USS Ogawa
Winters’ boarding physical
Having met the Captain and done the obligatory “new meat, sniff me” song and dance, Alex’ next order of business was to get her hand stamped by the medical staff.
She didn’t expect any surprises. She’d only just been poked and prodded, and given a clean bill of health a mere two weeks ago, after a slightly closer than intended encounter with the business end of a plasma torch. It left nothing more than another tiny sliver of added credibility with the sort of folks who know that a real engineer must get their hands dirty on the regular. Really, the scar was only noticeable if you knew where to look, even now. Give it an extra few weeks, and it would be nothing beyond perhaps an insignificant footnote in her medical file.
Alex stepped into … well, she was tempted to call it ‘Sickbay’, until she entered and was met with … a reception desk, and a waiting area with chairs that screamed ‘hospital!’. Only then did she remember that the Ogawa was exactly that: a hospital that just happened to have an engine room tacked on.
Alex looked at the receptionist and said: “Hi. I’m Alex, the new Chief Engineer. Here for a standard boarding physical. Do I need an appointment?”
