Dalton rubbed her hands together. “Ohhh, it smells so good,” she said, taking a deep inhale. “I doubt I could eat all this anyway, so I’m totally willing to share,” she said with a gleam in her vibrant eyes. She scooped a bit of the mashed potatoes and gravy and took a tentative bite, her facial expressions shifting quickly from uncertainty, to curiosity to delight and then to thoughtfulness. “It’s tastes good, but food feels strange. You would think that I’d just slip right back into it, but it’s a bizarre sensory experience if you think about it. And I haven’t had to chew anything yet.”

“It’s been over a decade since you’ve had to, and if some of your memories have been compromised, this particular sensation could be a part of it. But look at the bright side, there is a galaxy full of food for you to explore again. You never know what you’ll like now,” Dira said with a smile, still assessing Dalton from her stool. While they were not in a formal evaluation setting, she almost didn’t need one. She would have a private conversation with Corinne later, but for the moment she was building a basic profile of the woman as she was today in this moment. And while yes there were things to be dealt with, she felt optimistic about Corinne’s future.

Kane watched the scan data and saw the positronic connections fire, even form new connections. “Hey Alexis, check this out.” and he pointed. There, on the map of Dalton’s brain, could be seen an overall glow as the matrix of her consciousness began to expand to take up more and more of the space afforded by the positronic framework. It was as if her subconscious had been hesitant to ‘move in’, but when the food hit her tongue it decided it was safe. Additionally, the readings that indicated neural activity began to fall far further into the region of Dalton’s previous neurological scans… almost mirroring them.

Alexis walked over and stared at the screen. She watched as the image flashed and blinked as things lit up and settled. She looked at Solomon with a huge grin. They’d done it. Not only had they transferred a person, it was permanent. The brain and body were Dalton’s now. There would be no risk of ‘rejection’. “The more sensory experiences she has, the more she will recall and more connections will become active.”
She turned to look back at Myqian. “When she is done earing we can let her get up and move around. Then we can move her to a recovery room.” She looked at Dalton, “you ate going to be fine.”

Dira nodded, rising from her stool. “Okay, well, you’re in good hands, Corinne. I’ll come check on you once you’ve settled into Recovery.”
Giving the Kanes a nod, she moved for the exit. “Just another day on the Ogawa…” she mused as she left.
Captain Myqian, CO
Dalton snorted at the Captain’s quip, wondering if this ship would be as ‘interesting’ as the Saracen.
What the Kanes would also note in the readings was just how much her positronic brain had maintained in terms of long-term memory. It was more than just Corinne’s memories, but she had been a sentient library fro all intents and purposes and much of that still resided in her brain. It meant that her brain showed the depth of knowledge and memory of someone who had live much, much longer. By a lot. It wasn’t perfect, of course, and as as she settled into her new life her brain would probably shed information it deemed extraneous, but she would likely keep a lot of it.
Continuing to eat, the softer foods were easier, but the chicken wasn’t all that bad as far as a texture to get used to. She ate maybe a third before she stopped. “I’m not sure if I’m full or not but I feel like I need to stop now. I think. It’s a guess, really.”

Alexis nodded and took the tray to the recycler. “Then listen to that intuition. You most likely will need food often, in smaller amounts as your stomach adjusts to having food in it.” She scanned over her digestive system and nodded, “This is good. It’s handling the consistency and molecular structure well and the acids and muscles are working as they should.” Then Dr Alexis had her sit on the side of the bed, practicing her balance, then shook her head and glanced at Kane. “I think we’ll use a chair to move her to recovery.”
“I feel like a brand new foal who hasn’t realized legs were things you actually can stand on.” And Cori hadn’t even put her feet down on anything yet. She was okay being moved around.
“I’ll have the physical therapist come and do an evaluation with you later today after you are settled in the recovery room,” she told Dalton.
Kane, AMO
Kane nodded and said “Don’t push it. Listen to the PT and do exactly what they say. But if you start to… I dunno… feel weird or out of sorts or something… call us. No one else. We’ll see what’s going on and get it sorted.”

Corinne nodded as she chewed on her lower lip for a moment. “I suppose this would be a good time to confess that I have a fear of small, completely dark places thanks to the Douwd. Royal had just helped me get quarters of my own on the Saracen and we had only started properly decorating. I hadn’t even stayed in them when I disappeared so I haven’t actually slept anywhere in all these last years, not even in a pretend setting.”
