“I can understand that,” Brad said, “For all that I can’t really help with that part. I’m a doctor, not a psychiatrist. I’ll leave the mental side of things to the counseling department.”

She smirked. “It’s okay, the Chief of Psychiatry and I are getting to know each other pretty well, such as it is.”

He resumed his own workout for a few moments, before asking “Are you settling well, so far?”

She gave that question the serious consideration it was due given that it was not easiest to answer. “I mean, yes? I’m rather excited to be walking about and living my life again, and there are all sort of wonderful things that go along with this new reality. But, it’s been a lot. I’m just taking it one day at a time.”

“I suppose that’s about all we can do, in the end,” Brad replied. “Besides, I wouldn’t want to live more than one day at a time. I get little enough sleep as it is.”

Dalton snorted. “Ahh, that is something I’m getting used to again. You’d be surprised how strange it becomes. Eating too. I’m learning my tastebuds all over again. I have foods I remember liking but it’s like everything is so much more intense, more finely honed.” She amused herself for a moment imagining what it would have been like to have had someone else in the system on the Saracen with her who experienced timeless the way she had. She still had a hard time explaining it to people now.

“That could be a design issue,” Brad offered. “I can relate a little there, though,” he added. “I lost my sense of taste for about a month when I was fourteen, and when it came back it was like my entire palate had changed.”

Cori nodded. “I can see that. I think I’m dealing with something similar but also different. My brain patterns have not changed, but the quality of the input its receiving has improved. It’s richer, more densely encoded with information. My sensory experiences are all just… more. It’s fascinating, really, from a physiological aspect. It would make a great case study if it weren’t necessary to be all hush-hush about it.”

“Like a person with four rods-and-cones in their eyes can see more colors than ones with three or two. Could get you a write-up in The Journal of Confidential Medicine,” Brad joked with a grin.

Cori laughed as she moved away from the barre to the mat and sat down to do some stretches. “Yes, I’ll just use a pseudonym- some sort of codename like”-she spread her hands across in front of her-“Patient X, and no one will possibly know it’s me.” Her vivid blue eyes gleamed.

Bump

Brad laughed. “Any other issues you’ve noticed so far?” he asked. He trusted the Doctors Kane a great deal, but building a fully-functional mostly-human body from scratch and having it come out completely perfect on the first try was something he had a few private doubts about.

Cori splayed her knees out while pressing the soles of her feet together and gently tugging her ankles towards her. She definitely didn’t have the flexibility yet that she hoped for but that would come with repetition. “Not so much. Just making sure my body has strength so that I don’t injure it doing rather normal things. It’s been a bit strange, but I guess it’s really no different than recovering after a big injury or something. I do my PT and do body work here in the gym, and so far it’s been working well.”

She stopped and looked up at him. “I suppose my brain works a bit faster. Some sort of holdover from existing in a computer or something? I can hold more in my mind than I think I used to be able to, but it’s a hard thing to judge after so many years.”
