Sinclair had thought for some time just how to go about this. He knew he had to be delicate, yet firm. And he had to do it in such a way as to not alienate his new Commanding Officer or his first term as Executive Officer would be short and not sweet at all. So it was with slight trepidation that he looked around and said “Ok, everyone. Clear the deck, please. Everyone out.” He had picked a time when the activity was very slow so as not to interfere with operations. He tapped his commbadge and said =/\= XO to Captain Myqian. Please come to the Shuttlebay One as soon as possible. Sinclair out. =/\=

Sinclair, XO

Sitting at her desk in her ready room, Dira filled her lungs with air and slowly expelled it. She hadn’t heard anything was wrong down there, but then again that was why people usually called the captain: to inform them of things. With a sigh, she tapped her commbadge. =/\=I’m on my way. Myqian out.=/\=

Through the Command Centre, she was poised as she often was and stepped into the turbolift. “Deck 9B,” she called out.

This side of the divide was weird for her. No less difficult but well, it wasn’t the same corridor she had made her escape from and through. But just like it was when Maria had taken her this way, Dira had to quash the unease. Some days were better, others made her want to vomit. But nary a person walking past her could tell by her expression. The therapist’s mask was so very useful sometimes.

As the doors opened, her dark eyes sought out Sinclair and she had to will herself to cross the threshold. It was but the briefest moment. “What’s up?” she said, moving towards her first officer.

Captain Myqian, CO

Sinclair looked at her for a long moment and then said “Walk me through it. Now. Everything that happened.” and he held up a finger and shook his head. “No protest. No argument. You are the Captain, and you are avoiding an entire deck of your own ship. That can’t continue, Dira. So let’s work through this. Like I said when I came on board… I’m always going to be honest with you. And this is honestly going to be a problem if we don’t address it now.”

Sinclair, XO

Her dark eyes gave away nothing as she stared at him, though she folded her arms across her chest. “Walk you through what? There’s a whole report. In fact, there is a compilation of them and testimonies. All the details are there. In fact, you should skim everything to make sure it’s in order before I send it to the JAG.”

Captain Myqian, CO

Sinclair matched her stare and folded arms. “Right now, I could give two rat’s asses about the reports. This isn’t about testimonies or chronologies or signatures on official transcripts. It’s about you… and getting you into the right headspace so you can effectively command this ship. Because you know as well as I do… it won’t go away. And it will get worse if you don’t work through it. And if that happens, we are all in dire straits.” He took a breath and said “Now then… walk me through it. All the way.”

Sinclair, XO

There had been no time. She had barely gotten out of Sickbay and back on duty when Taylor had been reassigned and she herself had been promoted. Of course she was still working through it all. He wasn’t wrong about her needing to be an effective commander but as far as she was concerned she had been doing an admirable job all things considered.

Dira sighed and dropped her arms, swinging them out and gesturing to the shuttlebay. “Well, in that case, we’re starting in the wrong spot. The nonsense in here was in the middle of it all. A plot, a distraction. A good one, I’ll grant him that. But if you want to start from the beginning we have to start on the A side of the deck in the arboretum.” She hadn’t moved though and it was like her boots were glued to the deck. There were specific places she had not set foot in and the arboretum was one of them.

Captain Myqian, CO

Sinclair looked at her a moment and then said “Then if that is where it started, I suggest we start walking.” He gestured to the doorway and said “After you.”

Sinclair, XO

The worst part was that they had to walk past where everything else happened in order to get to the beginning. But Dira felt she could compartmentalize for the moment at least to get them where they needed to go. She spun on the ball of her foot and headed out of the shuttlebay.

The shuttlebay was a straight shot along 9B to the access point between the primary and secondary hulls and the arboretum was all the way at the other end of the deck on A. They crossed the threshold into A and Dira kept going, moving at a purposeful pace past where everything went down. Soon enough they stood at the arboretum entrance and the door slid open at their presence. Dira stepped inside, took two more steps, and then stopped.

“I was doing my usual rounds, walking the ship as I always do. But lately it had been a bit unnerving. I kept getting pings on my senses, like someone was there, but there never was. Over the course of a couple weeks it got worse and I finally broke down in the Psychiatrist’s office. Which got complicated but long story short, we decided that my mind needed a break, I needed a break. So I agreed to a neurosuppressant and light duty. No bridge work, but I could work in my office and have meetings as needed. So I walked into the arboretum looking for a bit of respite I guess.” She gestured to the main path that went around the green space. “I did the loop and then was heading for the exit, but then someone left ahead of me. I saw just the profile of them and it was that of someone who shouldn’t be here. So I followed them out, knowing it was likely just someone that looked like him and we could laugh it off.”

Captain Myqian, CO

“So do the loop. Walk it with me.” Sinclair said. “But now… remember the moments. Tell me what you were feeling, not just the thoughts in your head. Talk me through who and what Dira was in those moments.”

Sinclair, XO
