As she left her newly-assigned quarters, finally having divested herself of the duffel bag she’d been carrying around ever since coming aboard, Alex blew out a breath she hadn’t known she was holding. Met the Captain, got a clean bill of health, found her quarters, stowed her gear, had a bite to eat from her personal replicator. All but one of the items on the ‘mandatory check-in procedure’ list that came with every set of reassignment orders had been taken care of. Only one thing left to do, now.

As she made her way back into the medical wing, back through the waiting area with the standard-issue hospital chairs, and towards the counseling suites, Alex pondered her conversation with the Captain, this morning. It had gone way deeper into her past, her emotional state, her secret and not so secret reasons for choosing the path she had chosen in life, than she’d been anticipating. She wondered how much deeper a counselor could probe. Or would they?

Only one way to find out, she thought, and she rang the chime.

OOC: Bump to prevent this from falling off the board.

“Come in,” Mariah called out, just loudly enough to be heard and with a slight lilt to her voice. Her office doors automatically hissed open to reveal the young woman she recognized as Alex Winters, the Ogawa’s new chief engineer, whom Mariah knew to have a particularly unusual and intriguing history for someone serving in Starfleet. Mostly, Mariah always hesitated to read too much about someone she was soon to meet, knowing at least some of the information, like prior evaluations, would contain opinions filtered through a particular lens. However, in the case of the Ogawa crew, she was learning some prior review was essential for understanding their complex and intriguing histories.

Grayson loved these initial sessions, as they gave her an opportunity to meet new people and explore new puzzle pieces. “Hello,” she offered, coming forward and offering her hand. “I’m Mariah Grayson. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
