She had thought about leaning against a wall, but there really wasn’t space for it. “Nice to see you too,” she deadpanned before she slid the PADD across the desk.
“Two things. One, I need you to confirm that this is the official report you want to submit with our testimony packet back to the JAG office ahead of a certain hearing that will happen soon, and two, just wondering if you had a particular death wish that day and if it’s something I should be worried about,”she said with a surprising lack of emotion given the situation. Kane and the others that had responded to the explosion that injured four security officers hadn’t known at the time they entered that Dira was missing and that that was why there had been people searching the shuttles. And of course Kane had kicked everyone else out and took all the risk himself. Dira was still trying to decide how she felt about that all, given that up until a few days ago she had never read the vivid details of the after-action report. As the Captain submitting everything officially on behalf of her ship she had. Yes, she could have asked Sinclair to, but it seemed wrong. She had been there and as far as she was concerned, it had been her mess to clean up.

Kane eyed her through the cascade of hair covering half his face for several long moments before he reached up and pulled the hair back to the back of his head. “Move those.” he said and stuck his chin towards the grenades. “I haven’t armed them yet, so they’re mostly stable.” he said flatly. He picked up the PaDD and began to read.
She eyed the glittery grenades and shook her head. “Should I even ask?” she said as she carefully lifted them and set them on what amounted to a tiny clear space on the desk. At least if there was an accident, it was an equal opportunity situation.
A few minutes later he set the PaDD down across the desk near Myqian and said “Yeah, that about sums it up. You can add that the device planted in the shuttles was designed to cause damage and injury, but not to destroy the ship. Terrorist tactic, by definition and practice.”
Kane, R&D
Myqian gave a stoic nod and added in a quick line to the relevant section. She looked up at Kane, her dark eyes intense for a moment. “Okay, that solves number one. Now about number two. Any continuing death wishes I should know about? I’m also pretty sure your wife would object intensely, but given your actions, I do have to ask. Captain’s job and all that.”
Captain Myqian, CO
“Why would you think I have a death wish?” he asked pointedly, but not with malice.
Kane
Myqian leaned forward, mindful of the objects on the desk. “Well, not to put too fine a point on it, and yes I already know you’re going to roll your eyes and call bullshit on the regulations, but you did eject everyone else from the scene. You also didn’t bother calling in anyone else that might have the expertise to help you with the rigged shuttles. So, why go solo?”
Captain Myqian, CO
Kane pulled his feet off the desk and leaned forward himself, almost mirroring Dira. “First off, I ejected everyone to minimize casualties if the fu<k!ng bomb went off. Seems like a pretty reasonable response. Second, if the regulations dictated that I do otherwise; then the regulations are wrong, not me. And last? You tell me right now who the f÷<k else on this ship has the same level of expertise I do with shit like that I will happily put ‘em on speed dial for the next time some psychopath decides to butcher a bunch people with a multi-compound, self-mixing, non-standard detonation device.” and he leaned back and put his feet up. “And by the way, my wife was there and had zero issue with what I did… so you can take that little tid-bit and shove it.” His eyes glittered with either malice or humor… with Kane it was almost impossible to tell. “That answer your question, Doc? Or do we need to go back to those useless mandatory mental health checks again?” he asked flippantly.
Kane, R&D
Dira was quiet for several moments as she pieced together what exactly she wanted to say, but it wasn’t as clear as she hoped it would be. The part of her that had studied people’s behaviour for years understood what was going on for her here but it was also hard to separate herself out of the equation. Was there a lingering sense of guilt about what all went down in the shuttlebay? Yes. She even knew it wasn’t logical or reasonable, but this was an emotional reaction, not a intellectual one. “I know you did what you had to do,” she said softly. “But just know that I like having you around Solomon Kane. I might be one the minority, but for what it’s worth, if something had happened to you in there, I’m not sure I would have forgiven myself for it.” Her ship, her crew. It was no less true when she had been XO as it was now as CO.
