“Just like a baby,” Cori said with a smirk before sucking on the tube. She looked around the medical bay and was trying hard to reconcile everything that happened but she was just honestly overwhelmed. It was like a dream… except she didn’t really remember what dreaming was like.

She looked at the two Kanes and there was immense gratitude in her eyes, which had begun to tear for real this time. These tears could actually fall and hit something. “No matter what happens, just know that I’m really grateful.”

“We accept payment in gold-pressed latinum and gift certificates for ‘Cry Baby Ink’ tattoo parlor on Oed V.” the heavily tattooed Kane said and then he hopped off the table edge and said “Go to sleep. Oh, Dream journal. Keep one. The shrink will want to know. Trust me… massive shifts in one’s reality are my specialty.” He added with a kind of sarcastic chuckle. He looked at Alexis and said “I’m gonna go do some records doctoring and make sure the cover story is solid. See you at home.” He kissed her cheek, a startlingly gentle gesture from him considering his personality, and he walked out of rhe room with a wave. “See ya, Dalton.” and he disappeared from view.

Kane, R&D

Cori arched a brow as she watched this conundrum of a man exit the area. “Later.”

For a moment the completely analytical-absorbed-in-the-data concentration slipped from Alexis face. “Yep, Burgers, Lucy, and Frigga.”

She turned to Dalton, “He was kidding. We don’t take payment or gifts for our work. You are very welcome.” The work was reward enough, and honestly that was the best honeymoon ever. “Alright, you said you don’t like the dark, but would you like the lights over your bed dimmed a little?”

Lt. Cmdr. Kane, Assistant Chief Medical Officer

Dalton nodded. “I don’t think tons of light will be good for my sleep, now that I actually have to worry about sleep quality, but if we dim down to ten percent, I will try that.” She just wanted to be able to make out the outlines of objects and people, to feel that she wasn’t in some void.” Setting the empty tube to the side, Cori settled down carefully onto the pillow, still feeling rather weak and wobbly. “But don’t worry, I won’t ask you to sing me a lullaby,” she said with a smirk.

Alexis nodded, “Good because I would not. You are welcome to ask the computer for music. Let the nurses know if you need anything. I will check on you later.” Alexis keyed the lights down and quickly left the immediate area for her office.

Lt. Cmdr. Kane, Assistant Chief Medical Officer

Cori listened to the sounds of the med bay, of people going about their duty. Sometimes there were bits of conversation she could partially make out, or sounds of laughter that told her there was a rapport here among at least some of the medical staff. Before she knew it, her eyes slipped closed, the sounds of people a curious lullaby.
