Dira studied him as she swirled the remaining liquid in her glass. “I don’t disagree that she has a long journey. But it’s just that, a journey. She’s experienced a great deal of trauma, but she knows and recognizes it. And yes, for the first while, Cori will be adjusting to her body and living again, as she should. But…” Should she say anything? Was it even her place? This was the hard part when it came to her abilities. That line could be so delicate sometimes, and as she had proven even here n the Ogawa, it was a hard one to tread and she often got it wrong. Dira shook her head and drank more heavily from her glass.

“Nope. You don’t get off the hook that easily.” Sinclair said and leaned back and took a drink. “Spill it. Secrets have a way of biting one in the ass, and that is the last thing you need right now.” and he chuckled.
Royal
Dira inhaled, her lungs expanding to fill her chest and she let it out slowly. “Sometimes when you go through really difficult things you need to have something lovely to look forward to. And I think in this case it matters even more because those feelings are reciprocal, Royal. She didn’t have to tell me, either. It was apparent anytime you came up,” Dira said, reaching up and tapping her head.
~Dira
Royal looked at her for a moment and then said simply. “Huh.” and he sat back in deep thought. “Well, then… that certainly casts a different perspective on all of this.” and he smiled at Dira. “Not that you made this any less complicated for me, now.” and he chuckled and shook his head. He took a breath and slowly exhaled. “She was at my thesis defense, you know. When I got my PhD. Not ‘there’ there… but present. I don’t think I have ever thanked her properly for that. Maybe I owe her a dinner or something.” and he grinned like a school boy. “And now she can actually eat.” and he laughed.
Royal
She could feel how elated this knowledge made him and that told her everything else she needed to know. “I’m not saying rush into anything, but you have the experience and knowledge to know how to help navigate her unusual situation. But you also don’t have to avoid anything and be open to what could happen. You never know,” she said with a grin before sipping from her glass again.
~Dira
“I’m sorry. Did I miss the Matchmaking course in Command school? Seems like that would have been more popular.” Royal said with a smile.
Royal
Dira laughed but her expression immediately shifted to one more thoughtful and knowing. “I don’t know what will happen with Zoi and I, but I can honestly say I didn’t expect to find love again, and certainly not like this, after so long.” She inhaled deeply. “Royal, I watched my fiancee die in the same room as me while she did her duty as a security officer and protected someone from danger. There’s a part of me that never quite got over that, for a few different reasons. But we all know life is short, and here you’ve been handed a pathway you didn’t expect to be open to you. So sue me if I can’t help but want some sort of happiness for others, in whatever form it takes,” she said, her dark eyes alight.
~Dira
Royal laughed, shook his head, and took a drink. “Fair enough. And I’ll think about it. It has been…” and he shook his head and smiled ruefully, “… a while since I was ‘involved’ with anyone.”
Royal
There was this thread of joy that she could almost tangibly see that was woven through Royal. “Well, I know what that feels like all too well. There hadn’t ben anyone serious at all since Paige died, and then Zoi appeared in my life. Just… go mindfully and be honest about where you and your feelings are at. Not just with her, but more importantly with yourself. And yes, someone has recently been reminding me that introspection is an important thing for us command folks. It doesn’t apply to just captains, you know.”
~Dira
Royal grinned at her. “Apply? No. Most applicable? More than likely.” and he chuckled. “But yeah… life is short. And nothing ventured, nothing gained… right?” He took a drink and then said “I’ll think about it. But if it goes sideways, I’m blaming you.” with a smile.
Royal
Dira shrugged. “I’ve been blamed for worse, trust me. At least this time it’s not mutiny,” she said with a tiny glimmer in her eye and her joke actually surprised her. She eyed the small amount of liquor in her glass with a high degree os suspicion.
Capt. Dira Myqian, Commanding Officer
Sinclair downed the last of his drink and set the glass aside. “So now it is your turn. How are you feeling about the whole Dalton situation? It is happening on your ship, after all. And if it ever got out what the Kane’s did…” and he took a deep breath and shook his head.
Sinclair, XO
Her fingers tapped the side of her glass, now nearly empty but not quite. “I was very clear with the Kanes when they called me from the shuttle that I would not put the whole ship at risk for one person, but I also wasn’t going to let someone suffer needlessly. This crew is strong and I know that is push came to shive, they’d do right by Dalton and stand up for her. I’m… loathe to deal with Intelligence but I’ll do what I need to protect my crew. That includes her now. Whether she does stay in Starfleet or not, she’s on my crew manifest and my responsibility. She’s had enough people ignore her. I’m not going to. We all deserve to have a life where we feel empowered to make decisions for ourselves. Cori is no different. And anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot and likely to enjoy crossing paths with me.”
