Koria stopped in front of the door and took a deep breath. She had always been much more comfortable around machines then with people, at least machines it was easy to tell when there was something wrong. But she had slowly come to accept that while she did get to work on these amazing ships, and mostly get to work with people who also appreciated the amazing engineering that went into them, a part of her job these days involved interacting with other people. Such as the Captain.

Closing her eyes for a second she took one more calming breath. As she reached over to tap the chime, she silently cursed herself for not actually bothering to check and see if the Captain was here. But her finger had a mind of its own, landing on the button and there was no turning back now.

“Come in.”

An office space said something about the occupant and Dira’s was no different. To the right of the entrance was the captain’s desk, a couple chairs for guests, and a replicator tucked into the corner, while a sitting area took up the space in front of the an expanse of windows opposite the main door. The sitting area comprised of a navy blue sofa that had a gentle curve to it. On each side of it, nestled between the windows and where it curved out was a side table with a potted plant. One had trails of forked leaves and the other had tall dark green stems lined with alternating heart shaped leaves that had a blue hue.

Other small touches had been added that were Dira’s, though only a few so far. Aside from the plants, there was a round and squat pot in a deep blue colour with sweeps of white and green paint. It sat on the shelf behind the desk, along with a picture of an older brown skinned woman with a heart shape face, natural black kinky curls not unlike Dira’s, and the dark eyes of a Betazoid. On the other side of the pot was a brown skinned Haliian man with a greying moustache, short dark hair and a receding hairline that made his forehead ridges and bulges more prominent.

Her dark eyes gazed at the newcomer and Dira smiled, gesturing to one of the chairs at her desk. “Ahh, if I’m not mistaken, you’re my new Chief Engineer, yes?”

Captain Myqian, CO

“Yes Captain. Lieutenant Koria Sutret reporting for duty,” she said as she walked into the office. Looking down at the proffered chair she slid into it, sitting up right, her back straight. “It’s a pleasure being here Captain.”

Koria silently congratulated herself, that sound almost normal.

Dira smiled knowingly. “Relax, Lieutenant, I don’t bite. Can I grab you something from the replicator? It’s about time I took a break and I could use something myself.”

Captain Myqian, CO

“No thank you Captain,” Koria said shifting in the chair, hopefully making it seem like she had ‘relaxed’.

“Uh, but please don’t stop yourself on my account.”
