Corinne nodded as she chewed on her lower lip for a moment. “I suppose this would be a good time to confess that I have a fear of small, completely dark places thanks to the Douwd. Royal had just helped me get quarters of my own on the Saracen and we had only started properly decorating. I hadn’t even stayed in them when I disappeared so I haven’t actually slept anywhere in all these last years, not even in a pretend setting.”

~Corinne Dalton

That, Alexis, could completely empathize with. “You can control the level of the lights in your room, and we can replicate anything you would like or need.” She studied her a moment, “Or we could move you to ICU. There will be a nurse with you the whole time, or the main bay. It will be quite busy.”

Kane, AMO

That was a strangely tough decision. She remembered the panicked reaction to Royal even possibly suggesting she might have to be somewhere on her own. Surely she’d be able to sleep, right? “How about for tonight we try the ICU, and if I am able to get rest and more at ease there, I stay a couple more days and then try Recovery? Otherwise tomorrow I got to Recovery and actually get sleep. I mean, realistically I can even walk myself to a washroom, so I’m going to be reliant on folks for some stuff anyway, right?”

~Corinne Dalton

Kane shrugged. “The optics for the back story may be off, and if we put you in ICU we will have to get Walker involved sooner than we want. How about we just put you on a biobed on the ward for a day or so? Lots of traffic, lights, you will never be alone and will be constantly monitored.” He thought for a minute and then said “That might actually work better. I mean, Security is gonna have to interview you… and us.” He looked at Myqian. “Think you can smooth that avenue with the CoS? She is probably gonna be super pissed we brought an unknown onboard without her knowledge.’

Kane, R&D

Alexis wasn’t sure that Walker would even bat an eye at this point. She and Solomon got involved in so many ‘off the record’ things and other projects for the ship, that she wasn’t sure he would even notice or want to ask. “The main bay is just as good and much busier. You won’t be isolated. I don’t see any medical reason you need to be admitted to ICU.”

Kane, AMO

Cori nodded. “Okay, main bay it is.” She rubbed her hands together, marvelling at the sensation and the way she could feel her body processing it. “Besides, as annoying as having people interrupt your sleep could be, I don’t really remember what sleeping was like, so it’s a new experience altogether for me. Which is weird and kind of awesome,” she said, her scientist mind flexing again for their first time in quite awhile. As SARAH she had never really had to think about things. She just accessed and had answers, or could computer it without having to really work through anything.

~Corinne Dalton

“You will probably sleep a lot these first few days.” Kane said as he slid off the table he was sitting on. “REM sleep will allow your subconscious to be fully integrated into the positronic matrix. Once that has fully happened, I would expect some of those memories you are missing to come back. Maybe not, but some. So let’s go get you settled.”

Kane, R&D

“Dreams. Another thing I’m not used to. I think I used to be a rather vivid dreamer, but I’m not sure if that’s still true. I guess we’ll see.”

Cori was about to simply slide off the bed, but remembering earlier, she gave a half smirk. “I suppose this is where I be a good patient and let people do things for me, right?” she said.

Alexis stepped out the door and came back with a chair. “Frigga, down.” The pup carefully moved off Dalton’s lap and then hopped to the floor and went and sat out of the way by the door. “Alright, let’s get you up. Go easy, if you don’t think you can move to the chair on your own, we’ll lift you.”

Kane, AMO

She nodded and Dalton braced her hands on the bed and slowly let her body slide down. Her feet touched the floor and Cori wiggled her toes, absorbing the strange sensation her feet generated. She went to go move but felt a bit unsteady and reached her arm out. “Yeah, this is as far as I am going to get.”

Alexis put her arm under and around Dalton and then slowly turned her and helped her sit in the chair. “It will come back quickly the more you do. Physical therapy will help with that.”

Kane, AMO

“Remind me what we’re going to tell the rest of the medical staff here so I don’t mess that up?” Cori said softly as they moved her into the main bay.

~Corinne Dalton

Kane thought a minute and said “We’ll say you have Conbrellik Flu. It’s not contagious or deadly; but it will explain any spasms or mobility issues you have for a bit.” He looked at Alexis. “What do you think? We can say she caught it off a produce hauler.”

Kane, R&D

“That works. If anyone asks about the Quarantine Bay, it is a simple matter of confirming diagnosis. It is very similar to Kelvacian Fever which is highly contagious.” She turned the chair, “Let’s go.”

Lieutenant Commander Alexis Kane
Assistant Chief Medical Officer USS Ogawa

“Confirmed non-contagious illness, got it,” Cori said with some amusement.

A couple minutes later, they had moved her to a biobed in the main bay and people were milling about. Without any warning, Cori yawned and blinked her eyes. “Wow, where did that come from?” she said as she carefully laid back. “Maybe a nap would be a good idea.” It was like a wall of fatigue had just slammed into her.

~Corinne Dalton

Kane looked at the biobed readings and said “Blood sugar is dropping a bit and metabolic rate is spiking..” He walked away and came back with a soft, clear tube with some kind of green substance in it. “Here. Nutrient suspension. It’ll get you some energy, but you’ll probably want to sleep for a while. Green ones are lime flavored. They’re the best. Or yellow. NEVER eat the blue ones. Taste like feet dipped in ass… not even close to blueberry.” and he handed her the tube.

Kane, R&D

She grimaced. “Thanks for the warning,” she said as she took the tube of green… whatever it was. But it was good for her and lime was a great flavour. She sucked on the stuff and it was a bit like pudding. “Hey, not bad,” she said after she swallowed. Cori was definitely starting to feel more tired, but it wasn’t quite like how fatigue had felt before. Or could she even truly recall? Maybe that was just a ll a part of the process of having a real body again. Everything was new.

~Corinne Dalton

“You’ll want to sleep, and then eat again when you wake up. Now that your body is recovering from Conbrellik Flu, it will burn through your reserves.” Was that the cause, no, but for the benefit of Dalton’s cover story. And her new body would burn through her reserves since it had none to begin with. Her caloric requirements were likely to be higher at first as her body learned how it worked. It would also be the required fuel for the positronic brain to process all the new and unknown input it was processing.

Lt. Cmdr. Alexis Kane, Assistant Chief Medical Officer

“Just like a baby,” Cori said with a smirk before sucking on the tube. She looked around the medical bay and was trying hard to reconcile everything that happened but she was just honestly overwhelmed. It was like a dream… except she didn’t really remember what dreaming was like.

She looked at the two Kanes and there was immense gratitude in her eyes, which had begun to tear for real this time. These tears could actually fall and hit something. “No matter what happens, just know that I’m really grateful.”

~Corinne Dalton

“We accept payment in gold-pressed latinum and gift certificates for ‘Cry Baby Ink’ tattoo parlor on Oed V.” the heavily tattooed Kane said and then he hopped off the table edge and said “Go to sleep. Oh, Dream journal. Keep one. The shrink will want to know. Trust me… massive shifts in one’s reality are my specialty.” He added with a kind of sarcastic chuckle. He looked at Alexis and said “I’m gonna go do some records doctoring and make sure the cover story is solid. See you at home.” He kissed her cheek, a startlingly gentle gesture from him considering his personality, and he walked out of rhe room with a wave. “See ya, Dalton.” and he disappeared from view.
