“Oh, okay,” Cori said, still feeling uneasy but at least it was better than being in a void or stuck in a little room. Her holographic body mimicked taking a deep breath and she began to explore the setting. It wasn’t the same as her family farm on Ajilon, but it didn’t need to be. Bare feet touched the grass, and she slowly meandered over the rolling field. The warmth of the sun on her face also cast a sweet scent of growing things into the air, current of wind flowing from the ocean and carrying the scent of salt to her nose.

Yes, she would do the diagnostic and see if she could identify the missing pieces, but right now there was something more important for her to do. With a impish grin that no one else could see, Cori set off at a run across the field that ran down and back over the hill. Yes, she was alone here and that would not do for long, but she was free! Yes she was trapped somewhere in a place with some man who clearly saw her as a potential threat and yet was trying to help her, but it was in this moment that she realized that she was out of the Saracen’s computer. She didn’t know what that meant fully yet, but her worry of being lost and forgotten when all the people had moved on the ship itself ended up as some museum piece with her included, well… that future had shifted.

And so Cori ran and dance and leapt over the field, the sun illuminating her raven hair, and felt a small moment of something that might actually be joy.

“Hey. I need to talk with you. Come see me when you can.” Kane’s voice said throughout the constructed reality.

She was lying in the grass, closed lids red beneath the sun. “Okay…” she said.

A second later, she appeared in the lab again and Cori just peered at him curiously.

Kane was sitting at the now cleared workbench and was staring at her. It was… disconcerting… to most. Finally, after at least a minute of silence, he said “Ok. SO you are a real person. And a Star Fleet officer. So why hasn’t anyone done anything to help you?” he asked pointedly and with no small edge of animosity… although whether or not that animosity was directed at her was unknown.
