OOC: I’m guessing on my times, please adjust as needed.

IC: Navale closed her eyes and took a breath. She was NOT the chief engineer, she was not the chief engineer, she was NOT the chief engineer. Where was Maria anyway? =/\=It will be at least three hours captain before we have impulse back. Until we plug that leak and reinitialize the system we have no impulse drive. Inertial dampeners shouldn’t be a problem if we close off the areas of the breach, but shields will be an issue. We have a gaping hole in the hull and it will take hours,” she emphasized the plural, “to get something rigged to compensate enough to make landing even possible much less comfortable.=/\=

Lt. Huzzen, Engineer

=/\=Understood, Engineering. We’ll stay put and notify the Outpost. I’m on my way down there.=/\=

Captain Myqian, CO

=/\=Aye Ma’am. Engineering out.=/\= Navale looked around at the teams swarming all over the place and then went back to the main control panel to check and ensure the reroutes they had put in place were going to hold.

In the meantime Emergency Team Epsilon had arrived at the main access point to the impulse drive and they swarmed over the area trying to find the location and cause of the coolant leak.

Lt. Huzzen, Engineer

A couple minutes later, Dira strode in with an intense focus. “Report,” she said calmly. “Where are we at?” she said as she approached Huzzen.

Captain Myqian, CO

Navale looked up from the main table, “Captain,” Huzzen pointed out different displays as she spoke. “The warp drive has some kind of power feedback loop happening, the impulse drive is leaking coolant, we have power overloads all over decks 7, 8, and 9. We’ve shutdown nonessential systems and rerouted what we can. Our priority is keeping the forcefields intact and life support. I am waiting on updates from the emergency repair teams.”

Lt. Huzzen, Engineer

She nodded. “We have the emergency bulkheads engaged, so it should prevent further issues with the breach until we can make repairs,” Myqian said.

=/\=Epsilon Team to Huzzen=/\= an already tired sounding voice came over the comms, =/\=I think we have stopped the coolant leak. We have probably about 25% left in the tanks, and another little bit in the system, so you know, we have that going for us.=/\=

=/\=Is there any damage to the system from the loss of coolant? We don’t want to restart the impulse and blow up because we overheat.=/\=

“MacGuffin, how much coolant do we have in storage?” Navale asked the other engineer helping her.

MacGuffin tapped away and pulled up the inventory report, showing it on the screen for Huzzen. “Depending on the size of the leak we could get to the outpost without much trouble. I wouldn’t recommend doing anything hot such as visiting stars or nebulas on our way there. Assuming the rate of leakage is constant.”

A few moments later, the NE for Alpha team added in, =/\=So’Tar here. Well.... If you don’t mind flying with one nacelle we would be ok going to warp.=/\= An anxious chuckle followed by, =/\=Also, has anyone seen power conduits… sparkle? Like glitter got in the plasma flow.=/\=

GM Wombat

=/\=We don’t want to be flying in circl…wait? Did you say glitter? Connect me to a visual feed of what you are looking at.=/\=

Lt. Huzzen, Engineer

They were close enough to base for a tow, so Dira wasn’t worried about warp, but she was worried about whatever caused her little drill to go so sideways. They would have to do a post-mortem on the entire sequence of events, but right now she was focused on making sure the damage didn’t expand and no more of her crew was put at risk.

At the mention of glitter, the captain frowned and waited for the visual, all the while something in her memory prickled.

Captain Myqian, CO

Bump

MacGuffin tapped away again and brought up So’Tar’s tricorder readings and visual from her helmet. What greeted the captain and the two engineers was something like a unicorn barffed on the side of the jefferies tube. Purple sparkles lined the whole surface, glimmering with radiant energy

GM Wombat

“What exactly is it?” Myqian said, frowning. But something was tugging on her memory from when the ill ambassador had been here. “Didn’t we deal with this stuff before?”

Captain Myqian, CO

Navale nodded, “Yes Captain. It was that gelatinous goo. It went everywhere. It was feeding on our power packs. We flash froze it and transported it to containment in the science labs for those folks to examine.”

“Oh, that is so not going to come out of the deck plating,” Koria said as she looked over the Captains shoulder at the screen. Finishing wiping her hands on a rag, she tucked it away.

Navale looked up quickly not recognizing the voice right away and then managed to hide a sigh of relief. The chief was there. “It tooks us weeks to get it out.”

“But whatever that is, it’s probably the reason why we are getting a feedback loop in the power systems. Until we get that part of the ship isolated, I wouldn’t risk going to warp. You know, besides the other 500 issues we are trying to sort out right now.”

Lt Sutret - CE

“Most likely, Sir,” Navale said, “It feeds on the power relay packs. Looks like there was one left over or it got out or something. Or the bits we missed grew.”

