Royal leaned in and smiled. “New bodies come with a lot of changes, yes… and not just new bodies for ourselves. New bodies in our personal space. All of this-” and he gestured back and forth between them, “- will be new to both of us. So don’t ever feel like you are totally alone in that.” and he smiled. “Although I will give the edge on learning the ins and outs of new physical body.”

Royal

She grinned, her eyes alit. “Well, did always enjoy that process before. Now it’s endless fascinating. And the nice thing about being science minded is that I love learning and am willing to experiment with different variables.”

Royal groaned, but smiled. “Really? The teasing starts now?” and he chuckled. “I look forward to the experiments, I gotta say.”

Royal Sinclair

“Now? Oh, I think it started awhile ago, we were both trying to ignore it.” Cori surveyed the last of her tea and knocked it lukewarm liquid back. “Okay, anything else we should mention or discuss before we sleep. I will say that I tend to need my own space while I’m sleeping but I don’t mind contact before I drift off. I just roll over to get more space.”

~Corinne Dalton

“Well, as I haven’t shared my bed with anyone in… well… a long time-” and he chuckled, “- I’ll just say that I don’t know if I flop around or am a blanket hog. Just kick me if you need to.” and he smiled. He stood up, took the cups, and put them in the recycled. He looked at Cori and took a deep breath in. “Okay. Let’s do this.” and he swept an arm to the bedroom.

She rose from the sofa and glided towards the bedroom, strangely anxious. How many times in the past had she fallen into bed with someone fuelled by chemical reactions and pure need? This was different and it wasn’t because they were limiting the physicality between them for now. In her mind there was a deeper intimacy of being in bed with someone with no expectations other than the other would be there when you woke. It was a measure of trust, of care. Was Cori ready for something like this? Yes. The answer surprised her, but at the same time it felt like a long time coming. “Do you have a side you prefer?” she asked sitting on the closest edge, her heart thrumming steadily.

~Corinne Dalton

Royal looked at her, sitting there on the edge of his bed in his bedroom, and he took a deep breath. “How about you get comfortable and I’ll get comfortable around you? I really have no preference.” he said softly. His heart was hammering inside his chest and he had to consciously slow his breathing.

Royal

Cori nodded and rose. Pulling back the covers from the left side she was already on, she simply slipped in and settled in on her back at first. This was strange, but in a lovely way. “I’ve been sleeping on my side, but I can start here.”

~Corinne Dalton

Royal slid in the right side and adjusted himself on his back for a few seconds. “I’m usually a side sleeper, but I move from side to side during the night. I’ll try not to roll over and smother you.” he said with a grin. He moved around a little more and then said “Hang on.” and he slid his arm across the tip of the bed under Cori’s pillow. “Does that work?” he asked.

Royal

She smiled. “Yeah, it does.” Cori feel quiet before she actually giggled. “This is so silly. I feel like a teenager again. This isn’t exactly provocative or anything but just the idea of sleeping next to each other seems… different. Comforting, but also important.”

~Corinne Dalton

“I have no idea what you are talking about. Seems perfectly normal to me. Not slightly awkward and really nice simultaneously at all.” he said and then laughed. He turned his head and looked at her, smiling. “But absolutely the best night I have ever had.”

Royal

She had gone from nervous for the date to unapologetic flirting in one night and yet Cori felt the heat on her cheeks at those simple words. There had been nothing extraordinary about their evening, except for the fact that it had been between them and had carried nothing heavy within it at all. It had felt so natural. “You know. I think I agree with that assessment.”

~Corinne Dalton

“Good.” he said softly. “I’m glad.” He smiled at her and then his cheeks flushed slightly. “Okay… so are you tired? Or do you want to talk for a bit? I’m open to either.” He heart was pounding, but in a good way. His mind raced at the possibilities of the future… but those thoughts were far below the surface. The surface was simply him and her… together.

Royal

A part of her really didn’t want this evening to end, so Cori turned on her side to face him, curling her arm over her side. “I don’t mind talking. Not sure what to talk about though. We did cover quite a bit of ground this evening,” she said with a soft chuckle.

~Corinne Dalton

Royal adjusted into his pillow so they faced each other evenly. The bed wasn’t small, but he was large and she was not exactly tiny, so the distance between them was perhaps a hand’s breadth. “Tell me what you thought about when you were gone. I know it wasn’t pleasant… but did anything bring you joy? Did any thought make you happy… even for a second?”
