Alex smiled. “All right, so … get my hand stamped by Medical, go have a chat with the Counselor, check on my department, and then have a drink in the lounge with the senior staff? Can do, boss.” She tossed a mock salute in the general direction fo the Captain. “Anything else, Ma’am?”

Dira smiled and nodded. “Yes, enjoy this time. It’s a new experience and one I hope will be a good one for you. Soak it all in. And, remember that my door is always open. I might be a busy captain these days, but don’t hesitate to come see me if you have questions or concerns. I’m always able to be a sounding board.”

“Oh, and Alex?” Myqian grinned. “Welcome to the Ogawa. It’s an unusual ship at times. You have been warned.”

“Duly noted,” Alex said. “On both counts. See you ‘round the bend, Ma’am. And thanks for the warm welcome. You surely are a step up from my previous boss. More than one, probably.”

She stood, took her empty mug back to the replicator to have it recycled, turned on her heels and walked out. ‘Interesting times ahead,’ she thougt. ‘Interesting times, indeed.’