Lt. Huzzen, Engineer

Koria shook her head, why did they always let the scientists tinker with things. She still remembered one of her first assignments when a ‘good meaning science officer’ had managed to melt the phaser relay while trying to repair it.

“Do you remember how quickly it can grow and spread?”

Lt Sutret - CE

Huzzen shrugged, “Sorry Chief. I don’t know. I never saw a report about it after we transferred it to the labs.”

Lt. Huzzen, Engineer

“It wouldn’t take much. Even a couple spores finding the right environment would do it.” Dira sighed. “So’Tar? Collect a sample so that we can run some analyses. And can you tell if the goo is affecting our coolant tanks?”

Captain Myqian, CO

“Figures,” she said mumbling under her breath. “Well if freezing it worked last time, it’s probably our best route to go right now. Get it contained, stabilize the situation, and then we can figure out how to scrub the ship of any potential spores.”

Lt Sutret - CE

“We’ll have to find where the actual organism is and not just the traces. We’ll have to deep freeze all of it,” Navale commented. If it had been traveling around the ship it was going to take a lot of cleaning.

Lt. Huzzen, Engineer

Dira inhaled deeply and shook her head. There was just no way around it and she tapped her commbadge. =/\=Myqian to the Bridge. We have a fungal organism issue again. Until we can get everything under control on top of dealing the results of the explosion, evacuate all non-essential decks, and any areas on essential decks that can go unmanned.=/\=

Myqian looked over at Sutet. “The next time I have grand ideas to do ship-wide drills, remind me of this moment and tell me politely to go to hell, okay?”

“Noted, as I’m definitely leaning towards punishment now,” Koria said making a call back to her first meeting with the Captain.

The captain gave a weary look at Huzzen. “We intended to damage the ship so it was more than just a simulation, but this-“she gestured around her-“was not in the plan at all.”

Captain Myqian, CO

OOC: I am so sorry folks. I have been inundated with work and life and not been able to focus as much on STF as I would like. Not an excuse just an explanation.

IC: Going back and looking at the research would show that the organism doubled in size roughly every four hours. If it had access to more power, its primary source of energy, that rate could increase exponentially.

So’Tar sent her acknowledgement and mentioned she would coordinate with science since they probably weren’t busy enough dealing with whatever science deals with.

GM Wombat

“Lieutenant,” Koria said looking over at Navale. “Let’s get to work on at least localizing this one particular spot, and eliminating it there. The last thing we need is it having a direct tap on our power grid.”

=^=So’Tar. Let us know once you have your samples, so we can get rid of this organism. Hopefully once and for all.=^=

Lt Sutret - CE

“Aye, Chief. As soon as So’Tar’s team is clear. I will seal the hatches and flood the area with liquid hydrogen. Then we can go in and remove it,” Navale reported.

Lt. Huzzen, Engineer

“We’ll have to do areas of the ship we can’t evacuate now, later, but hopefully we’ll buy ourselves enough time to get to that point,” Myqian said.

Captain Myqian, CO

“We can pin point areas that might be affected by looking for power drains, but I would rather not wait that long,” Navale said. “It would help if science could get us a more accurate bio or chemical signature to trace.”

Lt. Huzzen, Engineer

Koria grumbled something about it would help if there wasn’t a hole in the side of the ship.

“For now, let’s clear what we can. We can try and put cold gaps around any major systems, try to limit any possible growth vectors. We really just need to make it long enough to drop the crew somewhere, and freeze the whole ship at once. One large mass sterilization of the ship.”

Lt Sutret - CE

“On it, Chief.” Using the internal sensors, Navale scanned each of the major power junctions. Those that were empty she sealed and flash froze. Then set up a warning for the work crews to suit up or avoid those areas.

Lt. Huzzen, Engineer

“We’re not far from Outpost 42. We can put in for repairs their once we have things secure. But I don’t want to risk spreading anything over there. until we’re sure we can contain things well enough. They can take precautions, but it’s a big place and if they get any spores over there, I know the commanding officer will be curing us fora. long time.” Myqian couldn’t help but smirk a little, if only knowing that this would just add to the stories they got to tell, and for Dira this fell firmly under ‘things I regret’.

“Okay, it seems like things are under control here. I’m going to head back to the bridge. Anything else you need me for before I go?”

Captain Myqian, CO

It was then the comms chirped. =/\= Bridge here. Engineering, we need a team at turbolift B between decks near deck 8A. Entrapment with injury. Coordinate with SAR teams and ensure that all lifts are on lockdown. =/\=

Sinclair, XO

MacGuffin looked up from where he was furiously implementing the senior officer’s instructions, rerouting power and the like, doing his best to make sure the crews were safe, etc. Finally after a moment he said, under his breath, “Looks like we will get that R&R anyway. Once we get to the station at least.”
