She knew from Myqian that the Chief of Staff was one of the few people who had been let in on her situation, if loosely, so she wasn’t breaking any rules, or going to confuse him. At least some of this was easier. Cori shook her head. “No, I don’t. But you have to understand that in thirteen years I only ever left the Saracen a couple of times, and once was under something of an extraordinary situation. I had the capacity to leave for short durations, but it never really was an option. Too risky.” Dalton drew in a slow and deep breath, her expression bemused. “I forget that I can leave this ship and potentially go anywhere, if I wanted to. I have that choice again, Doctor. People take granted their freedom to choose many things for themselves, their location included. You’d be surprised how… surreal it feels for someone like me to have that freedom again.”

Brad made an “ah” expression. “So, it’s less a concern about actually leaving the ship as it is amazement at finally being able to do so after so long?” he asked.

She nodded. “And perhaps a little fear too. I’m sheltered here on the Ogawa, protected as I settle into this new chapter of my existence. Once I move outside of this hull, I’m exposed. that’s going to take a bit to work through.” Cori resumed her pliés, moving with gentle and graceful motions, even as she could feel the slight tremor in her thigh muscles that told her she was working those muscle groups quite a bit.

“I can understand that,” Brad said, “For all that I can’t really help with that part. I’m a doctor, not a psychiatrist. I’ll leave the mental side of things to the counseling department.”

She smirked. “It’s okay, the Chief of Psychiatry and I are getting to know each other pretty well, such as it is.”

He resumed his own workout for a few moments, before asking “Are you settling well, so far?”

She gave that question the serious consideration it was due given that it was not easiest to answer. “I mean, yes? I’m rather excited to be walking about and living my life again, and there are all sort of wonderful things that go along with this new reality. But, it’s been a lot. I’m just taking it one day at a time.”
