Her eyes glistened at the same time as a a coy smirk graced tugged at her lips. “Good thing I was trained as a medic, now. Not to mention we’re on a medical ship. We won’t let you perish from dehydration.”
For a moment it might have seemed like she was going to wink at him, but Dalton leaned in, her smile softening. “For what it’s worth, there were times when I wished I could have some sort of eventual death, if only so I didn’t go eternity alone. But I’m glad that I get to exist in the here and now, and that you’re here too. Nothing made me happier than learning you were here on this ship, Royal. I know this is a lot, for both of us, but if my story doesn’t remind you that life is short and you should make use of every opportunity, I don’t know what will!”
~Cori
Serving individual tables more than drinks was not something he normally did but today was different. Besides, this was his domain and if he wanted to go out of his way to make this special for a certain pair of officers tonight, well, that was just what he was going to do dammit!
Sam strolled over in his nicely tailored dark grey slacks and vest, with a dark red shirt under the vest, sleeves rolled just below the elbow. “Commander, Lieutenant,” he greeted with a smile. Yes, he knew about the new addition to the manifest… somehow. “What are we wanting this evening? Can I start you with drinks first?” He eyes Dalton. “Just ask Royal here, I make a mean cocktail.”
~Sam, Host of Florence’s
“That he does.” Royal said. He looked at Cori and said “Anything you want that you haven’t been able to have in a while?” he asked, his eyes sparkling with the secret meaning.
Royal
She snorted. “That’s a big question.” Cori lifted her hand and tapped her finger on her lips. “Hmm, you know, I’m in the mood for something fun and fizzy. Let’s go with a sloe gin fizz.”
Royal smiled. “Way to bust out the classics, Cor…”
“And for you?” Sam asked.
~Cori & Sam
“Rum punch please, Sam. And thank you.” he said. He looked back at Cori and said “So. What do you want to talk about? Anything particular on yiur mind?”
Royal
She watched as the host moved back to the bar humming to himself and she smiled for a moment before focusing on Royal’s question. “Oh gosh, what isn’t on my mind lately?” She drew in a full breath and sighed it out. “There are so many unknown questions, and some of them have worries or fears attached. I… don’t want to ignore them and pretend there aren’t there, but I also don’t want to burden our evening with them.” It was a delicate balance in her mind, or maybe she was lying to herself because her experience in the past (with people other than Royal) was that there were limitations on when you could talk about more serious subjects. Besides, this was a date. Wasn’t it supposed to be fun?
~Cori
Royal smiled sympathetically at her. He then did something he had never done before with her… he reached out and took her hand in his. “You are never a burden.” he said softly, giving her hand a gentle squeeze before letting go. “But I get not wanting to use tonight to discuss them. So, instead, how about you tell me how you are doing outside of all of that? Have you met anyone from the crew yet that you like?”
Royal
She almost wanted to reach back and take his hand, to feel the sensation of their skin touching, but Cori didn’t. But his words echoed in her mind. You are never a burden How often had she bene made to feel the exact opposite? But the thing with Royal was that she believed him. He was the real deal and would never go out of his way to hurt her. “I haven’t really been super social yet. It’s a bit like I’ve forgotten how. But everyone was pretty nice in the lab when I’ve gone there. I need to go talk to the CSO about my return to duty and what that might look like, but mostly I’m in therapy of physio. The med staff have been really nice. And strange as everything was I kind of like the Kanes. They were honest with me, even if R&D Kane made me want to punch him when I first appeared in his lab. My being in pain did distract me from that notion. But I don’t know, I’ve grown to kind of like him.”
“And then the captain is really nice. It’s been a mixed bag for Captain’s over the years, but I feel like I can trust her, so that’s novel. The rest? Well, I guess I’m going to have to be more social, now aren’t I? It’s just… hard because I don’t really know what to tell people. A couple questions into a normal conversation and it’ll be clear my circumstances are… odd. I’m not sure how to handle it.”
