“I think I’m so used to people shying away from ‘the shrink’ that the separation that comes with being in command doesn’t feel all that different. It saddens me sometimes, but I am trying to make that better. Or rather, I was. Recent events have not made that particularly easy.”

Royal nodded. “It’ll take time. Not just for them to come around, but for you to find your style as well. And that’s fine. It should come organically. It will be more genuine than if you tried to force it.”

Sinclair, XO

“What about you? How are you feeling as XO now that’s you’ve been on the ship a little while? How do you feel about Corinne deciding to stay on board?”

Royal smiled. “Pretty solid about one, pleasantly curious about the other… still slighltly nervous I’ll mess up both.” and he laughed. “But one thing g is true for both… they are never boring, that’s for certain.”

Sinclair, XO

“Certainly not on this ship. I don’t think I’ve had a month here I could rightly call boring. And if the Admiral didn’t warn you about that before you arrived, I’d say you got tossed in the fire,” she said with a grin.

Dira held out her glass for a refill.

Royal obliged and then said “I was warned, but until we were docking.” he said with a laugh. “Too little, too late I think is the saying.”

Sinclair, XO

She laughed and then took a sip. “At least youhad a ship when you arrived. Mine was a mess and I reported into Captain Taylor at Starbase. Wasn’t expecting such a nice ship for my first command stint but hey, I’ll take it and I’m grateful.”

Dira settled more deeply into her seat and gazed upwards for a moment. “It came up in conversation with Commander Walker a little while ago, and I’ve somewhat avoided doing anything about it, but my mother is starting to bug me about it and I’ve tried to give vague answers.” She blew out a breath. “I might need time away from the Ogawa and it would posibly mean taking our Chief of Security with me.”

Royal shrugged. “I’ll keep a light on in the window for you.” was all he said. He downed his drink and exhaled slowly. “And don’t worry about it. I told you… I’m here to have your back. If that means a vacation, so be it. Besides…” and he grinned at her, “… it’s not like I don’t know how to be a Security Chief when the need arises.”

Dira blinked and then laughed. “You know, I had momentarily forgotten,” she said with another chuckle.

“Vacation might be a part of it, but my mother is getting re-married and she really wanted me to be there. They’ve been together for years and aren’t in any rush, but… she told me about this a little while after we got the new ship,” she said, quirking a brow. That had been a few years now. “Things just kept coming up and I couldn’t get away.” Never mind that she hadn’t actually had any proper R&R since she had gotten here. And then there would be the rest of recent events that she’d have to contend with and there would be no where to hide amongst a bunch of telepaths.

He smiled slightly and shrugged. “Do what you have to, Skipper. I’ll make sure the children play nice while you are gone.”
