and cast his eyes over the wounded. He nodded and smiled.
“Aye Doctor, it’s certainly not the ideal circumstance for polite small talk.” He replied.

There were reports that there were still patients to be brought into both Sickbays, but overall things had slowed down and it seemed the worst of the cases had already made it to medical care. All stable patients from Secondary Medical were being moved to Primary Medical due to the ongoing power issues.

~Mischief Maker

“Although it looks as though everything is in hand. How about we grab some lunch in the lounge?” He asked chuckling to himself slightly as his own joke.
“In all seriousness though, I should probably assist with the transfer.” He added, but waited to see if Drake had other ideas.

John McCandless (Head Nurse)

Drake breathed a sigh of relief. “Yeah, go ahead and help out there. I’ll stay here and receive patients from downstairs. Really could use that lunch though.” He looked around, double-checking what the situation was. He always believed that the less he needed to be in Emergency Mode, the better everything was.

-Lt Cmdr Drake Marshall

John nodded at Drake.
“Well Doctor Marshall, I’ll be sure to get you something once things calm down.” John stated, he genuinely would as well.

Drake chuckled. “Make sure you get something for yourself.”

At this point, Brad walked out of the second ICU suite and made a beeline for the other two members of his senior staff.

“Status report?” he asked.

Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker
Chief of Staff

John cleared his throat as Brad walked over.
“I was just about co-ordinate the move of the stable patients from Secondary to Primary Sickbay. It looks as though things are stabilising.” John then waited for Drake to add his update.

Lt John McCandless, Head Nurse

“Betazoid patient is stable and should recover fine.” Drake quirked an eyebrow. “On to whatever is next on the priority list.”

-Dr Drake Marshall

Just then, GALEN’s voice was heard. =/\=Primary Medical, prepare to receive an incoming crush injury patient from Deck 8A. ID, Crewman Emilia Hammond.=/\= It had to be one of the few last patients still out there given the affected decks were being evacuated entirely where possible.

A patient was beamed onto a biobed with multiple fractures and lacerations on her legs and pelvis and she was conscious and groaning in pain. Her breathing seemed rapid all of a sudden.

~Mischief Maker

“Sounds like it’s her,” Brad said, nodding towards the new arrival. “She’s all yours, I’ll take over the coordination.”

Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker
Chief of Staff

Drake nodded and walked over to his new patient, pulling out a medical tricorder. He needed to clock what was wrong with her breathing. Could be the strain of injury, could be a symptom. He needed to know and needed to know quickly.
